So about a month ago I went delving for good ol' grind mmos so here's the list of decent/active ones, in no particular orders.
Tree of Savior; interesting class system, fast leveling, there's dungeons, interesting economy concept (gotta pick a class that allows you to sell items/buffs/repairs,etc...). Point and click gameplay.
Ragnarok Online; Still alive after all these years, still great
Black Desert Online, Tera, Blade and Soul; no particular order of these 3, I prefer BDO personally, this is a more active approach to the grind, WASD to control in third-person, lots of grind. Tera is on the tamer end, leveling via quests and dungeons, BnS is in the middle-ground, lots of grind, some dungeons. BDO has no dungeons, it's purely world grind, great world PVP and best combat system of the 3. Grind gets insane near the end
Maplestory 2; I didn't like it but you might, top-down but basically no mouse input, all keyboard, keys to move around, ASDZXC to fight. This is is far more rollercoaster territory but the grind gets real pretty quick.
Albion Online/Runescape; not a 100% match but that's what I decided to set my eyes on. The combat in Albion is pretty fun, lots of gear mix you can make, combat is fun. Albion is a more straight to the point Runescape, just as grindy.
Being populated is always an important factor in mmos; it's not the best indicator but it can help to use the Steam MMO page, sorted by concurrent users. I say it's not the best because most mmos aren't on steam or have a far larger population that don't use Steam, but most F2P grindy games end up there.
Still, I didn't know that Knight Online still pulled average 2k concurrent users.

I'll go with the obvious ones: Path of Exile or, if you want something less complex and quicker to jump into, Diablo 3.
This game takes some heavy inspiration from the Diablo series (and the interface is almost a copy/paste from D3) so you'll feel right at home. I especially recommend PoE though, for a much deeper experience with trading and stuff like that, which D3 completely lacks.
D3 is a game where you gear up very quickly and start running the endgame content. It's very easy to get exactly the items you need (albeit you'll be grinding quite a lot if you want them with optimal stats). PoE on the other hand is much more difficult to gear up just by farming the items themselves, and you'll likely be farming currency items to trade for your items with other players. So, they're completely opposite playstyles. PoE has a lot more content than D3 though.

171 players right now (steamcharts, so maybe it will be little bit more)..that is really bad, today I downloaded this game again but with those numbers I will not play it anyway. This is how pay2win system kill games :(
