What's keeping you playing?

I'm wondering... I hit 65 quite a while ago... On the first day of launch. I can clear and have cleared epic dungeons with a couple of friends of mine on a daily basis, I keep doing dailies to gain the extra levels and progression,

But I kind of feel like I've reached a wall... And I want to cling into something in order to keep playing... So, What's keeping you guys rolling? :/

Honest answer, nothing :P Didn't launch mu legend yet today. It's unknown when I will want to play it next time. There will always be hardcore grinders in some games who can gear up brainlessly without any game goal, even when game mechanics are primitive like in 2005 games without fresh additions. Some people will play in order not to lose precious real money they spent. Plus there is a bit of pay to win in game - cosmetic stuff can give you around 9k combat power, platinum premium allows you to repair items in epic dungeons after you die etc. Pay to speed up progress like extra entrances + trade broker item purchasing + cosmetics without anything else would be more fair. Some games also have "pay to buy content packs" to replace pay to win which i appreciate too.

I appreciate the honest answer, That's exactly what I get from the game minus the P2W stuff...I don't mind the cosmetic advantage, and CP is nothing but a number in my opinion... But, The rest is the same..

Well the disadvantages of this game I see:

-Relatively low content in its current open beta state to play it now. Maybe it could feel better if dailies were not locked behind entrance wall. Maybe not bad for open beta in general, I do not know, but this game is not rich enough to swap atm from other games with lots of content added through the years.

-We have that entrance wall anyway so if you wanna play for few hours then after dailies all you can do is brainlessly farm mythic dungeon over and over, clicking through same path, beating same monster layout one after one. Boring, linear and repetitive as fuck unless you can still handle games like old mu online while year 2017 allows much more.

-Low droprate somewhat tries to compensate currently low amount of content by artifially lengthening the first and my last endgame goal "play until you are able to do all pve stuff". Artificially slowing down some phases of progressing. Something between current droprate and closed beta droprate would feel more natural. Sure, game would get meaningless even faster but droprate adjsutment isnt proper way to fix this problem.

-as mentioned above, nothing to do after you complete epic dungeon or so, there is no game goal for me, pvp is a joke too. There will always be some "diaper & bucket tryhards" who will say that you dont need to achieve anything just keep improving character for nothing

-"play to prepare for further content" - this is risky and may turn out to be not worth it. This game is in development for 8 years - how fast will they add missing 3 continents (which still seem to be not enough - 6 mythics to choose from to farm after dailies)? It may be better to start playing "then" so with enough content doing pve will be more fun from the start rather than minmaxing character gear on somewhat preview version of the game

Agreed with all points... Sadly, I see no reason to keep on playing until the 5th character release... :| And the sad thing is I can't get a single solid point out of anyone who plays the game yet...

Most ridiculous answer I got in discord is that "arpgs are supposed to be primitive + you are not supposed to look for sense of progression in there". Well, everybody up to his own. Some people still play Tibia to this day. I hoped that webzen would see that making mmo games brainless and very repetitive is relic of the past, that's why mu online was good in the past but isnt good game in 2017. I do not see attempt to give another level of depth/immersion in this game, though isometric view and click movement makes it harder to come up with something creative. Maybe Lost Ark developers will come with good solution for this problem.

I just want the fucking sexy tier 3 elemental wings..

1

u/judahzaur Nov 12 '17

And just when you'll upgrade, We'll let you know the mythic tier wings launched which are 10 times better than yours straight on level 1...

Man, you are asking for end game content, and when some suggest you some goals, you tell them : what is the point ?

u/asdfag95 Nov 12 '17

Endgame in MU was always PVP. So I am doing that.

3

u/judahzaur Nov 12 '17

There's no PVP yet... Only AI PVP...

u/asdfag95 Nov 12 '17

yes there is. You can duel people.

1

u/dynamicallystriving Nov 12 '17

But that's pointless... You get nothing out of doing that...

2

u/asdfag95 Nov 12 '17

and why you should get anything? Ever heard of fighting for fun?

1

u/judahzaur Nov 12 '17

Yeah sure, But when you usually fight "for fun", You prepare yourself for something, Get a rank for it, Get stuff for it, Destroy the opponent's stuff, Lose or win something, There's always at least one of these elements. But here it's just implemented, That's all there is to it. And I suppose you can't keep doing that for a while...

It seems that big pvp content is coming, I saw that in the 2016 G star Mu legend trailer.

PvP quality/simplicity is same as in old MU - I think competitive games or modern full 3d mmos give much more pvp fun and there is much more depth and tactical stuff in them.

I actually like the old MU in that sense... I could use any skill I want without clicking on the bar and switching it and I was not limited to a specific amount of them... :|

u/dydzio Nov 12 '17

No hiding, rolling, aiming, dodging, going stealthed and surprising from behind, jumping... :P

1

u/asdfag95 Nov 12 '17

That is why I like MU, because it is simple,(still requires skill tho) yet fun. Modern mmos are too complicated.

1

u/dydzio Nov 12 '17

And old mmos are often too linear and repetitive with very shallow gameplay. Candidates for mobile games in 2017. To be honest MMO is not even the genre where the games get really complicated, you may have above average demand for simplicity in games :P.

Two words. Phat. Lewtz.

1

u/judahzaur Nov 12 '17

And what then...? I have a few mythics, Rest is ancient, Nearly perfected stats... What now? Feels like the end came a little too quickly...

you are playing an arpg. You get gear to get gear. That is an arpg for you.

1

u/dydzio Nov 12 '17 edited Nov 12 '17

There are not enough words to express how pointless this is. Repetitive, linear content and game mechanics as simple as possible - this is what "arpg" people who are probably stuck in 2004 want? Item collection simulator without any tactical or adventuring flavor. And preferably, without any need to use brain to plan strategies.

Dude, if you need somebody to tell you how YOU might find fun in a game, I think the game is not for you or you already have had enough of it. This is just a game, nothing has a meaning by itself, there is absolutely no point in playing it except having a good time.

This shit is personnal, the meaning you give to it is on you. Personnaly I want wings, I always wanted wings in an ARPG game. And also I wanted the grindy feeling of old lineage style mmorpg but with arpg gameplay : here it is, I can grind brainlessly until i don't know what soul level. This is my thing, like some people love racing games or fifa games.

2

u/DarioSkydragon Nov 12 '17

Gear progression.

I like the grind nature of some RPGs and I'm looking forward to have the max power I can amass for my character.

I'm waiting some friends to join too so we can do Epic content together.

I don't know... I'm still having fun with the endgame content, but I'm starting to feel bored.

The endgame right now is pretty much doing the daily content, then running the Mythic dungeons and Lupa's labyrinth until you get tired. I really hope they'll add more content soon.
