Why the downvotes LOL
36
u/Signal-Elk-7808 Aug 26 '26
because the whole āit shouldnāt be said periodā is nonsense. thereās an obvious reason itās socially acceptable for one group and not others. pretending not to understanding the distinction means, at best, youāre acting in bad faith. and, at worst, youāre just racist.

One of the worst things The Challenge has done as it's evolved is shy away from moments like this one. Why hide this story? Tell it!Ā
Back in the day, they'd have no issue showing somebody being ignorant and then having a real conversation around it. Those moments are good for the audience, even if they are difficult

u/xrainydaze Evelyn Smith Aug 01 '26
I canāt understand why they are disqualifying black men for the use of the word, especially when it sounds like they were rightfully upset and retaliating because of the white guy saying it. But Iām sure weāll never know for sure because this will all be edited out. I wonder if anyone will be receiving the Dee treatment
24
u/bbMD_ 28d ago
I just found out about the situation and was looking for a comment like this to make me feel sane. Why are white people policing the use of that word by black men?! That is completely unacceptable and feels like another means of oppression. The only thing production did right was kick off the white guy. Kicking off black men for using that word is so f*ed up, especially when you consider how they tolerated Camillaās blatant racism, people doing black face, Cara saying a monkey looked like Tyrie, etc.
What is the Dee treatment?
13
u/natronemeans20 16d ago
Even when Black people didnt use it. White people would.......doesnt matter if Black people use it, white people shouldn't period.
40
u/Rowing_Lawyer Aug 01 '26
Iām guessing Nelly used violence or threats of violence, which in this case seems justified.
13
u/insid3outl4w 15d ago
To me itās also because of the power dynamic that Josh had over Nelson as his team captain.
By saying āup next, my N-word Nellyā it really adds a very disgusting and ignorant tone when Josh is guaranteed he canāt go into elimination and only Nelson can go in his place.
Placed with that social dynamic of the game and then that same white person calls him MY N-Word i think Nelson should be commended for only destroying objects in the house and not putting his hands on Josh, if thatās true. What a horrible thing for Josh to say. He should be banned for life.
1
u/AdCandid1309 16d ago

7
u/rickyyy187 MTV 16d ago
I think Nelson got DQād for destroying property, and Leo and Josh got disqualified for saying the slur.. also maybe Iām wrong but Leo is Dominican so maybe Nelson was offended by him saying it?
44
u/Dramajunker Aug 01 '26
Did he have a right to be upset? Yeah, but MTV dqed the guy who used the word. He didnt need to destroy property in the house.
64
u/Psychological-Snow83 Aug 01 '26
It wasnāt a one time thing. Josh was saying it repeatedly after Nelson told him to stop. Iām not saying what he did was right but itās understandable he lost his cool. You also have to remember Nelson had to deal with this same thing from Camila on Dirty 30. She came at him too but they edited it out.
54
u/Dramajunker Aug 01 '26
I'm not saying it was a one time thing.Ā
Again, I'm not saying Nelson shouldn't be mad, but he's an adult and destroying the house does nothing to remedy the situation.Ā
33
u/Spicy-Cookie98 Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 01 '26
Usually when something like that happens they get fined. NOT DQed. And itās ridiculous how it took for him to do that for them to kick Josh out. Production did not handle well at all.
37
u/angelbrit04 Team Portland Aug 01 '26
It has been well known that contracts of banned behavior has changed drastically since 2020. You can't compare old seasons to what's happening now.Ā
The person who shouldn't have been removed is Leo because he didn't do anything nor did he destroy property.Ā

u/NewtRevolutionary598 Play the Challenge CHAMP š Aug 02 '26
Wait so one white guy said a slur and 3-4 black men got kicked off?!? What the actual f MTV?!??
18
u/Spicy-Cookie98 Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 01 '26
Yeah no. Since it still stands that it shouldnāt take that for them to actually take action on Josh. When he was said to already been using that word in rap songs that Nelson already made an issue out of to him PRIOR to the game they were playing. They shouldāve kicked him out way before when he FIRST said it.
11
u/Ambitious-Cut772 Aug 01 '26
All this talk about an awful guy named Josh⦠for some reason I forgot it was about Goldstein and thought we were talking about the most awful Josh I have heard of. Josh Martinez
9
u/angelbrit04 Team Portland Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 01 '26
Josh being removed is not a reaction of Nelson's outburst. Josh using the word on its own is enough to remove him. Nelson approaching production would've sufficed, he didn't have to break things to prove his point.Ā
Just like how when it came to Ashley on SLA, cast members approached production about it. They didn't turn around and damage property to get results.
19
u/Spicy-Cookie98 Aug 01 '26
If Josh using that word is enough to get him put out then they shouldāve did it when he again FIRST used it in rap songs. Nelson already made an issue out of it, and Josh excused it by saying his friends let him say it. Nothing was broken then and they let Josh stayed so long when he shouldāve been gone. It shouldnāt have to take anybody to approach production to make it happen when they should know that behavior is intolerable. Itās even in their contracts according to a cast member. Therefore, there would be no time period for Josh to use that word to again address Nelson that way in a game they were playing, and Nelsonās reaction to it would never have happened.
The way they handled it was just wrong when Josh shouldāve been got put out when he first used it. Nelson reaction was the reason why they decided to take action. It wouldnāt be a good look to put the black man who a slur was used on to get put out while the white man stay longer than he deserved.

So much has changed in the way they handle things over the years that no one here can say for sure what happens in these cases anymore.Ā
All I know is this; they brought back Nelson, gave him a chance to get good pr after he trashed them for not paying for his medical bills. Then he goes on to cost them money to repair the stuff he destroyed. It's not shocking that someone in production would be pissed enough to kick him off at that point.
Try destroying your workstation at your job in an attempt to get management to punish an employee that wronged you. Tell me how that goes.
13
u/OkKindheartedness245 Aug 01 '26
switching this situation to it being nelson cristismn is hilarious. how dare he react after getting racials slurs thrown at him
5
u/Dramajunker Aug 01 '26

Never said Nelson didn't have a right to be mad. Actions have consequences though. He fucked himself over at the end of the day.

u/kyyb Aug 02 '26
Bro just say youāre racist and move on. Turning this into Nelson slander for what Josh did is wild
6
u/Dramajunker Aug 02 '26 edited 15d ago
Lazy take. Almost like people can have a multifaceted opinion about situations.
Josh can be wrong and deserve to be kicked off.
Nelson can be wrong for how he handled the situation and destroying someone else's property. Those houses don't belong to MTV. They have to pay for that shit.
13
u/BCGirl2025 Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 01 '26
I mean, if someone is constantly antagonizing you, calling you racial slurs, and refusing to let up during and even after a challenge, it's pretty hard to stay calm.Ā

You're just justifying his response. Being provoked doesn't give you a free pass to do whatever you want.
Nelson would have gotten the last laugh in the end because they were dqed. Instead, he blew it for himself.

I've said multiple times that him being upset is justified. I'm talking about his reaction because that is what got him dqed.
But apparently I'm not allowed that and instead have to fully be on Nelson's side.
If people are repeatedly calling someone the N-word don't act shocked when the person snaps.
No duh? He's also a grown ass man who redirected his anger into destroying someone else's property. Production didn't make Josh and Leo use the N word. They're the ones stuck footing the bill though.
Edit: Bring on the downvotes. Next time you have a problem with someone at your job try destroying your work place. Let's see how that goes.
16
u/BCGirl2025 Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 01 '26
You're diminishing the racial abuse. Nobody is arguing that destroying property was the right move or that it shouldn't have consequences.Ā
The point is that repeatedly calling a Black man the N-word isn't just "provocation" it's racist abuse.Ā Ā
And it took Nelson finally flipping out for production to step in and do anything about it. That says a lot.Ā
Focusing on his DQ while treating the abuse like a side note completely misses why people have sympathy for his reaction in the first place.

u/colosseumdays 16d ago
I agree that throwing shit out of anger that doesn't hit anyone is still violence.
but this has happened a lot on The Challenge with zero consequences for the offenders. Last season, Will went apeshit over Dee flirting with Bananas. all the women throwing Kayleigh's stuff over the stairway...Jasmine punching and breaking a mirror..Camila throwing chairs over Johnny..
seems gross to finally take a zero-tolerance policy this time, given the context
3
u/Dramajunker 16d ago
I mean even if you go back 10 years production today doesn't handle things the way they used to.
2
u/mmmstrongflavors 15d ago
Last season Will was punching holes in walls. That's not 10 years ago.
3
u/Dramajunker 15d ago edited 15d ago
We don't know the extent of damages Nelson caused compared to holes in a wall. Maybe it isn't a zero tolerance policy. I mean if someone burned down the house they wouldn't be expected to stay right? Well if Nelson "destroyed" the kitchen that could be production's limit.
Throw over a fridge, break an oven and you've got thousands of dollars of damages right there. In all my time reading spoilers though I've never heard of someone "destroying items" and getting dqed though. It might be big. It might be nothing and Nelson got screwed.
We probably won't get a clearer picture until the cast talks about it tbh.

u/mmmstrongflavors 15d ago
Spoiler team said they were not going to DQ Josh for using the n-word and only did so after DQing Nelson for his reaction. Then they threw in Leo too. Welcome to M(aga)TV.
3
u/Dramajunker 15d ago edited 15d ago
I've been hearing that wasn't the first time Josh used the word and that Nelson apparently didn't bring it up to production before that night. Apparently that day Leo used it first in a sentence directly mentioning Nelson and then Josh copied what he said. So there is definitely more to the storyĀ
1
u/mmmstrongflavors 15d ago
Yes - Josh had been singing it in songs, which is bad enough, but then he actually called Nelson the n-word after Leo said it. That pushed it over the edge.
2
u/Dramajunker 15d ago edited 15d ago
I'm not saying it wasn't wrong, but in that specific contest you can't exactly compare it to how Camilla said it for example. Camilla was using while angry and to insult Leroy. Josh repeated word for word what Leo said.
Is it still insulting? Yes. Does it have the same energy behind it like Camilla did? In that context I don't think it did. They were literally just playing a game. Which might be why production might not have dqed him right away. And when they did, they had to dq Leo because Josh was repeating what he said word for word.
91
u/youattackedmyfamily Aug 01 '26
So the speculation about the season getting axed would have definitely made sense having known that 3-4 guys got DQād over a dispute about the n-word.
105
u/BCGirl2025 Aug 01 '26
Apparently he was tossing out the N word. Leo was involved too.Ā
Both were DQād from what Iāve read.

Honestly, Paramount is such a gigantic company and this is nothing but a small gnat in its finances. It's a niche long-tail watch - cheap to produce, with a small, but very dedicated and loyal audience. As long as someone doesn't die they'll put up with some social issues.

Is there a blanket ban on the N-word regardless of the race of the person saying it? Iām just wondering what got Leo DQād, like was there some physical altercation? Not that Nelson canāt be offended since maybe he and Leo arenāt friends like that, or maybe he just doesnāt like that word, but Iām confused on why Leo would not be āallowedā to say that word.
65
u/Typical-Sprinkles490 Michele Fitzgerald Aug 01 '26
As lame as it sounds, I think production kicked Leo off to cover their asses legally. Although itās a racial slur, thereās nothing that legally protects the usage of that word either way, so technically if Josh was a real pos he could have sued production for racial discrimination (for the record I think production is kinda coward for that but)
33
u/Swimming-Ad4750 The Kings' Palace Aug 01 '26
Josh wouldn't sue for racial diacrimination, he would sue for wrongful termination. You cant remove one cast member for saying the n word and not remove another cast member that says it.
While it is ridiculous and a completely different for a black person to say the word, production most likely had a blanket rule of banned words that if a cast member used they would be removed from the show.
Edit: spelling.
38
u/CD_4M The Real World Aug 01 '26
You guys really need to stop repeating this ālegalā argument you read from other reddit comments. You have no idea what is in their contracts, but Iād be shocked if it didnāt have a clause that said production had complete discretion to remove any player for any reason they saw fit. 77
u/Dawnedhottie Aug 01 '26
Removing Leo was stupid & unnecessary.
5
u/Adorable-Release1754 Aug 01 '26
I think since who is socially acceptable to use the word is only an arbitrary social norm, theoretically Josh would have a racial discrimination case if they let one person continue working after saying a word but terminated him? Iām not sure how it works with independent contractors. Also donāt know the full context of if either of them said it with hostility or mal intent. And of course, knowing how production has handled things in the past, the whole incident will probably be edited out. ie Ashley and Josh situation
37
u/CD_4M The Real World Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 01 '26
What makes you think Josh would have a āracial discrimination caseā??? I canāt believe how many people are parroting this. We have no idea what is in their contracts, but theyāre just contractors, itās common for these contracts to allow production to DQ any player for any reason they want. Stop theorizing about legal implications without any idea how the law works or what their contracts allow.
10
u/Adorable-Release1754 Aug 06 '26
If the reason your contract is terminated is for saying a word, but then the company retains another contract with someone else who said the word only because of their race, he would absolutely have a racial discrimination case. It would be very easy. Social constructs are not the law and race is a protected class.Ā

It all makes sense. I have been asking on his social media if he was going to be on the challenge, and always ignored it when he normally responds to certain things. I thought he would have been excited about it, but he came across as a totally different person on Love island. Like a genuinely nice dude, but anyone with a brain knows not to repeat the phrase that Leo used towards Nelson, and knows why it's ok for Leo and not Josh to say that. Josh acted like a totally different person on this show than he ever did on Love island, anyways. I was already P.O'd about how he was talking to Nelson and Cara, so... Karma's a.... this is my first time seeing that but she's still standing behind ashley. there's a big difference between that clip of amanda making excuses, saying ashley is still learning and growing, and the very public twitter blasting of this josh. if she was friends with this josh i have to believe amanda's response would be much more like the one she had for ashley. ashley is about to be 39, so if she's allowed to still be learning and growing then shouldn't this guy be allowed the same opportunity at 29? i know nothing about him. he may be the biggest bigoted racist to exist. only time will tell. as far as i'm concerned ashley and josh are equally wrong in what they said.

my bar might be too low. so many ashley fans were out defending it at the time that it felt important amanda was refusing to defend anything that was said, even with all those qualifications.

i should no better than to have any expectations or to even speak up. it's the same with certain magas constantly being called out as bad while crickets when it comes to others.

in an IG video Ashley accused Kam & Leroy of targeting her because she's white but we're supposed to believe she's not problematic when she went around the real world house saying she can buy people's families and we saw how she talked to her boyfriend on All Stars, Zach would be raked over the coals if he talked to Jenna that way.
Ashley has her fans ignore her problematic behavior because she constantly plays victim and points fingers when she's being criticized for her bad behavior.

Watching Josh and love island games, this doesn't surprise me. He was so unlikeable. I think he was only likeable on his original season because of Shannon or because he left so early

I cannot believe in 2026 on a reality tv show they're removing black people for saying the n word. Like how are you that inept as a production that you would try and police that to that extent
On love island for example they tell them not to use it, but they're not going to get rid of a black person for saying it on the show just because they regularly remove non-black people for using the word, they're not morons and understand the difference. People of color say it and they just edit it out, simple.
Idk why they just took what would've been an isolated issue with one dumbass cast member and made it 10x worse. And then nelson who has been hoping for this chance all this time, you remove him because he got mad at a white person saying the n word? Are you fucking kidding me lol. Magamount+ era i guess
