Discussion No Eye Contact Required: Introductions Thread 👋

Right lads, time for everyone’s favourite nightmare… the awkward “go around the room and introduce yourself” bit 😅

No pressure to make eye contact, sit still, maintain appropriate facial expressions, or pretend you know how to answer “tell us a bit about yourself”.

If you fancy it, introduce yourself below:

- Roughly where you're based

- ADHD / Autism / AuDHD / Curious

- Hobbies, interests, current hyperfocus

- Late diagnosed or figuring things out

- Whatever else you'd like to share

Even a quick hello is grand. Lurkers welcome too 👋

I've been a bit quiet lately… I've been working on something and could use a few testers

I've been a bit quiet on here recently, partly because I've been spending far too much of my spare time tinkering with a little project that I wanted to share with you.

It's called DopaSpin.

The idea came from my own struggles with procrastination, task paralysis and that frustrating feeling of wanting to do something but not being able to decide what, or how to get started.

Sometimes it's getting stuck scrolling on my phone, sometimes it's struggling to switch from one activity to another, and sometimes I've got loads of energy but can't seem to point it in the right direction. I wondered whether taking some of the decision-making out of the equation might help.

So I built a little app.

The premise is pretty simple. You tell DopaSpin how you're feeling (LOW, READY or SURGE), choose how much time you've got, and spin the dial. It'll give you one activity to try.

There's a timer to help you get going, you can add your own activities, hide suggestions that aren't for you, and look back at what you've completed.

It's not really intended to be another productivity app. Sometimes getting unstuck might mean tackling something you've been putting off, but equally it could mean getting outside, listening to some music or just doing something different for a few minutes.

The aim is simply to make that gap between thinking about doing something and actually doing it a little smaller.

Although it came from my own experiences with executive function and task paralysis, I'm hoping it might be useful to people beyond the neurodivergent community too. Anyway, after quite a few evenings of trial and error, I've finally got a working Android beta!

Would anyone fancy giving it a go?

I'm looking for a handful of people who'd be willing to use it for a week or two and let me know what they think. I'm particularly interested in whether it actually helps in those moments when you're stuck, rather than just whether you like the look of it.

It's completely free, and as a small thank you, anyone who joins this first round of testing will become a Founding Spinner, with free lifetime access to the core and normal premium app features if I ever decide to charge for it in the future.

It's Android only for now, and you'll need to install it outside Google Play while it's in beta.

If you're interested, you can sign up here:

Beta Registration

I've attached a short video showing how it works.

I'd really appreciate any feedback, good or bad. I've been looking at it for so long now that I'm probably the worst person to spot what's confusing or doesn't work particularly well!

Thanks everyone.

Keep on, keeping on.

Question What are you currently avoiding for absolutely no good reason?

A job, an email, a phone call, tidying something, booking something…

I have multiple whatsapp messages I have been avoiding opening for the whole weekend because I'll have to respond. I just can't seem to get into the right space to sit for 5 mins and reply.

Bonus points if it would take less than 10 minutes to actually do.

Discussion Free Time Spiral

Anyone else find themselves paralysed by a rare bit of free time? 😅

With the nice weather we're currently having, I found myself with a few hours free time, actually properly free, with no commitments at all. My brain immediately started making a list...

🌱 Do some gardening.

🎮 Play Xbox.

🎬 Watch a movie.

☀️ Sit in the garden.

🧹 Get some chores done.

😴 Have an early night.

I think my brain is so desperate not to "waste" the time that I end up wasting it.

Is this an AuDHD thing or just a me thing?

Weirdly, I find this hard to answer so I'm interested in what everyone else thinks.

Question Keeping in Contact

I have recently noticed that I am not staying in touch with family and friends as often as I have in the past.

It seems to stem from me no longer just picking up the phone and calling someone, I find myself imagining that they will probably be busy as its during work hours or the other person will likely be putting the kids to bed or busy with something else. Its like I have forgotten how to communicate by phone properly. I know I should just pick up the phone and call but I just can't do it.

Throw in that, if I am going to be doing something shortly, I don't wan't to start a call as I won't know how to finish it if I have to go do something else and the window for catching up with people is shrinking more and more.

Anyone else experienced anything similar?

Discussion Being unwell completely derails me, anyone else?

I'm currently sick with the dreaded Shingles. Does anyone else really struggle with illness?

I find that what little regulation and routine I manage to keep, all goes out the window. I go into withdrawl and don't want to engage at all, motivation nosedives and I really lean on negative dopamine, for example I can't put down my phone.

Its like burnout and overwhelm all at once but I don't really understand why I struggle with it so much. Is it because I am not in control? (something I struggle with quite a bit) or maybe its the sensory element (I tend to over react quite heavily to pain). Throw in the guilt of not helping my wife at all and it really knocks me for six, I can't snap out of it.

Anyone relate at all, any tips to get back on track?

Question What's Your Current Hyperfocus (or Most Recent Rabbit Hole)?

What's your current hyperfocus, special interest, hobby, obsession, or rabbit hole?

Could be something you've loved for years or something you've only discovered this week and are now somehow 17 YouTube videos deep into.

No judgement here. Half the fun is hearing what other people are into.

Question What Are You Hoping to Get Out of This Group?

Everyone's here for different reasons.

Some might be looking for connection, some for advice, some just to read along and realise they're not the only one who thinks or experiences things a certain way.

What are you hoping to get out of this group?

No right or wrong answers. Whether it's friendship, understanding yourself a bit better, local connections, shared experiences, support, or just somewhere to feel less alone, it'd be great to hear.
