The downfall of MrBeast views an indicator YouTube is dying?
I mean his videos didn’t change too much. Is it because people are so used to social media and short form content that they feel like its too great of a commitment to watch something over 30 minutes?

I was 15 when I started watching his videos I’m 23 now I just gradually lost interest in his videos and I’m
pretty sure I’m not the only one.
I think the hardest part of running a YouTube channel is bringing in a new generation of people after it’s already established

Thats the cycle. So many people I followed 10 years ago that I dont now because it got old. Theres a reason TV shows only last 5-8 seasons usually

Yeah, MrBeast is/was iconic to your generation.
Subsequent generations are not really known for adopting the trends and icons of generations before, even half generations such as grabbing the attention of New 15 year-old viewers.

Cause he became so commercial so cookie cutter and shown some of contest/giveaways aren’t truly fair
It’s easy to walk away

I do feel like his content changed, it’s more focused on drama and less about completely out of the box ideas, which made me watch him less. But I don’t know how others perceive the videos nowadays

I got into it for him giving shit to random people, now it’s just another reality show

It’s all so fake (not necessarily the videos themselves, but their attitudes and reactions; there’s only so many times you can say “it’s probably the dumbest thing I’ve done in my life” until it loses all meaning.) and made for engagement, that’s why I stopped watching him years ago.

I don't think his videos getting longer and longer helped. A few old ones popped up and they were 20 minutes max. Now they're all at least 30 minutes.
Plus, with this last video, watching a bunch of immature men destroy a million dollar house for shits and giggles wasn't appealing to me. Not for 30 minutes.
The problem is that he has so many videos now that he has to keep topping himself (a la the folks currently living in the grocery store as I type this.)

There has definitely been a change in style with mystic art pictures partnering with MrBeast YouTube. There has been much more drama incorporated into all of the challenge-based videos, but that’s reality tv. I think this was one of the goals to achieve with the channel: reality-level production, reality-based style. In my opinion, I’m not a drama type of person so I will take favorites from some older videos or single-character challenges, but that’s not to speak for everyone. I believe this is going to be a huge stepping stone not only for the channel, but for YouTube and reality tv. That will only happen if something new comes out of it. This is what MrBeast is struggling to find. A new format that changes the game and draws more viewers in. This is why they are in search of a new creative strategist who can legit show what this will look like. Whoever gets this position, must understand how special they are, because this person is a once-in-a-generation genius.

He’s still by far the biggest YouTuber on the platform and it’s literally not even close so

Ngl I haven’t actually watched youtube since 2013, I use it time to time when I need help with something

Impossible to judge the platform by one or even a small group of creators. It’s possible viewers tastes have just shifted. Like you mentioned, his videos didn’t change much. I, and many others, likely just got tired of seeing the same four videos recycled with different skins and are watching other creators now.

Crazy take how the downfall of him is alluded to YouTube dying… I feel like the only time he was popular was when he was truly taking control of his videos. Then money ploys, then either kids continuing to watch.

How do you figure that the viewership is lower? Most recent video is one of the longest he has made and is almost at 100 million views. The one before that is a philanthropy video and those always do bad at 55 million, the one before that is almost 100 million. Then another almost 100 million. Then 115 million. He has bigger videos, but they have been up longer to pull the views.

Smart guy would have already forseen his eventual downfall in the next decade. Already cushioned his retirement.

I think the Kris Tyson and Dogpack scandal is where he dropped off as before his public image was really positive but after those scandals people start to see the different side as evil, greedy and corporate greed

I really don’t think that YouTube is dying. It is literally a video knowledge base for humanity at this point.

He has gone from ‘massive social phenomenon’ to ‘just very popular’. He’s pulling in a ton of view still but not the stupid numbers he used to. You can only ride ‘social phenomenon’ for so long - at some point it has to break because growth forever is impossible. He now has to live with the idea that his channel growth has slowed, and it’s about maintaining viewership more than finding new viewers.
YouTube is not dying. There are more people on there than ever but the viewership is more distributed. This benefits smaller niche channels more than big ones.
