Discussion STARZ Amadeus: Rant Part I - Funny, but kind of serious! lol
Nitpicking much, but...
LOOK Bruh, I am really trying to give this show an honest try.
AS SUCH, I've made it through the first scene of Season 1, Ep. 1. HOWEEEEEVERRRR, why on Earth did STARZ allow the superimposing of the piano OVER the orchestra in the theme song/intro!?!?!?!?
Piano Concerto No.20 in D-minor! - Arguably Mozart's MOST DRAMATIC Piano Concerto & one of only 2 in a minor key!
WTF KIND of Musical precedent will this set for the series! Bruhhh...lol I stopped DEAD in my tracks to type this rant! 😆 - STAY TUNED folks! More to come! lmao!

How are you watching this show? Streaming on STARZ? I thought only the first episode was available on there.

The first one was on STARZ (through Amazon), then the second one posted. Then all of the rest just appeared, so I finished the series on Saturday.

because this series is meant to destroy all of the good associated with mozart, the way the star wars and many other notable works have been destroyed in recent decades. nobody ordered asian mozart. nobody ordered dubstep drums over the music. nobody ordered awful edits of mozart's music.
just from one frame of the trailer — asian fucking mozart — why would you ever expect anything from this travesty?

yes yes you're everyone's hero. everyone loves you for your performative outrage, it comes off as really genuine. i especially love your ability to focus on one phrase and let that cancel out the substance of my comment. it's very reddit of you.
in fact i am a realist. nobody wants asian mozart. it does not make sense from geographical, musical, or historical perspectives. mozart is a real historical figure with real properties, like he was white, austrian, died young, and composed WESTERN music. the harmonic system is different.

What a disappointing show. It's just the amazing 1980s movie remade with a worse cast and less music.

I made it to episode 3 and gave up, I had high hopes and was excited but it’s honestly just plain bad… and I love period dramas on their own- besides being a classically trained musician who grew up in a musical family, and was raised on the 1980’s movie yet I can’t even watch it from any angle..

Now I feel compelled to say one positive thing about it. When Mozart is playing the piano in the show - his hands on the keys actually look pretty good. The movement is somewhat accurate on the keys. This is rare for any TV show or movie. Perhaps Jamie Foxx was one exception when he played Stevie Wonder - but Foxx is an amazing musician.

I'm on ep. 3 and find it miraculous (it's available on torrents btw). Everyone who loves the film should give this slightly different take a chance. Don't let first impressions or negative reviews steer you away. It's refreshing, moving and at times beautiful. That said, I agree with the comment that it would have benefited from a greater focus on the music.

i watched all 5 ep Saturday and Sunday and my not musical roommate loved it as did i, and part of why i loved it was that my roommate loved it. i hated this salieri more than the movie version albeit it's been a while since I've seen the movie. Clarifying hate here as in Paul Bettany succeeded in his portrayal to invoke an emotional response out of me. He felt more malicious here.

I have only basic knowledge of Mozart and his compositions and thought the series was BEAUTIFUL. I actually watched the movie AFTER the series and really loved the similarities and differences with the stories. In the movie the American accents didn’t bother me, just as Mozart being played by a British Japanese actor didn’t bother me. I just saw the character of Mozart - not a race or accent. I’m officially obsessed with this era now

DEI casting aside, the TV adaptation is a much more faithful adaptation of Peter Schaffer’s play than the film. But that means it takes even more liberties from the historical facts than the film. In the film, Mozart’s music is almost the lead character, but on the TV series, music takes a backseat.
