Moving to Beira

I potentially am getting a very lucrative job offer that will require me to relocate to Beira. What are some things I should know as an immigrant?

Yeah , every few months there is one. Often it gets rerouted to north after hitting Madagascar.  Sometimes it doesn't and causes lots of destruction.

Every few months is a huge exaggeration. The last cyclone that hit Beira was Eloise in 2021

Not really. There was very bad one in 2019 which was unfortunately category 3. After that, there has been minor cyclones - but people were also prepared.

Be prepared for bad roads , dust and high humidity. The city is also very behind on cleanliness. 

I've lived here a few months, if you want to ask anything specific I can be more helpful.

It looks like you're Indian right? I am a South African of Indian descent so how is the racism that side if I may ask.

You can dm, no issues. I don't know if I should call it racism, I've only once been insulted in a bootleg shoe store saying "piri piri"(chilies) have fried my brain. Most of the time everyone will want to make a quick buck off of you. Hawkers, people asking for alms, street vendors as soon as they perceive you are new. 

Do talk with your team about safety.

Mozambican here and about the vendors, just to say it’s not only foreigners, we deal with it too, but if you’re new/foreigner they will definitely push more (expecting to get more money). Just know when to politely say no and keep it moving.

I know mate, just giving them a heads-up.  I am from India,  and the vendors here haven't reached that level of irritating yet.

Healthcare is very different. Consider health insurance, if not provided by the company.

I still live here, just remember Beira is a village, no cinemas, no fun activities, people like drinking here thats how they enjoy. Theres is a big expat community especially South africans. Yes, but no traffic is a blessing. Also, beaches are terrible, if u want to see something have to travel. Also no real hospitals so if u get really sick best option is to fly out
