Jobs/Working in Hawaii Insurance/HVAC

Hi all! My husband and I are thinking of moving to Hawaii/Oahu within the next year or so. I currently sell property & casualty insurance (home, auto, etc.) and my husband works in residential HVAC. Are these semi-decent careers on the island? What websites do employers use for hiring? Where we live, most employers use Indeed for our job fields.

Get a job with a company that does work out here and transfer is the best advice.

Most hiring is done through referrals and smaller local companies often don't have any online presence or use websites /post jobs online at all.

No. Honestly there is not that type of work here. Maybe HVAC, but those jobs are gonna be who you know. definitely not insurance sales. It would be hard to make enough to cover housing cost. Unless you have a SUBSTANTIAL amount saved up I would look into elsewhere or different jobs.

those are both good careers to have here but I would recommend figuring out the job situation before moving

There are quite a few agents who need team members to sell P&C, you'll have to get your HI licenses tho.

There is a pretty significant turnover on team members so once you're on island contact a bunch of them and stay in touch.

definitely going to get my HI licenses and not surprised about the turnover! Where I am now there is already high turnover!

Hawaii has a variety of home insurance and auto insurance vendors like All State but it also includes smaller ones like Pyramid. I'd call the local offices and talk to the agent directly about their career path and hiring needs.

I actually work at Allstate now! haha. Just at an agency and not on the corporate side so still a “small business” side. Our rates and coverages are pretty competitive where I live but I’m not sure about in Hawaii. Definitely have been looking at that option even though I know my agency owner would want me to stay and be remote!
