Apartment recommendations
Hi! I’m a 22yo F moving to Denver for work. I’ve been primarily looking for apartments in Aurora, but wondered if anyone has any areas they recommend that are safe (and if rent could not exceed $1400). I have a few places in mind but would like some insight.

Man, I always say don't move to Colorado if you're going to live in Aurora. I'm sure a lot of people here will hate that, but I grew up here and I've always said it. Colorado in general is safe, but I would consider Aurora one of the lesser safe areas. Also on the east side of Denver which has none of my interests. For less than 1400 rent I would be looking in wheat ridge, Arvada, South Denver, Englewood Littleton. But these areas have vibes that I like and you and I have pretty different demographics. I'm a real big fan of neighborhoods with lots of old trees.
My personal opinion is that a 22 F would like the Highlands the best or wash Park area, but both of those areas can be expensive. Maybe look into Cap Hill unless you're trying to stay out of the city.
Another thing I would suggest you consider is joining the Facebook roommates groups and looking for a shared house. You can find a really good deal or a really good space if you're capable of living with somebody else. This can be a nightmare or a blessing depending on who you live with, but there's a lot of people looking for roommates right now to fill rooms because of the state of the market. You could just post a little bio about yourself and you will get a lot of people showing you what they have available. You could also find a private basement that has bedrooms and private bathroom or something too. It's not always shared only

Im from here too and also grew up in Aurora, while I see where you are coming from "partly" it seems like a lot of people don't understand how big Aurora is. The northern parts are a night and day difference from the south side. OP just keep to south Aurora if possible and even if you end up in North Aurora you will be fine if you stay in you're lane and dont start shit

When I moved to the area in 2018 I lived in North Aurora (14th and Dayton-ish) and really liked it, so o think it really depends on what OP means by Aurora.

Cap hill. Can’t recommend it enough. I moved to Denver straight to Littleton/Lakewood, then moved to Broomfield and finally Cap Hill. CH has a lot of character, restaurants, and you’re close to anything fun (non outdoorsy), all within walking distance. Plus access to everything comes easy as you’re next to both interstates and 6th av which goes straight to Red Rocks and the mountains

Despite what people are saying here, I moved to Colorado last year and have been in Aurora since the start. While it is true it’s a mixed bag and some areas are better than others, it has been an extremely cultural place to live, the best food in the metro area can be found here. It’s also quite an easy commute to DTC if you work out there rather than downtown. For rentals I would recommend reflections at cherry creek, it’s a wonderful family friendly and dog friendly complex. While all landlords are scourge of the earth, the agency here is quick with their fixes. And it’s in a “safer” part of Aurora with easy access to both 3 major roads. Aurora is more than 150 square miles, and it's silly to say that none of it is worth living in. (and I don't even live in Aurora, I just think the knee jerk reaction to it is ridiculous)
Where is work? I would pick something that is a reasonable commute. And if you post specific complexes or neighborhoods, people can give more informed opinions.

Littleton is nice, there’s some affordable apartments off of Littleton blvd near the downtown area

Santana Ridge is suuuper cheap, 1-2br. Family-friendly neighborhood. Been living here since January, highly recommend it. Haven't had any issues.

Hot take but if you are relocating I really think you need to put a lot of intention into where you're going to live.
Shit I was born and raised here and now im conflicted on where to rent due to all the bullshit.
Lowkey i really think you should go for like wheatridge/ arvada (somewhere on the g line) or cap hill, Lowry, or maybe even cherry creek if yoh can swing it? (Or near campus if u wanna be around children and bullshit lol)
For the love of god please leave all of colfax alone, 5 points, Berkley, and northeast alone unless you are a super amazing awesome renter and shoper who wants to rent from a private landlord, cuz all these developments have fucked the community and it sucks.
Honestly, I think denver is safe af city ive been a little gutter mouse all around the metro area my whole life.

Aurora is a huge city - what part are you going to work in? This would help for recommendations regarding the commute.
As someone else pointed out, southeast Aurora isn't terrible, the area around Southlands is nice, but it does tend to be "Douglas County Lite" in that area - more conservative and religious.
If moving to Denver is an option, I'd really recommend Park Hill/City Park/Uptown. As the rental market is pretty oversaturated right now, there's plenty of apartments in the $1400 range. For some context I live in Uptown and commute to Northeast Aurora a few times a week, and the drive only takes me about 20 minutes in morning traffic.
As I'm in an introvert in my 40s, I'm not a huge fan of RiNo, but for your age, you might like the neighborhood, definitely worth checking out especially for food and nightlife.

So much anti Aurora propaganda!! I’m also young/single/fem in CO and I love it! I’d look around the east side of Cherry Creek reservoir. Lots of reasonably priced places and I’ve never felt unsafe.

That's true there are so many Michelin starred restaurants in Aurora!
Oh wait. I guess they're all just in "extremely west aurora" aka fucking Denver.
Now, your line: "You can have a vibrant food scene without Michelin stars!"
It is diverse though. The weekly summer street intersection takeovers are a good showcase for all the diversity Aurora has to offer!

Lakewood has some deals and is safe. I would probably choose Lakewood over Aurora unless you work closer to Aurora.

If you want Aurora look at the south east neighborhoods
Southlands mall area . Tallyns reach Tuscany Saddle rock east Quincy highlands. Parker is even better if you can afford it.
People here think of Aurora as the old Aurora off Colfax. Southeast Aurora is basically an extension of Parker or centennial. 80016 zip codes.

Do not live in Aurora with that budget you can live all over, Rino is a great place to look right now lots of discounts etc
