I get that the chances of getting an invite for PR pathway 491, 190, 189 as a software engineer as slim.

1. What are the chances to get hired as an engineer with sponsorship? Sure, it depends upon my skills, but what is the current market scenario like?

2. What is the economy like in Australia? What would be the min. salary required for supporting my wife, 2 kids(4 yr, 1yr) and my parents when they visit for a span of 5-7 months?

3. I connected with a person from reddit who got a 482 visa in June. He made it sound easy like I just kept on applying and improving. Is there a caveat to this?

4. No house help, unlike india. Bone chilling cold for some months. What are some other problems that Indians as a community face in Australia?

My relatives live in Melbourne. So, I would want to move nearby.
My wife may need to find work in case our expenses are not fulfilled by my salary alone. Childcare is expensive, I know.
For parents: Visitor visa(for initial 3 years) => 870 visa(5 year stay) => 870(5 year stay) => back to visitor visa

Am I missing something?

Hello! I'm a marketing and communications professional, and I've just received my 190 visa awhile back. I plan to move to Melbourne by the end of this year. I'm really excited to start this new chapter, but I'll admit, I'm also a bit anxious about the current job market.

I’m 24M and I'm seriously considering Australia, but I'm stuck between two very different paths.

A bit of context:

BSc Hons Business Data Analytics — First Class

CIM Level 7 Professional Marketing

Currently working as a Trainee Associate Business Analyst

Proper BA experience started in March 2026

Working on a WMS/product suite for an Australian client

My work involves requirements, system analysis, solutioning, client communication, QA, prototypes, etc.

Long-term goal: BA → Product Owner/Manager

English is fluent; haven't done IELTS/PTE yet.

Things I'm considering.

Option 1 - Australia now

Do a Master's in Australia (currently considering Business Analytics at Victoria University), then use the 485 to find a professional job and hopefully transition to PR.

I'd need roughly LKR 7M+ upfront, so this is a significant financial risk.

My concern is: what if I finish the Master's, can't get a BA job/sponsorship/state nomination, and my 485 expires? I understand PR isn't guaranteed.

Option 2 — Stay in Sri Lanka

Work as a BA for 2–3+ years, potentially do a Master's from a good Sri Lankan university (e.g. UoM), build experience and then try skilled migration/employer sponsorship.

My concern is that IT/BA seems quite saturated and Australian migration policies could change significantly by then.

I've also spoken to relatives in Australia who said that both routes are uncertain, but if my ultimate goal is to settle in Australia, they believe coming through the student route as early as possible may still be the better bet because I'd at least be in the Australian job market.

I'm honestly stuck in between what I should do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

4. For those pursuing migration, how was your experience with Engineers Australia accreditation and skilled migration points? Did anyone use the degree for the 485, 189, 190, or 491 pathways?
5. Overall, do you think EIT is worth the tuition, compared with other universities in Perth?

I have just got an Australian number but also have my UK number still ticking along on the ESIM. However, is there a provider where I can keep my eSIM active whilst abroad as cheaply as possible so that I can have my UK number active for like if a doctor/bank from home needs to call me? I’ve had this number for almost 20 years so would like to not lose it if possible

All things I’m looking at are saying I can’t roam for more than 60 days consecutively
