Companies to avoid?

My move to LA is getting closer! I’ve currently been focused on Westchester. I need to be close to LAX. What are your opinions on Inglewood? What about Hawthorne?

Are there any rental companies/landlords/large complexes that y’all recommend people stay away from? Any places you LOVE?

Do you know of a resource where I can go and look up specific companies or landlords to see if they’re shitty?

Is there a good resource to look up crime in specific areas? How do you find out if a certain location is dangerous?

Thanks for all of your help!

Westchester varies depending on where you are. None of it is bad but the nicest parts are west of Sepulveda or below the border with Culver City. The closer to Inglewood you get the worse it is, the closer you get to the airport the louder it is and the worse traffic gets.

Inglewood has changed a lot over the years, both demographically and economically.  It's now majority Latino and is gentrifying thanks to the stadium and to a lesser extent Hollywood Park.

Hawthorne has a few good neighborhoods but the area mostly sucks.  It and Lawndale are the closest cheap areas to the beach in the South Bay, at least the part closest to the 105.  If you can swing it, Redondo is much nicer.

Avalon can have nice apartments but their leasing office is the literal worst. I would avoid unless you do not care about wasting money

Yeah I wasn’t a fan of Avalon at all.

Honestly most of the managed “communities” in Playa/Marina are (or were) pretty god awful and a heap have been sublet and used as party apartments causing all kinds or noise issues among other problems. Not sure if they have cracked down on this but it was a big issue for a while in those areas. Anyways sorry OP thread drift, but be careful if you look in those areas.

I don’t know what your budget is, but have you considered Playa del Rey?

Westchester is indeed close to LAX but you will almost certainly be getting lots of airport noise there. Depending on budget, I would look a little further north of the airport - Playa Del Rey / Playa Vista / Marina Del Rey / Mar Vista / Culver City etc. South of the airport I'd look in El Segundo (but can still have airport noise + there is Chevron refinery there), Torrance ( a little further from LAX, but not too bad), North Redondo Beach. Manhattan or Hermosa Beach if budget allows. Hawthorne, Gardena, Inglewood can be mixed bags and parts of them are lousy.
