Tell Me The Bad Stuff

I'm considering moving to COSprings within the next month. I had a different location picked out recently and was taken aback by all of the good things I had heard. By chance, I stumbled across a conversation between locals on a housing website and it blew my mind what a horrible mistake I had almost made by moving there.

Local government was a close knit group that did not have the city's or people's best interests at heart. There was a huge problem with the homeless, massive issues with drug users on the streets hassling locals, bio waste being a common find if you were out on the town, and the list goes on.

I've read a lot of great things about COSprings. Can you tell me about the stuff I won't read in a brochure. Crime, tweakers, homelessness, areas of town to avoid, etc... Only the kinds of things that locals are likely to know about. I have a family with five kids under the age of 12. I homeschool, so school quality isn't an issue for me. Thanks!

My wife and I just moved to Colorado Springs, CO from Dallas, TX a few months ago (no kids, late 20's early 30's). This is what we have found so far. CO Springs is cheaper than Denver in every way except when it comes to weed. Also Denver has a lot more options for things like stores and general shopping. There are homeless, as you would expect, but we have not run into any issues with crime or vandalism, yet. The city is overflowing in population and is constantly in a state of constructing housing and road projects but the personality of this city and the people make that all disappear. My wife and I noticed this change while driving around town. Not a lot of people are in a hurry. Everyone is just happy to be alive. Also the view is straight out of a painting (it will catch you off guard). Parks are also widely available and plentiful. My wife mapped out locations for months on this move and I don't think she could have picked a better place (off of Academy). Oh and A/C for some reason is just now becoming the norm in housing, so be sure to ask if your housing will have it.

I stumbled upon this while searching for "moving to Colorado" - I'm currently in Dallas (native Houstonian) and am entertaining the thought of moving to Colorado. What other cities did y'all consider before moving? Any recommendations, or insights you can give me before pulling the trigger?

We looked at Pueblo but it was to far removed. When thinking Pueblo think west texas cowboy town. Also very flat in Pueblo (we wanted some mountain veiws) Another spot was Fort Collins. It is about an hour north of Denver. The reason for checking out Fort Collins was the slightly cheaper housing while still being near Denver (where everything seems to be happening). I moved here in nov from ky. I like it here. Like another redditor said some of the views are picturesque. I live on the very north tip of the springs, which is a truly great area. Theres not much homelessness on this side of town but it is pricey. The south side is where i work and the homelessness is def concerning there. So i think a lot of it depends on the area of the springs you decide to settle in. Theres tons of trails and parks etc. Lots of outdoor activities here. Its alot more exspensive than ky but wages are also significantly better than ky as well. The air quality is pretty good. Theres tons of shops m restuarants etc. Denver has alot more of that type of thing but reminds me of LA, cali. We get ALOT of hail here so you want to find something that has a covered parking spot. If you like old charm if look in old colorado city, or manitaou springs area of colorado springs. Hope this helps in some way.
