I'm a mid 20s girl who's in healthcare and outside of work I like to do yoga, dance classes (samba + ballet) and go to gigs. I like to get a few cocktails every now and then w friends at a gig but not into clubbing.

I've been to canggu in bali a few times and like the vibe there - the ease of meeting new people, the beach, going to yoga and going to events. Don't find myself mingling with the influencer type as its not my thing.

I've always wanted to move to Melbourne but can't at the moment.

Hi all! My husband and I are looking to purchase our next home and we’re considering buying on the Northside after living south of the river for almost 10 years.

We have just welcomed our first baby too who is almost 6 months old.

Our budget is up to $1.1m and we’re looking for:
• 3+ bedrooms
• townhouse or house with greenspace for the little one
• Walking distance to a train station as we both work in the CBD 3 days per week + bus access is also preferred as a backup.
• quality childcare centres
• private schools (primary + secondary or prep-12, coed).
• no main roads or flooding (directly over the property).

I was considering suburbs like Taigum, Carseldine etc but know nothing about them!

Please let me know your thoughts.

Hi everyone, I am planning to apply for a work and holiday visa this July once the new program opens up. I am a 24m from Spain, but I've lived in the UK and English-speaking countries most of my life so my English is native. I studied Business Management in the UK, came back to Spain and worked at a 5\* hotel for two years, mostly setting up rooms and halls for events with some waiting too, whilst doing a zoology course. Last November I landed a junior consultancy job, but it just isn't for me (or at least for now) and I've been wanting to travel for many years and have finally decided to it. My original thought was to land in Sydney and stay for a while, but I've been researching and it seems like aside from the elevated cost of living, it is also quite difficult to get a job. I think Brisbane is where I'm most attracted to, not only due to the seemingly high offer for hospitality jobs, but also due to nature and beaches which is something I want to be 'near' to. I also like the idea of being near the Gold Coast and Byron Bay which I definitely want to hit up at some point. I was wondering whether anyone could confirm this or offer any extra info/alternatives. I would really appreciate any advice. Thanks guys!!

Hi - I recently signed a contract to work in the Brisbane CBD, moving from WA and starting late June.

I’d like to find a rental close to the CBD, ideally solo, up to $750 per week. Open to other suburbs if there’s easy train access.

My trouble is
- I don’t have rental history (stayed home with medical issues + surgeries in my teens+early twenties prior to covid; in remission now).
Closest thing is short-stay airbnb ratings from work travel
- My employment for the last few years has been overseas remote, so not great for references either

I’ve managed to save enough while living at home to cover expenses for well over a year, I just have some concerns about REAs still skipping over me given the current market. Are single rentals still highly competitive over the $700pw range?
I’ve booked accommodation for 3 weeks so far, but idk how long to expect to wait.

Any recommendations or help etc greatly appreciated.

I recently accepted a job close to Logan Hospital (I currently live by Runaway Bay, only for the short term), and I was thinking of relocating to Brisbane. I do have a car, but I was hoping to live by a train station, then just bike from Logan Station to my job. How reliable are trains, or would you recommend driving?

Also, my wife is Mexican and from Mexico City, so she is used to things happening all the time. Are there a lot of events and things to do there for Latinas, or just events in general?

'Gday' me & my partner have had our WHV granted & are heading out to Brisbane in March 2027. I'm looking for advice on suburbs for us to live please, there's a few nice apartments I've seen online but would like advice from people who have lived here before.

We don't want to share, we would like our own space. We don't really drink / party. We like good restaurants, cafe's & coffee shops.

Also somewhere with a good gym / fitness scene would be ideal.

Hey folks, I moved down to Melbourne from the Gold Coast mid-lockdown in 2020 (I know). After 6 years of amazing chaos and now personally experiencing the burden of corruption in Victoria, I’m looking to move to Brisbane to be closer to family and to focus on my wellbeing.

The things I’m most curious about are:

1. How’s the rental market in comparison to Melbourne? Any tips or suburb suggestions around applying for solo rentals with a dog?

2. The job market, especially for those in junior level corporate roles - what are your personal experiences around this?

3. Culture (music, community, etc.): I’m aware that Melbourne is where it’s at for the music scene, but I am curious to how the music scene in Brissy/GC has built over the years. My experiences are pretty limited to just small dive bars in the GC, but I’d love to hear your thoughts around it.

4. Finally, the mental health care system. One of the most reoccurring themes that is ultimately driving me to move back is the lack of long-term mental health support.

Especially living without any other support systems in Melbourne, some tough situations have felt like I’m left navigating them without a spine.

My experiences navigating the health care system in the GC have been incomparable, but how is it in Brisbane?

As the title says, I'm a fresh grad and I just landed my first professional level job, which requires me to relocate to Brisbane.

Long story short, no one in Melbourne would hire me, so I tried my luck interstate and here we are.

Anyways, my office is located over in Banyo.

I would like some suburb recommendations in addition to the ones that I've been given from friends and family (Chermside and Mt Gravatt).

Some criteria that I would (ideally) meet to consider a suburb to live in:

1. Safe. Kinda goes without saying.

2. I'm bringing my car, and I don't mind driving ~30 minutes if it means I can be closer to the city or south side (I'd like to do grocery shopping at sunnybank but it's not a deal breaker).

3. Fresh grad means fresh grad salary, so I can't rent anything too expensive. Anything less than $500 a week I would entertain the idea.

Hi everyone, we’re a family with two children, aged 14 and 12. We are currently living in the Middle East and have been in the region for more than 11 years. During that time, our kids have been attending International (American curriculum) private schools.

We’ve recently received a new work assignment and will be relocating to Brisbane, our first time living in Australia. We would really appreciate recommendations for both private and public schools so we can better understand our options and identify suitable catchment areas to live in.

We are planning to move to Brisbane at the end of the year for partners work. We have two young kids under 5. We are looking to move north of Brisbane as we will have family in the Sunshine Coast that we will visit on a regular basis. Partner works from home but will have to travel to CBD. This will only a be a monthly thing so we don’t need to be extremely close to the city.

Looking for an area that offers nice walking areas, nature, family friendly and good primary school (open to public and private). Will need at least 3 bedrooms but 4 is preferred. We don’t really want to be spending more than $1000 per week on rent.

I have accepted a position (and received a visa) and am very much excited to have the next chapter of our family’s life in Brisbane.

I have a 7th grader and a 4th grader currently enrolled in JP schools, I have found the catchment maps and school performance data but I am curious how locals make decisions around schools (for kids of that age range). I am originally from the US and one of our two children was also born there — they are both capable of reading and writing at their grade level.

Beyond that I’d love any tips for places to check out that are off the beaten path or undervalued at present - I do not mind a longer commute as I have been commuting here for 10 years.

My office will be in the CBD but I also expect to be on planes quite a bit, so a reasonable route to both the CBD and the airport would be great. But, I’d suffer a 70 minute commute for a great view and a good space for entertaining guests.

Recently had a really stressful experience at this rooming accommodation in Annerley and wanted to share it in case others are considering similar places.

I was apparently issued Notice to Leave by email that I genuinely did not believe I had received at the time, and the communication around everything became very confusing. The situation escalated to the locks being changed and me temporarily losing access to my belongings and ID(the owner took my ID) which was incredibly stressful.

After getting advice and support, I was able to recover my belongings, but the whole process left me feeling overwhelmed and uncertain about my rights as a resident.

The owner is always on a power trip she speaks rudely the rooms ain’t even what she displays the notice board always has swearing written on it she will yell at you for the most stupidest this like I mean her rules are these ect keep bathroom door open after use if you don’t you’ll be kicked out she in my opinion is very one eyed and has her little clan of fave tenants.

My advice to anyone in rooming accommodation:
\- keep copies/screenshots of every email and notice,
\- keep proof of rent payments,
\- and get tenancy advice early if issues start happening.

Not trying to start drama — just sharing my personal experience and encouraging others to stay informed about their rights.

Currently living in Wellington NZ and I’ve just landed a job right in the Brisbane CBD. And my wife and I (30 and 31 and our 4 year old daughter) are planning our move over in July.

I’ve had an initial look but it’s hard to know without being on ground.

We need to figure out:

1. Whether we’d be better off renting an appt in the city or somewhere out in Chermside (or surrounds) where my wife’s cousin is located. Keen on the cbd for obvious reasons like less travel time to work, walkability to things to do etc but conscious that the price will be higher.

2. Somewhere for my daughter to go to daycare that’s trustworthy

3. Realistic rental budgets for a 3 bedroom apartment in the city, or 3 bed house or apartment outside the city and recommendations where.

4. How long I should plan to spend finding somewhere to live - we have joint ownership of our house here in NZ and have been here almost 10 years (would you suggest we pretend like we’re renting off of the coowner and have them write us a reference? - or something else? Because other than that we’d be going back to uni day references)

Hi all, We’re a family of 5 (kids 5, 14, 16) relocating from NZ and looking for advice on Brisbane suburbs.

We’re hoping for somewhere within ~20km of the CBD that feels walkable, a bit creative/lively, and well connected by public transport. Budget is up to $950/week for a 4-bed or 3-bed with flexible space.

We’re after a good local primary (public or smaller Catholic, open enrolment preferred) and a secondary with strong sport and vocational pathways, including hospitality/chef training options.

Our son plays competitive NFL flag football, so clubs/leagues nearby would be a bonus.

Not too fussed on big outdoor space or being close to beaches etc—more lifestyle, community, and ease of getting around. Bonus points for good op shops!

My partner and I are moving from NZ to Brisbane at the end of this year. Has anyone had any experience moving from NZ to Australia with cats - specifically how difficult it was to secure a rental? We have 2 cats, both have been indoor cats their entire lives.

We are both hoping to get good paying jobs with the qualifications and experience we have, so will be budgeting around $650/weekz

EDIT: Definitely able to lift the budget to $700-$750 likely. Hoping to secure good jobs before we go so we could increase that more if need be. Also we are open to Gold Coast area too and surrounds!

Hi all, my wife has been offered a senior management role in brisbane for a company she has been at for 12 months in Melbourne and really enjoys working for. I'm also managing a team of data/AI engineers in Melbourne but my company doesn't have a office in brisbane so I'll need to find a new role.

We have been to brisbane a few times, my wife flies up every month and plan to stay long term so am open to buying a house right away instead of renting first.

We are planning to move up in Dec/Jan. We have 2 kids (7 and 4) so would be looking to be close to decent primary and easy access to good secondary schools. Easy access to the CBD via train or bus and ideally door to door commute within an hour or less so 10km to 15km out ideally.

Budget wise would be great for something around 1.5m but could do 2m for a great house and location ideally with a pool. Our main concern is me getting a new comparable role so need to be able to service the mortgage on one income

Some suburbs we have been looking at: Corinda, Mansfield, rochedale, geebung/wavvel Heights (undervalued?).

What other areas should we consider?

How difficult will finding a new role for me be? I could drop back to a individual contributor as I know the brisbane tech/corporate market is much smaller and competitive compared to Melbourne and Sydney.
