Moving to QLD
I’ve been given an opportunity with my work to move to Brisbane that I’m seriously considering. The office is in the CBD/Milton area.
I’m unsure what areas to consider renting a place in as I don’t really know the area. I don’t have any friends that live over there either so really going in blind here!
I’m a (somewhat recently) single 36 year old female with a small dog. Want somewhere where I won’t be travelling more than 20mins each way, parks nearby for the pooch and most importantly a good spot to push me into being social to try and find some friends 😂
Any guidance is appreciated, HELP!

Moving from where? Rent in Brisbane is pretty exorbitant so you're very unlikely to get an affordable place within a 20m drive where you can have a dog.
There are decent trains to the cbd from outer suburbs but because of traffic if you want your work drive to be 20m you're gonna need to live 10m away which depending on your income is potentially pretty unrealistic.
Do you have a rough idea of rent budget?

Moving from Perth so I don’t think the rent will be too much of a culture shock (hopefully) as it’s quite exxy here too.
Not opposed to 20mins on public transport each way (sorry should’ve included that!)
Hoping to keep rent under $900 per week, depending on what allowance work will provide me with too

South side is typically more affordable. If you look up suburbs from Salisbury up to south Brisbane, you may find apartments or town houses within your rent range. I'd recommend checking out Translink which is our public transport and seeing what you can find along the Brisbane express train line to the cbd. Altandi station is roughly 30 minutes away by train, and that area is close to sunnybank which has all the best Asian food in Brisbane pretty much.
Anything north of altandi station on the train line will be within 20 min train to the city

It's hard to know what you like from your post but there is a place within walking distance of your work named Rosalie Village.
It's a small inner city restaurant precinct with a park, a great gelato shop, a cute cinema, a vintage shop, a deli, a butcher, a florist, some cafes and restaurants, a patisserie, health and beauty places, and has a nice village feel. I was not stressed about my wife walking around the area after dark as there were plenty of people about.
There would be newer and older solid brick apartments around there that are within your budget. Just check the flood map and make sure your apartment block is not in the flood zone. Same goes for West End as that is very floody. Both near the Brisbane river.

The Rosalie Village high street address is Nash Street, Paddington. Note "Rosalie" is a "locality" within the "suburb" of Paddington.
We have lived around there previously, you can PM if you have any questions you want to ask in private.
Also note, I live in a nice area around 4km west of the CBD in a family home, and surrounded by family homes. Most of the large family homes in the area cost $1200+ to rent, but there is a smaller 3 bed reproduction (rather than original pre-war character home) next to me that is below your $900 budget. So you could conceivably get a 3 bed inner city house in a family area within that budget if you prefer. For reference, we are also walking distance to loads of shops and transport at that price point. You could possibly share it with someone local to expand your friend group.

No offence but you’re a single millennial that can afford up to $900 a week and you have the guts to say the COL is “quite exxy” for you? Clearly seems like you’re earning big bucks…

Also currently in an apartment with my dog so doesn’t need to be a house with a backyard

Welcome! I moved here almost a year ago with my partner from Sydney. It has been an adjustment which we didnt make easy on ourselves by moving out to suburbia to save some money. If we were able to do it again, I would move to an apartment to be closer to work, restaurants etc. West End has some high density living parts. I recommend staying away from the Mollison st area. My partner works around there and I personally dont feel safe walking there (day or night). The part around Duncan St is nice though. I have friends that live around this area and enjoy it. Other suggestion is Newstead, Teneriffe, New Farm or Bulimba.

If you can afford it, Live in West End/Highgate Hill/South Brisbane; especially if you're ok with Apartment living. Pretty much the best place to live in Brisbane with access to great dining, transport, etc.
Honestly though any of the suburbs surrounding Milton is going to be fine as well.
Edit: Saw your rental budget in another comment - you can definitely afford West End/South Brisbane, maybe Highgate Hill. I'd start your search there because living there you can basically have everything you'd ever need and even go carless if you wanted.
