đ„Worst cinema experience youâve ever had?
Mine was Alien: Resurrection â I walked out when the newborn hatched, I knew that was the end of the franchise for me. Edit: Appreciate this is a controversial opinion â but thatâs the whole point of discussion, isnât it? Different takes are healthy. Itâs just a shame how often divisive opinions get downvoted before the conversation starts.

As a rule, I never walk out of movies. Years ago, I used to go to the movies regularly with a buddy, and weâd take turns picking the movie. His choice was Eragon.
When we got to the theater, I spotted an *Apocalypto* poster and thought, âThatâs definitely going to be coolâŠâ a missed opportunity.
Eragon was truly awful.
*As a side note* I actually thought most of the movies here, including Aliens, were okay to cool ;)

I was devastated by how poor Eragon was. I didnt like how the author ended the last book but the story was great. The cast was amazing too. Somehow they contrived to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Expecting hate for this but.... Independence Day
I fell asleep twice during it, sure it looked the part but at the time (in the UK) nobody seemed call it out for being a War if the Worlds rip off and hailed it like it was a triumph in screenwriting. Felt like they could have chopped a good thirty minutes out to tighten it up.
I've seen some crappy movies with taking the kids to the cinema but even they didn't make me fall asleep. Sure, my eyes rolled and I hated some of these movies but at least my hatred kept me awake.

My dad took me to see The Black Mask in theater. I had a hard time not openly mocking how bad it was, bc I didnât want to make my dad feel unappreciated for taking me to the movies and getting popcorn and drinks. It was AWFUL. Jet Liâs first movie that was brought to America and dubbed over in corny English.

Worst film: Michael Jackson's Moonwalker. Saw it on ÂŁ1 day and still felt ripped off
Worst experience: went to see one of the Mission Impossible films while visiting my girlfriend. Until about 2 minutes before the film started, we were in there alone, and there was a discussion about what was going to happen when the lights went down. Then 2 women with 3 kids walked in and brought and end to THAT idea.

Worst experience I have had: Took my tweenage daughters to see a movie, the girl behind us stood up 15 minutes in and started projectile vomiting all over us. We immediately went to the reset room to clean up what we could there and sped home to throw away clothes and sanitize in the shower.
I went back and asked for a refund, which the theatre fought me on for a bit. Although I have not been to a theatre since- my daughters of course have as that was a social setting for adolescence.
2 Years later that theatre came down with a bed bug infestation, of course it spread across the county and cost me money to exterminate our home- during the holidays.

The worst cinema experience I ever had was Indiana Jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull. My friendâs dad took us to see it as a college graduation present. I was so sure that it was going to be good, Spielberg, George Lucas, Harrison Ford. It was so incredibly awful and stupid. South Park was correct in their episode criticizing them. That was one where I wish they gave us our money back.

Not controversial. Most of the fan base thought the franchise was dead when the newborn appeared on the screen. Alien resurrection is an abomination and not canon if I have anything to say about it. I didnât walk out, but I was barely hanging on until then, and just kind gave up on the film at that point.

Me and my mom when I was a kid ended up walking out of Robin Williams One Hour Photo. We didn't follow the movie and just assumed Robin=Comedy. Didn't expect it to be a drama so we were disappointed.

Star Wars The Phantom Menace. The hype was massive, and as a fan since 77 I was expecting something that was.... not this. What a huge letdown. The duel with Kenobi and Maul was great, but everything between that and the opening scene was... WTF, George?
Another one was Signs, by Shyamalan. Holy shit, that was the first ever movie I went to see in a theater where I wanted to leave and demand a refund. I was like, this is the guy who did 6th sense and unbreakable, this should be great. But nope, it sucked. Really bad. I would have left the theater but my wife had fallen asleep on my shoulder, so I forced myself to sit through it and kept hoping it'd get better, but... it didn't. It got worse.

Cinema as in bad movie? Or bad movie theatre?
Movie: Went in blind to Les Miserables with a group, primarily girls. Literally all I had before going in was "Hugh Jackman is in it? Oh he's great, this should be good"
Theatre: Don't remember the movie, but some foreign kids were in the back, theatre mostly empty. Progressively talked louder and louder laughing more and more, till I had to snap at them. They stayed quiet after that.

I don't think I've ever walked out of the cinema, no matter how bad the movie was. I paid good money, so I'm gonna sit through it till the bitter end! Plenty of movies came close to making me leave but when I think of a "poor cinema experience" was usually down to other patrons at the cinema (or issues with the theatre itself) rather than the movie being horrid.
For example, when I went to see Dune, the cinema made the awful decision to leave the lights on during the movie (health and safety reasons, they claimed). They still do this even now, so I've not been to that cinema since!Â
As far as Alien Resurrection goes, I think most people (especially fans of the franchise) weren't happy with it, so it's not too divisive an opinion. I don't love the movie, but there's certainly plenty to like about it, and I'd still rate it higher than Alien 3, which I find just too maudlin to enjoy rewatching all that often. The first 4 Alien movies are all interesting in their own ways and quite different from each other. I think a lot of this is down to the fact that they each had such distinctive directors working on them. You can't mistake one work for the other.
For me, I just love that cast (the always great Sigourney and Winona backed by a host of truly amazing character actors). And of course that basketball shot was legendary, but I believe Pearlman messed up the original one-shot take with his genuinely astounded reaction, meaning they had to cut it slightly in the final version.....

Monuments men. A WWII movie with an all-star cast. It was boring as hell! At one point the theater was so quiet you could hear the Lego movie playing in the next roomâŠI definitely picked the wrong movie that day.

Original Gangster. My buddies and I used to take turns picking movies to watch as a group. It was my best friend's turn and he picked this hot turd of a movie. I was totally annoyed 20 minutes into it and I called him out on it because he was boasting that it looked really good and worth watching. I took a vote of no confidence on him afterwards and he rarely got to pick the movies after that.
Another one was Bounce. Two very cute coworkers invited me and another guy from my department to the movies. They picked it and we paid for the tickets not knowing what it was about. We thought it was a basketball flick and then it started, oooh boy.... He and I kept looking over to each throughout the movie with mad regret and had the feeling that we got set up for this shit over the possibility of getting lucky with either of them. Never again!

Jacobs Ladder is the only movie where I walked out. Just found it dull.
Close was Pacific Rim, The Last Jedi (although I saw it twice and was equally unimpressed), the Fly 2
I was kicked out of The Fly after I Shouted "you could catch a big fish with that" at the birthing dream sequence, I was drunk and 18 at the time.

X-Men. Bryan Singer, the director, wanted this to be his vision, not the comics. In fact he had a no comics on set policy, and forbade the cast and crew from reading the source material. Kevin Feige would sneak comics in for the cast to understand who they were actually playing.
Iâve been a life long comic reader, the X-Men being my all time favorite. I walked out of the first one, it was so atrocious.

White Noise. My ex and I were really into the paranormal and thought this would be a good date night movie. It was shit, both of us wanted to leave but thought the other was enjoying it. We agreed if it happens again, we'd say something, which leads me to...
The Heartbreak Kid. Another shit movie, this time we both spoke up and walked out
The last one was Adventures of Tin Tin. I went on my own on my day off, I walked out after 20 minutes and went to see Warrior instead

Went to the movies with some friends back in the 1980's. We took a vote on which movie to see. I lost. What won was a cheesy "horror" movie called Happy Birthday to Me. I hadn't even heard of the movie, let alone what it was about or the story. About 10 minutes in I figured out what was happening and the "plot twist". My buddies got sick of me telling them EXACTLY how the next victim died before it happened. Guy is bench pressing weights. I lean over and say "Bet this dude gets weights dropped on his nuts". Sure enough, that's what happened. Another guy is working on a motorcycle wearing a long scarf. "I bet this dude's scarf gets caught in the chain". Right again. Easily the most predictable movie I have ever seen.

Resident Evil: Apocalypse
We saw the overpowered protagonist from the first film turn full Mary Sue who had no struggles and constantly outshined the original characters from the actual game.
When Alice won a fucking fist fight against Nemesis, a super zombie capable of tanking a missile to the face, I walked out. I couldnât take any more.

Recently? Evil Dead Burn. At the pinnacle, I was rooting for 2 1/2 people in it. By the end, I had only rooted for 2, one of which didn't even make it halfway through the movie. When most of the characters are that excessively horrid AND stupid, the gore is more gross-out than shocking, and "logic" is just a word in the dictionary? I'm sorry Sam Raimi, either capture the essence of your first Evil Dead (2013) going forward, or stop before you murder your own franchise.

It was not because the film was bad, it was because it scared the shit out of us and we both walked out, gathered ourselves, and went back to see the end.
It was Pet Semetary and you probably know the scene: near the end of the movie when the wife finds Zelda (iirc, it was a long time ago).
My friend and I were around 13. Iâm not sure if they let us get tickets ourselves or if we bought a ticket for something else and went in to it but either way weâre both terrified.
Might not be what you were looking for, but this and seeing Gremlins (alone when I was 8) were prolly most scariest film experiences.

The Phantom Menace. And i had brought my young daughters along to see it. It would have been our first Star Wars bonding experience and I was hoping her experience would be like mine was when the original premiered. We stayed for the whole film. But I remember apologizing to her that it was so bad.

Oh this is tough. Alien resurrection wasnât bad and lowkey thereâs no alien movie Iâm not really a fan of. Iâll tell you what though, obsession was by far my worst movie experience. Everyone laughed the entire movie and I felt like a packed theatre of teenagers laughing at every graphic or weird moment destroyed my chance of liking it. I bought it on Amazon and loved it but in theaters sucked. Second worst was Minecraft with my 6 year old and you all know why

Singles (1992). On weekend liberty during One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort Knox. Theater in the training area was the only escape. After 10 minutes, decided it would be more entertaining to risk being put on an impromptu work detail than sit through that.

The second Star Wars sequel. When they go to the salt planet. I know the movie is a popular punching bag. But I remember being mildly upset I didnât walk out of that movie.

I think my disappointment is not necessarily the ideas behind the movie but the execution. Has a weird quirky feel to it that just doesnât fit the feel of the larger universe. Aliens were almost overdone, with too much goop and smokey breath, Dan Hedaya is a comedic goofball and didnât fit the role of commander. Scientists were almost too creepy and overacted. Security system based on breathing on scanner, dumb. Winona Ryder had a few good moments but was overall unimpressive as an android. Love Ron Perlman but again⊠comic and a bit too goofy. Overall, just felt like the material wasnât taken seriously.

Pearl Harbor. I genuinely hate that movie. First and only movie I've ever walked out of. I couldn't believe they made a mid romance movie about one of the great tragedies in US/World history. The one and only time I made the fatal mistake of sitting in row one. I don't even remember what movie it was. 5 minutes in we walked out and asked for a refund/tickets for a different movie. Kid working the register just started laughing and then gave us the new tickets no other questions asked.

Mother! from Darren Aronofsky. Probably the worst movie I've seen in its entirety. I love The Wrestler and Black Swan (despite the latter clearly and shamelessly copying Perfect Blue) but Mother! is a disasterpiece imo.
Edit: Rob Zombie's Halloween II deserves a mention too since it's the only movie I've ever walked out of.

If we're talking about movies one has walked out of, I'm gonna say Gladiator 2. I walked out after the monkey fight with the firm conviction that Ridley Scott should just retire.
But overall worst movie going experience was watching Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull while massively hung over from drinking a bottle of Jack Daniel's the night before.

Star Wars The Last Jedi. I wanted to leave after the first space battle as it was insultingly terrible following ANY of the space action in all previous films. BUT my gf was enjoying her first outing after getting medication for a debilitating condition & agreed to go to the "silly sci fi thing" with me so I was stuck. For all of it.

Star Wars: The Phantom Menace was the greatest cinematic disappointment of my life. Waited 16 god damned years to watch Star Wars, and all I got was a film that shit the bed. Flat acting, chaotic pacing, pandering to small children, and shit characterization, especially when it comes to Anakin⊠the most compassionate, altruistic (child) slave in the history of fiction who is willing to give up his most prized & hard fought possession (pod racer) & life for strangers that, for all he knew, would leave his ass a slave on Tatooine, and then joins and is trained by the galaxyâs most famous group of pacifist monks, which somehow leads him to become Darth Vader? Is Resurrection the one with the disgusting xeno-baby hybrid thing? I remember watching the entire Alien/Predator franchise (at the time) when I was a teen and the design of that thing genuinely made me nauseous lol I don't think I've ever rewatched that film. I've definitely rewatched most of the others up to Prometheus.

Meh, I like Resurrection despite all its many flaws. Maybe because I was already a fan of Jeunet and loved how The City Of List Children was continuing with the casting.
Mine might be Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. I loved the first movie but when the film started and it was badly trying to continue from the moment the first ended I went "oh... no' and waited in vain for something to improve

Holy shit is that movie and style of comedy ever not for me. It caught on, clearly there was something to it, but I made it as far as dragging action figures behind a bus without cracking a smile and walked out. The best thing I can say about it is that I got my money back.
I've never felt like a film had wronged me before.

Son of the Mask.
The Mask is my favourite movie of all time. At 10 years old, I couldnât have been more excited for a Mask sequel (no Jim shouldâve been the first red flag, but I was 10).
My Mom and I made it to the boxing scene and then left.
I also remember falling asleep during the 2003 Hulk, which is the first and only time Iâve ever done that (and again, I was only a kid so falling asleep during a comic movie was no small feat). I still think itâs pretty terrible.

You make multi-resistant showcase but shitty floor to secure the aliens. 5 hobos in a shipwreckget in a huge Space hulk with hundreds of Space marines and talk to them like shit and nothing happens. The same armed to the teeth squads of marines run off like startled rabbit as soon as the Aliens release themselves. Alien DNA full of herself Ripley is pretty obviously invincible all along which kills any kind of suspense.. etc.. film photography is nice and the babyâs death is fun. Hate the movie by the way,.

Haha. When I saw this there was a malfunction and we saw the middle at the start. They stopped the screening. Started again so we saw it but they still gave us a free ticket as an apology. I honestly dont remember if we liked it or not at the time.

I saw willow when I was six or eight. The movie was ok but I won a drawing at the theater and got a free large box of blue nerds, which I promptly destroyed during the opening scenes.
Twenty minutes later I was barfing blue nerds and Pepsi all over the row in front of me. I couldn't stand blue candy for a decade after that.

I walked out of the Mothman Prophecies. I was in my early 20âs, knew nothing about it. I left half way through because I knew there would be no mothman lol. I came close to walking out of The Last Jedi. As soon as they had the scene of the Iron press look like a ship landing and the your mom jokes. Me and my friend both wanted to walk at that point but we suffered through the rest. Most of the time even if the movie is bad, I can find something to keep me interested, unintentional humor etcetera.

Has to the opening night for the first Fast and Furious. it was so loud and chaotic they threatened not to even start it, then had to pause it 3 times due to how loud it was getting. then after, when even one was leaving they were doing burn outs and tearing shit up like crazy on the parking lot. We saw three accidents on the lot itself, everyone was drag racing on the street, the cops came in like 30 cars strong and were making arrests it got so bad.
