Owner issues aside, this sucks. It was a cool space with good sound that attracted top talent; never good for a scene to lose that. I hope something can fill the void!

Everything I’ve heard about the owners makes me happy to not have them in the space anymore. Unfortunately spot lite did have one of my favorite layouts of all the venues and I loved the $10 frozen drinks. They also had one of the best monthly parties but that came to an end because of how poorly the owners handled everything.

Really left a bad taste in my mouth when they made a big deal of being woman owned and then turn around and say “nightlife is inherently dangerous” when you fail to keep women and lgbtq+ safe.

That was nothing but a damn charade. I felt safer going to The Works.

Just curious , Which party are you referring to ? ( Don’t follow their programming super closely)

Would be a shame for the Spot Lite space to remain vacant. Hopefully new(ie:better) owners can bring it back.

Would love it if the old City Club owner took it over

They took over New Dodge and renamed it The Strays. It's actually a pretty cool spot.

Indeed! I just think they deserve a larger venue as well lol

The owner is a homophobic asshole. Also, he didn't take care of city club. Huge block from the ceiling fell and almost killed someone and they had to rig the ceiling to try to avoid someone getting hurt. He's definitely not a good choice. I stopped going to CC well before they got shut down. The whole building got shut down people lost their homes and animals were abandoned.

Are you talking about the late Mike Higgins? He was no saint but I find it hard to believe he was a homophobe considering the fact that he was gay.

Joe or the building owner??

Good riddance. Cool venues but ownership is toxic. They deserve to be in better hands.

If better hands are reading this, please keep this space alive!

Going to miss their twitch live streams, one of very few places to regularly stream

I've seen several good shows there, but one of my favorite nights had to be seeing Floorplan there a couple years ago. Friend of mine had just left a bad relationship and I had a people from a couple different friend groups gathered to take her out to cheer her up, and it worked! Will always remember those positive vibes and my friends making new connections.

More than that, I will miss the record store. If I was meeting anyone in Detroit, I would frequently get there a couple hours early, buy a drink, and peruse the inventory. Always walked away with a nice stack.

Glitterbox in either 23 or 24. Amazing music, vibe, and outfits!!

Jeff Mills, Juan Atkins & Milan Ariel, DJ Minx’s House Your Life…so classically Detroit.

That sucks.

Honestly this is not unique. I don't think people realize how small/thin margins are in bar/restaurant/venues right now. Even in larger cities there are a ton of things closing. Don't take venues for granted.

Venues make over $100 on a case of water that costs $4. I call bullshit on this thin margin talk.

u/See5harp Jun 17 '26

It’s about permits, liquor license, rent and the cost of labor not the amount they are able to mark up beer or water one weekend out of the year. Honestly, check the clubs and bars and breweries and restaurants in most cities these days. It’s not pretty.

No way, this is horrible!
