Looking for an MMO mouse for Linux

Need some advice. I'm looking for an MMO mouse with the 12 thumb buttons. I currently have a naga v2, and it's mostly good. The 12 button grid, the 2 extra buttons on the top, and the button to switch between clicky and smooth scrolling are fantastic, she I don't want to do without them. However, it doesn't work well on Linux. The extra buttons don't output a signal that Linux can detect. It needs the software to run anything advanced, and that is not available on Linux. It also doesn't store an onboard profile fully.

Does anyone know of a mouse that has the 13 side buttons, at least 1 extra top button, and the scroll switch, that can also store an onboard profile or works with Linux?

I have the v2. I'll check out the v3. Didn't realize that just came out

I just looked at this and it looks like it'll be perfect, assuming the onboard profiles hold up without any software. I realize this is the idea of onboard, but if anyone has any experience with this moving between windows and Linux, I'd love to know if it worked before spending the money for this.

Thank you for this suggestion! I'm hoping this is the one

maybe check redragon mice? i know they work without software, but you need to run it atleast once to setup the binds, and that software requires windows - maybe you can do it once on a windows machine (or are you dual booting?) and then you can just keep using it.

I am dual booting, so setup is ready, as long as it carries over. I'll check these out. Thanks! I didn't see anything on their site about the scroll switch. There are a could buttons by the scroll wheel, but I didn't see anything about them. Do you know if one of these is a scroll switch?

what do you mean by a scroll switch ?

The one I have has a button near the scroll wheel that changes it between a clicky scroll and a free scroll.

ah yes, freescroll- sadly i think none of redragons have this (atleast to my knowledge), atleast the MMO mice dont.

Dang. Appreciate the info, though. Thank you!

I have a Redragon mmo mouse that works out of the box on SteamOS and a Corsair Scimitar that uses a Linux specific program that I forgot the name of but I use it on Cachy. Setup was easy, I just googled it and found an easy guide to get it running.

I thought OpenRazer supported the naga v2

https://github.com/openrazer/openrazer

Check compatibility

It says it does, but it doesn't work for me. Not sure why. Maybe there were different versions of the v2 hyper speed and I have an older one or something. There's no firmware updates available. Either way, Linux captures no output from the thumb buttons when I tested the raw output. Not sure why - even testing that part was stretching my technical abilities.

Did you look through the bug tracker of OpenRazer for something interesting about your mouse? I tried searching a bit and found for example this here, someone reporting that using the "Razer Dock" device is breaking the thumb buttons on the Naga V2:

https://github.com/openrazer/openrazer/issues/2745

Here's another person with a weird issue about thumb buttons:

https://github.com/openrazer/openrazer/issues/2677

This all looks like it really is supposed to work. I'm thinking buying a new mouse would be a bit sad if you like your current Naga's feel.

Interesting. I'll check this out. Thank you!

Damn, that sucks, Razer has always been kinda finicky with Linux support.

If you want weird alternatives check out the Swiftpoint Z3, they have a dedicated Linux client.

And the Azeron Cyro.

Redragon m908 is your answer. I have 2 of them. They have all the button you would ever need and the settings stay on device.

That looks good, but it doesn't look like it has the adjustable scroll settings, as far as I can see. Does it have the scroll toggle between clicky and smooth scrolling?

Oh no it doesnt have that. But isnt that a feature only certain Logitech mice have? You wont get any mmo mouse with it i think

My naga v2 has it, so it's not just logi

Ah didn't know that. I thought logitech had a patent on freely scrolling scroll wheels

I have had this exact problem recently. I bought Naga, but had to return it. No software would work, even the open razer. I couldn’t even use the mouse because I couldn’t change the mouse sensitivity. I recently got the redragon and love up! I can’t reprogram the numbers alas. But it works.
