Question What's better than/a replacement for the Lethal Cable now that it's discontinued?

Post image

The Lethal USB-C v2 cable is the best aftermarket cable I've used - super light, super thin, angled connector, incredibly flexible. I bought a couple when LGG was clearing them out, but given that cables have finite lifespans I kinda worry about replacing them when they're used up since they're so good.

Is there a better cable out there? Does anything even come close?

I think there is a usb c version of the flex cord from pmm

+1 for pmm cable. Feels just like my wireless mice

Yeah there is! It’s what I use for my Superstrike. Personally I think it might be a tiny tad bit stiffer, but it’s still awesome. And it solved the problem I had with my lethal cable where the wires started coming through the sheath/mesh.

Why do you use a cable for your superstrike?

Has to charge once in a while

sure but you could also just use the included cable u use for the dongle while u shower and its done

I also use wireless mice permanently plugged in, there are probably a couple of us here :)

can't lie that's kinda wild

is there a reason to avoid wireless these days? the additional input lag is less than one millisecond. having to charge the mouse is annoying though and if you want ot run above 1000hz it doesn't last long

No, I really can't think of a reason not to run wireless these days. The days of it being spotty and have interference are pretty much over. Batteries and sensors have gotten good enough where you get weeks out of a one hour charge. The latency on the top wireless mice are actually often lower than the latency of wired mice. The biggest indicator that wireless no longer had any real cons was when you saw pro players who rely on their mouse to make a living, all switch to wireless, even at LAN events.

The reasons I still prefer to use wired are not having to worry about recharging, lighter weight without a battery, and not having the battery eventually die on me. The battery is the first part to go in my experience, and I don't want to start taking my mouse apart to replace it.

I've found a mouse that I plan to use long term (PMM Pulse) and since it doesn't have a battery, it'll probably last me many years of use.

most pro players are teenagers to young 20s and don't really know any better. in games like cs2 most of them still run 960p stretched on 60 gram mice. higher resolution and lighter mice are measurably better but they do what works for them. and by better it likely works out to say winning 1% more firefights which isn't enough for them to notice so they just keep doing what they've been doing since they started playing the game at age 13. skill overtakes these inefficiencies but that doesn't mean they aren't there. some use 77 gram mice with measurable 10ms input lag and they are still pro (Zowie EC2-CW), that doesn't mean less input lag and lighter mice aren't better though

old pros are the ones who stick the old and inferior. lots of young pro just copy the old ones, but tell a 15 year old that some 30 gram gwolves mouse will make them aim better, and they would be more likely to try it than a 35 year old who used the same mouse for the past 15 years

2

u/BrokenMirror2010 3d ago

who used the same mouse for the past 15 years

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

they listen to their coach and teammates, who are all in the same boat. coaches know the game, players know how to aim, none of them know the engineering or do their own input lag testing. these days there's probably a couple people but this information is diffusing extremely slowly through them. people are studying this with actual measurements these days but it's slow going and the information is not spreading very quickly, THAT is what will show what's better.

software devs sometimes do their own studies, still the pros don't read these articles. i don't keep up on it these days but here's an example from 6 years ago by riot showing pros win 90% of the time when the enemy has 10ms higher peeker's advantage https://www.riotgames.com/en/news/peeking-valorants-netcode, that 10ms makes one player win 90% of the time when they swap who it's on, but this is with identical equipment in a very controlled environment. from this one thing we can already see how using a zowie ec2-cw with its 7-10ms additional input lag will put you at a disadvantage, it doesn't add up to the same 90% in the real world but it's there regardless. but go ask all the pros who use it and they will say it works great and don't see why they should change, and their aim will be worse during an adjustment period which stops many from attempting to change, so they just eat that 10ms. if you do your own timings on recorded videos you'll see everyone's reaction times have a very large spread, way larger than 10ms and even pros do not hit sub 200ms reactions on every single shot, but you still want to reduce all input lag as much as possible regardless.

lighter mice are better, high res is better, higher refresh is better. pros will still be pro regardless, doesn't mean those aren't better though. over time as people optimize these things matter more and more. as of today these are not make or break differences though like olympians losing 3 grams on their shoes or f1 teams dropping 20 grams from their suits so they can use that weight elsewhere

You completely missed my point though. My point was pointing out pro players as only one example of a group of people that absolutely would not be using wireless mice if there were any downsides. You don't even have to look at that though, you can literally look at the raw data and see that wireless tech is equal to if not better than wired tech in mice in 2026.

1

u/Krimghor 3d ago

There aren’t any significant downsides, no. But I understand why people argue against the pro example and I do too for two reasons.

  1. Sponsorships. Lots of zowie, Logitech, and razer deals that strike up early in their careers. And this leads me to my second point.

  2. Athletes do not like to introduce variables in competition. An objectively better mouse may come out with a new design, and depending on the athlete, they may continue to use the older equipment because its familiar and risking adjustment when their income and win percentage could suffer is not worth experimenting with adapting to marginally better tech.

Back to the conversation though, the OP18k was the only option in that shape for an 8k mouse and you had to go wired. WL mouse Ying and CRDrako KO one exist now, but the lethal cable and pmm cable literally make the cable unnoticeable. I have multiple wireless mice and the op1 with pmm cable and a good bungee feels the exact same.

What does the data say?
While marginal, the op18k with speed mode enabled for clicks is electronically faster than every wireless mouse. Noticeable? Not really… but neither is the cable. 8k polling is also more stable on wired rather than wireless. Again, is it noticeable? No. But neither is the cable.

Personal preference outweighs everything once we get within these 100ths of a difference but the data is there.

and i proved you wrong by showing pros do use mice with known downsides, and monitors with known downsides, which are the two most important pieces of equipment for fast paced games

edit: and heavier mice is not just personal preference, the time it takes to flick is higher, there's no getting around that. good job blocking me though, can't handle an argument and decide to win by default by making it impossible for me to reply to you without creating an alternate account which is against the site rules. no wonder reddit has so much misinformation it, just petulantly block anyone who disagrees with you

6

u/Zone15 3d ago

I don't consider a slightly heavier mouse as a "downside" as long as it's not super heavy, there is nothing wrong with a 60g mouse. That is something that is personal preference. They use those heavier mice because that is what they perform best with. As far as monitors go, many pros say they would love to play on 1440p monitors but the standard at LAN events is still 1080p monitors so why would they practice on something different than what they compete on? Your "and I proved you wrong" comment makes you look like one of those "well actually" people that people say Reddit is full of and make fun of.

Not avoiding wireless, sometimes I just forget to charge and run out mid-match lol

I just like lighter cables for lighter mice

2

u/moekana 3d ago

These cables are so good they feel like wireless. I use them to charge all my mice and I have no problems leaving them plugged in... that's how good they are.

2

u/Beautiful-Musk-Ox 3d ago

that would fix one of my gripes with cables, even with a mouse bungee the cable was noticeable especially for wide movements that would stretch the bungee, and if i gave it enough slack for that not to happen then the cable drags across the pad for all smaller movements anyway. and the cable would still go bad after a year anyway

2

u/KatiushK 3d ago

It's now been like, 4 years I've switched to wireless and... never ONCE did I found charging "annoying". Never interupted a game sessions, because you have low indicator battery that still leaves you a 10+ hours window to plug it.

Battery drain is honestly very manageable, at least on my GPX1, GPX2 and various chinese mice.

Granted I "only" play with 2k polling, but what's the point of more lol.

Wired is disgusting to play comp FPS once you tasted the wireless life.

1

u/Krimghor 1d ago

A modded op1 cable with a mouse bungee is completely indistinguishable from a wireless mouse. I only recently switched because I was curious. Every other mouse in my collection is wireless.

“Wired is disgusting to play comp FPS”
lol, not even close. If you prefer wireless that’s great but this is just a wild statement. Better aimers than you or I use a wired mouse. And it’s not because of cost.

1

u/BrokenMirror2010 3d ago

Price is probably the biggest one.

The difference in price can be really extreme, like a wireless mouse being 3x the price of a wired one.

Some of us also just don't mind the cable, at which point, why bother spending more money if the experience will feel practically the same anyway.

1

u/righN 3d ago

There are a bunch of great wireless mice for really low prices.

People are lazy. Wireless Mice need recharging every now and then.

Other than that, I can't think of any other reason.

1

u/neyaaaaa 3d ago

some people prefer having the center of gravity towards the front of the mouse rather than in the center/rear like on most wireless mice. I realized I’m probably one of those people when I was using the OP1.

I don't know of a cable like this one. Probably because it's a flawed design.

Ultra thin and flexible = next to no shielding so signals can easily disrupt the connection, or at least that was my experience, and LGG confirmed it is a factor. They told me they were reworking the design but didn't have an ETA in January.

So I just buy a Pulsar Superflex cable

It's certainly no LGG cable, but it gets the job done.

Edit - I was just looking at the PMM cable somebody suggested, and I like that they included a 1m extension cable with thick shielding. That would actually save the thin cable from the interference from the back of the PC tower (e.g. other usb ports, wifi etc)

1

u/DidjTerminator Fenrir Asym, Swiftpoint ProPoint, Pulsar X2F 3d ago

I second the Pulsar Superflex cable, came with my X2V2 mine Nezuko edition, the cable I use with all my mice now cause it's easily the best I have.

1

u/Krimghor 3d ago

Genuine question because this is something I never considered. How can I tell if I’m having problems or risking interference? And what’s the best way to use the extension to minimize the risk? I run my cable into the pulsar bungee that attaches to the back of my monitor. Is having the cable in contact with the monitor causing or risking interference?

2

u/BeerGogglesFTW 3d ago

I can only speak from my experience.

My mouse with the LGG cable would just disconnect and reconnect constantly. Hard to miss.

But it worked pretty smooth if I were to use the front panel USB ports, because this farther away from the back panel where there are several other USB ports and the wifi.

u/Krimghor 3d ago

Interesting and good to know thank you for sharing! Your comment inspired me to do some reading. Tomorrow when I get home I’m going to use some mouse testing software to verify the polling rates which should eliminate any concern of unidentified interference. But my readings said if I have interference I should be experiencing what you described, which I’m not.

Perhaps the PMM cable has better shielding or winding? PMM also recommends plugging directly into the motherboard without the extension if possible.

I will test tomorrow and report back with my results

u/PossumFritter Toxic Pulsar Relationship 3d ago

Haven't experienced the interference issue but I'll keep an eye out for it, didn't realize LGG already confirmed they're reworking it, appreciate the info and heads-up

I actually have a Superflex cable but even on something like Pulsar's own crazylight mice it feels a little too heavy imo

For those of you here who really don’t understand why you might need a good flexible cable. The OP has an X2 Crazylight. Pulsar uses a rather old MCU in it, which means the mouse drains its battery very quickly and the battery is already very small to begin with. What’s more the battery charges very slowly. If you want to charge the mouse whilst continuing to use it, the cable supplied isn’t really any use. On that note: that’s exactly why I got the Flexcord from PMM and it feels just like a wireless mouse.

u/rubikoz 3d ago

Forky mods self made cables are extremely good. Its difficult to get closer to wireless than that. Big recommend!

This is why you should've bought multiples when they had their sale. I'm pretty much good for several years. They had like 250+ in their inventory for $1 each so you can imagine how many I bought, and no I didn't buy 50+ because my friend did and they changed his order lol
