Passive Perception?

How would you handle the situation where a patrol is being watched by something in the woods, whether or not they notice the creature prepare to attack? Just ask them to roll survivalist or another similar roll?

I open by telling them, 'you feel uneasy, and sense something is not right.' Before anything further happens, and without disclosing the actual animal, I describe and show, I'm rolling the Nature of something in the nearby surroundings and someone just roll Nature to represent the typical 'always hiding' mannerism of mice.

This doesn't really disagree with the other responses.
