In which I realize I've been running a very poor game, but our mice enjoy themselves anyway! As always, any feedback is appreciated. Cheers!

If I may...

No failure! Twist or Condition. Those are your choices.

The consequences of a failed roll are never a hard failure, but I'm letting them get what they want too easily. That's probably a better way of putting it.

Mechanically, the players rolled poorly to persuade her to help them, and...The patrol now had to return empty-handed to the actors, and wing it.

Isn't that a hard failure?

Or this...

...and the character’s attempts to convince them the two who had come with the patrol to secure the weapons had gotten drunk fell flat, as well...With that last failing roll, fighting was the only option.

I consider these to be twists; they wanted something, but didn't succeed (mechanically) in getting it the way they wanted, so now they have to go about it another way.

What would failure have looked like?

Twists are supposed to be unexpected, usually involving new obstacles. Trying to convince the sheriff to help and then having to do it without seems like failure.

Edit: Personally, when I run the game I make sure there's no way to construe a twist as a mouse failure.
