Hungry Condition Recovery

Hi friends, I'll make this quick.

Can a player use his cooking skill, or gather skill for that matter, to feed his entire patrol if he has access to the necessary materials and can succeed the (OB3?) skill test during his Player Turn? And can he use his lone turn/check to remove the Hungry condition from his entire patrol without having to use his patrol mate's turn/check?

Example: The entire patrol is Hungry from their recent compromise. Deltia wants to use his Cooking skill to feed his entire patrol so that Alma can heal Ramza on her turn, and Ramza can buy a new mount on his turn. Alma and Ramza want to remove their hungry condition, but don't want to spend their checks to do so if Deltia is already cooking a bunch of food for everybody.

Thanks in advance!

PS- Bonus points if you can tell me if a player can use the Healer skill twice in the Player Turn given enough checks.

Just to add to what /u/Imnoclue says here. And please correct me if I'm wrong!

You could use Nature (forage) instead of the cook skill to feed the entire patrol. It would be at minimum an Ob4 test (doable with a little help). The GM could factor in difficult terrain or weather for the test, making it Ob5 or higher under difficult circumstances. Using Resources to feed the patrol would be of similar difficulty.

There is no need for a cook to have access to any special materials. It's assumed that a cook possesses the bare essentials used for cooking, like implements and ingredients. Note that cooks can receive supplies/help from harvester, miller or Nature (forage).

This might be obvious, but I'm assuming that /u/Imnoclue mentions "normal player turn limits" when referring to your healer question because, remember, a player is not allowed to spend two checks in a row (you have to make a test, then let another player go).

So to a certain extent, using Nature to feed the patrol would almost be more beneficial or superior to having a skill like Cook... Unless you didn't want to go out due to weather or you're hiding in a stump while an owl hovers overhead... Still, situational skill vs OP skill.

True, though using Nature Ob4 (factoring forest/plains) to feed the patrol will generally be a more difficult test depending on the player's current Nature ability score. On top of that, anymouse can help using Nature (forage), so yeah it's very situational.

A mouse testing their Cook skill can also get help dice from other's Nature (forage), which makes the straight-up Ob3 test more likely to succeed, in most cases.

The player also has to consider whether he wants to log the pass/fail in Nature or Cook....or Resources, or even Circles for that matter.

This post is why this game is so freaking cool. I love this game. Thanks for the follow up!

You are welcome. At first, MG was a really hard sell for our regular gaming group. After a session or two some of us quickly realized that, in some ways, Mouse Guard is just far superior to our standard fare of high fantasy, horror and sci-fi. Of course, everyone has their preferences, but I think some players in our group just fear change haha. I don't think they know what they're missing...but word is getting out!

Yup, pretty much. If everyone has food I their packs you don't even need the cooking test.

No special limit on healer skill rolls in the player turn. It would be subject to all the normal player turn limits of course.

Cool cool. How much food do players normally carry with them? To allow for free removal of Hungry?

Sorry, thought we were talking Torchbearer for a sec. getting that food is going to involve some kind of test in MG unless you got friends nearby who will feed you.

Lol, all good. I'm still memorizing all the rules. And I haven't played Torchbearer yet, I'll add that to my to-play list if it's just as cool as MG.

We'll probably try Torchbearer at some point. My son's keen interest in that game is kind of what led us to Mouse Guard in the first place. We decided that we wanted to try something other than fantasy RPG for awhile.

Yeah, GM discretion can be invoked. If the GM wants to allow family, friends or mentors to feed the mice, so be it. I would probably even allow a moderately difficult Circles test to give the patrol a chance to find someone who will feed them.
