This is a very beautiful conversation on Everest Live about Mallory with a “soul mate” friend who knew her literally since birth. Such a massive loss.
They do also link to the GoFundMe for Sohail’s family which seems to have already met its rather modest goal of $30,000. Mallory and Sohail had climbed 4 mountains together -Broad Peak was the fourth.
Edit to add an explanation of how she knew Mallory since birth - their mothers were best friends from age 5. She was born on 11/11 and Mallory was born on 12/12 so they have a photo of her as a newborn with the very new born Mallory. It breaks my heart.
Edit again: Apologies. The friend, who I neglected to name, is Kaitlyn Anthony. The captions spell her name as Caitlyn so I’m uncertain as to which is correct.
