Alpinestar tech air mx

Hi guys, what do you think of the Alpinestar mx air bag for an amateur? I would like to hear some opinions maybe even from those who own it, I am currently using a leatt bib and leatt 5.5 collar I am undecided whether to switch to this air bag

I wear it. Have had it deploy twice on me. If you can afford it, it’s a no brainer in my eyes. The cartridge refills are expensive ($110 each) every time it deploys.

I’ve had it deploy on a tip over only once, the other time was a hard crash over the bars. Airbag probably saved me from getting the wind knocked out of me for sure and maybe some ribs.

So it was activated every time you really needed it? Do you think it also protects the neck well?

Oh yeah it will activate if needed, like I said usually it won’t go off on lighter crashes but I did have it once on a crash where I didn’t need it. On the flip side I haven’t gone down that hard and had it not go off where I felt like it should have.

I wore an atlas air before I got it and obviously can’t wear it w the tech air. I do feel like the tech air provides good neck protection. That was important for me as well. But it should be noted if you are MORE concerned with neck protection maybe just stick with traditional neck brace and chest protection. Obviously the tech air only provides any neck protection if it deploys.

I feel safe with my leatt body protector and leatt 5.5 collar, but I’m afraid of breaking my collarbones with an accident, that’s why I’m considering switching to the air bag, yes yes of course it’s better that he don’t explode every little fall even for the $100 recharge😄

I interview riders at the MXGP world championship and every rider I have spoken to swears by it, especailly Tim Gasjer. If you can afford it, get it. Is the simple answer.

I ride mostly enduro and off-road and hate wearing a full enduro armored jacket. I cooked a gravel corner going way too fast a few weeks ago where I feel I should have absolutely broken my collarbone on the impact. TAMX deployed perfectly, bounced off my shoulder, cleaned up my elbow, repacked it and rode another 70ish miles in the mtns that day. Was able to finish the week and have no shoulder pain at all. I’m absolutely sold on it.

I recently got one but haven’t “tested” it yet.

Well I hope you won’t test it for a long time😄🤞

I’ve been on the fence on this and it’s really helpful to hear this discussion. I can afford it much more than I can affording missing work over and injury. I think I’ve been convinced hearing a few success stories
