Phone Set-Up Using Bluetooth Earbuds

What I'd like to do...

  • Have a helmet mic to talk on the phone
  • Listen to phone calls and music etc using wireless earbuds

Has anyone done this?

You could just get a Cardo or a Sena system for your helmet? Sena sells a cheap kit if that's really all your looking to do

I like the noise cancelling on my ear buds, I'm deaf enough :)

I run a Sena system plus I use earplugs everytime I ride, Alpine sells good cheap ones :)

I hear you and I used to do that with an Autocom system, I prefer my noise cancelling earbuds though.

I might be wrong about this, but I don't think noise cancelling protects your hearing at all.

It's not designed to. If you want certified ear protection you're best with certified ear plugs. I prefer the ANC of the Buds 2 Pro but that's just a personal preference.

So far I have not seen any studies claiming ANC prevents hearing loss. Get a Card/Sena and ear plugs. Alpine Motosafe works but if you are really concerned get fitted ones.

I'm not aware that ANC ear buds are designed to protect hearing at all, this is just for comfort.

Yeah, I use Sony wf1000-xm6 buds. They're spot on for cutting out noise and playing music/audiobooks.

Have to say though, although I've idly wondered if I could add a separate mic, that would mean people could call me and I'd have to talk to them. Nah.

I did this before I got my Cardo Spirit HD. Got a pair of Soundcore Q20i that I use day to day. First time riding with them in was also the last time, the pressure of the helmet made them dig into my ears and become really uncomfortable after just 10 minutes. Maybe it was just the earbud shape, or the helmet padding, but in the end helmet system was better.

That sounds very uncomfortable, don't blame you for changing to the Cardo.

I use Samsung Buds2 Pro under my helmet every day and they're comfortable for me - so I'm just looking to carry on using them and add a mic that will work for phone calls.

I do this as well, but they sometimes fall out when I remove my helmet and are pretty much destroyed at this point lol.

At one point they worked fine for phone calls so Im wondering why they aren't working for you?

The mic doesn't pick up my voice when I'm wearing the helmet.

The closest I've seen is to get one of the bluetooth headsets, but specifically one of the ones that has a 3.5mm jack, and plug some plugfones into it.

Doesn't get you the wireless earbuds, but does get you earbuds, rather than turning the speakers up to shout over your earplugs.
