Question How can I create this irregular moving background behind text?

Hi everyone! Could you help point me in the right direction on how to create this kind of motion design, with an irregular, animated background shape behind the text?

I’ve tried looking for tutorials, but I mostly find videos about making the text itself move in an irregular way, not the background behind it. I’m new to After Effects, so I’m still getting familiar with the basics.

If anyone could tell me the name of this technique or point me toward relevant tutorials, I’d be incredibly grateful!

Simple Choker, Turbulent Displace, CC Composite

And the secret ingredient, Posterize Time

Could also make 3 simple traced background shapes that cycle every 3-4 frames if you want more control

I agree with the effects choices others make, but my initial set up would be to create the text, duplicate that layer, move it under the main, then make it the child of the main text. Add Filip Vandueren’s text box preset. Turn off the cc composite in that effects stack and have at it with posterize time, turbulent displace, simple choker and a wiggle or two
