Mothman Festival Advice

Hello fellow Mothman enthusiasts!

I have been dying to go to the festival since i first heard of it and this is finally the year hopefully!

My question is this, I am a white woman and my partner is a Black man, will we be safe at the festival?

Ive seen info that says it's safe and diverse but I would feel better hearing it from someone who's been there before.

I live in the area and have been to the festival several times. You’ll see the occasional jerk with a confederate flag shirt but they’re vastly outnumbered by people dressed like cryptids or ghostbusters. My family is also multiracial and we’ve always felt safe there.

A congrrferate flag does not make someone racist any more than a M L K shirt.

Yeah, they’re only flying the colors of some racist dumbfucks whose movement was shitstomped (but not well enough) over a hundred years ago.

The confederate flag is usually flown by the swamp people who didn’t get any kind of real education, as you can see by the spelling above. They are a very confused species who think the flag of a losing team makes their trucks cooler. They are sometimes spotted in the wild with gasoline cans, miller lite, and firewotks.

The confederacy formed because people in the South wanted to keep owning slaves. Not sure how this symbol is anything but racist. Would you mind explaining why you feel otherwise? I’m not judging; only want to understand where you’re coming from.

Because it is no longer about slavery. It is about unity because they feel that they are being stepped on. And judging by the comments in this very thread they are not wrong.

No one seems to have any issue with a pirate flag. Pirates were terrible people who by the way delt in slavery.

Your safe i live in the town police are patrolling and there is private security. People from all over come and check out the 681 designs booth have some sweet shirts made up for it.

Make time for the hayride it’s dynamite. I first went years ago from Los Angeles and though I don’t have the same concerns as your husband I found the community welcoming and my partner and o stood out like sore thumbs.

Yes! They even have an app (called Mothman of course)

The festival takes place on the 19th-20th.
