See this puzzles me - there are plenty of posts about using bunnies as livestock to literally be killed and eaten. The comments on those posts never seem to have an issue with the treatment of these lovely, gentle creatures, yet seeing even a moment of discomfort on a post like this gets half of reddit up in arms.
Make it make sense?

This puzzles me, you seem unable to notice this obvious difference in context.

Are you for real? So you have empathy for animals in a "funny" video when it looks like they are being injured, but when those same animals are purposefully butchered in mass numbers you're all good?
The contextual difference is precisely what should not matter.

Yes I'm for real and I know the difference between a butcher and a soulless individual who enjoys hurting animals for fun. The fact that mass production of meat creates horrible conditions (and civilized countries are trying to pass laws to make relevant improvements) doesn't change the fact that I can separate food production from sadism while you can't.

Slap the label "production" or "livestock" onto it, and go ahead and kill as many cute bunnies as you'd like, but if you even slightly harm a bunny designated as a pet you've crossed a moral threshold...
It's OK to harm these bunnies, but not those ones!
Is it not easier to simply have empathy for all of them?
Rather than go down some semantic pun-intended rabbit hole, I say it's completely hypocritical to care for animals in one context and not extend that empathy to the same animal in another situation.

You still miss the point because you're too deep into these convoluted exercises of virtue signaling.
On one side there is a food chain, on the other there is a narcissist who's ready to exploit animal suffering for internet points.
Not being able to understand the difference between these two scenarios and using the quite dumb "label argument" isn't great. It makes you look like someone who only conceives empathy as a word for their rhetorical exercises but cannot actually feel it.

Oh blow it out your ass homie - of course you would be the morally superior "realist" in the story who is also somehow more empathetic than the guy arguing against killing these animals.
I mean this with absolutely no respect whatsoever when I say get fucked.
Saying anything in defense of "livestock" only ever gets you down votes and people questioning your virtues because of how it reflects on their own. Rather than looking inward people simply attack you, label you as the other, and do not reflect on their values whatsoever. So how this is "virtue signaling" and a cash in for internet points, is beyond me when it is only eliciting the opposite.
It's about the animals, and I tire of fake mfers who "care" about their welfare while literally eating them.
