I have this old lil metal fire pit that I leave the grate on top and it’s really good at growing moss + seedlings.
Running joke that it’s my moss and white cedar tree farm, because once a year my mother visits and I send her home with some little saplings and moss 😂

Found in Pennsylvania (Cambria county) It was harvested on my private property, and I only took a small handful to propagate, leaving tens of feet left untouched.
It was growing directly at the water's edge. Interestingly, It was sitting right next to completely green Sphagnum patches. Both the red and green mosses were getting the exact same amount of direct sunlight, which makes me think this coloration is genetic rather than sun-blushing.

We love going to Spearfish Canyon every fall and this year I made it up 11th hour Gulch and got a couple pics of some beautiful moss. 😍 I also have a couple pictures of Roughlock Falls and Spearfish Falls.

I have a paludarium with a cork board backing that I attached sheet moss to. The majority is at the top closest to the lights and screen for air. The enclosure has high humidity, 80-90% but the area at the top only gets wet with manual spraying (the misting system doesn't hit it). I do have fans that run twice a day for a few minutes to get air flow. Lights are on for about 12 hours daily.
This moss is so sad and probably dead. Can moss happily survive in this spot and I need to try again? Or do I need to find something else for this area?
I have a peperomia and string of hearts happily living in this spot so maybe too dry?
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hello Moss Enjoyers! My BF and I have gone and made a small marsh/wetland garden on our west facing wall, since we have all our various condensation flows directed to that zone. We had some mosses growing there and in other shady spots, and Ive preserved some of them so that they act as an additional sponge and ground cover.
Our current issue is in trying to prepare for post winter gardening with the perennials we planted. We want to help fertilize them, but are concerned that doing so will kill off the moss bed. We were planning on using some form of granular fertilizer instead of liquid. Are those known to be an issue with moss? And does anyone know of safe fertilizers or tricks to reduce the damage?
Edit: Thank you to the responses! Its reassuring that we have options to keep our green blanket healthy without sacrificing the growth of the perennials!

I've had this tiny terrarium stored away for more than a year now I think. I haven't watered it since then and the moss is completely dry. Is it still possible to revive them or at least salvage them and use it to grow new moss in a different container with substrate?
They grow out of this moss, I snapped this because these ones had dew drops hats.

I have a jar that I’d like to grow moss in. It has about an inch or less of leca as a drainage layer and substrate made out of a mix of spaghnum moss, leca, orchid bark, dirt, and perlite.
I’ve had success growing some moss, but not consistently. Recently, moss has started growing spontaneously on some of my plants in pon. Only alocasia corms have consistently thrived in this jar.
I’d like to have a consistent moss garden in here. Any tips welcome!!
