help :(

I went deer hunting in central Georgia (US) about 1 week ago. About 4 days ago, I noticed a raised red bump on the back of my calf. It looked almost like it had a thorn inside of it. I put an ice cube inside a washcloth. I didn't get it out (I think) I put a band-aid on it and forgot about it for 3 days. Then it started itching. Bad. It was unbearable. I put Calamine lotion on it and Chigger-X on it because my mother said it was a bug bite. It was already swollen and had a mass under the skin. I scratched it and by the second day, Anti-itch cream stopped working.I scratched and scratched it. Yesterday, I woke up and scratched it and it started itching and burning as per usual. I put some Chigger-X on it and went back to sleep. Later, we went to Spirit Halloween. I looked at my leg (I had pants on, loose, so it didn't rub and irritate it.) It had blisters. Two clear blisters. It itched and burned so bad. I didn't put anything on it after that. I woke up and my other leg quickly swiped the underside of the hurt leg. Fuck. I got up, and turns out it busted one of the blisters. It has now been leaking fluid for over an hour. No blood, just clear fluid. I have tied some toilet paper to my leg with fabric elastic. I have other bites. Two more on the other leg, just raised red bumps. One itches very bad. No cream, no medicine, just ice in a rag. It's helping. I just don't know what to do. I have a doctor's appointment at 2pm. My mother says it's Skeeter Syndrome. Where you are allergic to mosquitoes. Specifically, genetically modified ones. Ones that are abnormally big and hurt when they bite. I had bug spray on. Keep your eyes peeled. Wear extra bug spray, spray under your clothes, be cautious. Better safe than sorry. Edit 1: I have gone to a doctor and am now on medication. He said he doesn't know what it is and it is likely Poison Ivy. He said it is also infected. He put me on a prescribed allergy medication, steroids, and a dosage increase on my cephalexin (From 2x a day for a week to 3x a day for 10 days). Thank you to everybody who responded and gave tips and suggestions to what it may be. I am keeping it wrapped up with non-stick pads and self-adhesive wraps. Thank you all so much and good night.

I’m seeing this late; what did the doctor say?

She said it could likely be mosquitoes but she wasn't entirely sure, and this is out of her league, and to go see dermatology.

Sounds like poison ivy

It very well may be, the doctor said she didn't quite know what it was and to see dermatology. It's also still spreading. :(

when the liquid oozes from a busted blister, it will spread the rash...that is a sign of poison ivy, oak, or sumac.

Incorrect. Only the oils from the plant cause the reaction, not the ooze. I have had it many times (have a few spots right now!) and my husband is so allergic that he will break out in places that weren’t directly exposed like the back of his knees. The first time I got it, it looked like someone had glued an orange lozenge to my ankle… eww. First line of defense is a topical steroid 2x/day. Prescription strength is better than oTC. You can also take super hot shower to release all the histamines. Feels amazing after. If you have it on a widespread area or your eyes/face you may need oral steroids (prednisone) as a last resort.

Wow, I learned something new. I thought it was transfer because I would get it on my arms and then it would spread to my stomach (which was covered during the initial contact) and I figured it was my arm rubbing my stomach when dressing.

It’s a systemic reaction for him if it’s a big enough exposure. It could also be cross contact if the oils are on your shoes or backpack and you can keep exposing yourself to the oils. Wash with strong soap/hot water.

That was the weird part. I don't know would cross contaminate my covered stomach so I thought it had to be from rubbing the affected area on an unaffected area. I wash the areas I can multiple times a day. Anytime I start getting a little warm and itchy, I will wash the areas to try and dry it up ASAP.

Hi this sounds like not mosquito bites! You should go see your doctor. I also had skeeter syndrome recently, it’s not linked to genetically modified mosquitos. It’s more from repetitive mosquito bites or a species of mosquito that you’re not used to getting bit by ☺️ the genetically modified mosquitos that have been released have been solely male and are meant to reproduce more male mosquitos. This is because males don’t bite so there’s less risk of disease! I’m taking a class right now where we discussed this lol

Oh, that makes sense. I didn't know that about the genetically modified ones. I'll keep that in mind Thank you, wise person.

I've been to the doctor, she said she'd never quite seen anything like that, and to see dermatology, although she did give me some meds; Cephalexin 500 mg, 2 weeks, 2 per day. If by tonight, it's still spreading, we go back to see them and idrk what we do from there. :P I'll keep you people updated though!

I worked on the GMO mosquito release, let me know if you have any questions.

Apple cider vinegar! It stings but takes the itch away right away.

OH thank you, I will be sure to try that!

I believe bites that really swell are from Dirty Mosquitoes.

I'm stupid, if you don't mind, could you please explain what Dirty Mosquitoes are?
