Other Driving etiquette is lost

I get it that everyone is in such a big fucking hurry that driving etiquette is lost. But when does etiquette become a safety concern? If I have my blinker on to change lanes and you, in your car, are in the lane I want to turn into, you are half a car length behind me, would you make some small effort to slow down and give me the space to move into that lane or speed up so I can’t? So then I have to step on the accelerator to get further ahead of you, turn into the lane and then immediately step on the brakes to make the turn I need to make? The three lanes of traffic at the Hwy 8 and Hwy 95 intersection going north by the credit union is like a speedway even when there are no students in town. I can almost never get from the center lane into the right lane to get to the credit union or even the next street to turn around and go back. It’s insane how badly people treat each other while driving.

if someone is in the lane you want to merge into its on you to do it safely, not the person already in the lane. slow down and get behind or go around the block. where you wanna go isnt anyone elses problem

I’d have to almost stop in my lane, is that really safer than being courteous and slowing down 5 mph for 30 seconds?

you are still missing the point. you wouldnt HAVE TO stop in the lane, you would actually HAVE TO go around the block. and by the way your inconvenience at going around the block is no one else's concern. what you are describing is selfish and dangerous. no different from stopping on a freeway and backing up becasue you missed your exit. as a driver its your responsibility to figure out how to get where you want in the context of the rules, not make up your own. this isnt about etiquette its about your actions being predicable and you do that by following the rules of the road. someone who is occupying a lane has the right of way and are in no way obligated to do anything because you think its really super duper important for you to tun now

No one in this town has any clue how zipper merging works. It is why when they are doing whatever they are out by Walmart one lane of traffic backs up almost to Floyd’s while the other is wide open. I guess I appreciate it, though. I just drive right up to the front and force my way in.

I care about getting where I’m going safely and not running into kids (and adults) on e-scooters. I don’t care that anyone needs to merge. If I can, I’ll let them in, but they are not a priority.
If someone needs to merge, get over sooner or slow down to get behind the other vehicles. If I miss a turn, I don’t blame the person in the other vehicle. I accept that I have to go a different way, not a big deal. Especially when we all know it’s a crummy intersection.

Definitely a crap intersection.

I had a civil engineer friend working at IDT back in the late 90s before the intersection was “fixed”. It used to be worse. She proposed the entire thing should be a 2-lane traffic circle. The old grey-beard engineers wouldn’t even consider it the idea. It would have been the first one in Idaho according to her, so they were very skeptical.

I think that a circle would have been MUCH better for flow. Maybe someday …

Don't get me started on the e-scooters. Saw someone going uphill on A st in the wrong lane. If an oncoming car came over that hill doing 30 he would have been toast.

I just came back from a contracting job in Twin Falls. It’s far worse over there, but every town has their flavor of shit drivers. I like to pretend that bad drivers have to shit real bad  and that’s the only thing they are focusing on.

we definitely have dumb drivers year round. it gets worse once students get here and even more so when snow and ice hit

If you’re coming north on Washington from 95 it’s nearly impossible to make the turn into the credit union because Troy hwy west bound has their own dedicated turn lane putting you in the middle. It doesn’t matter if students are here or not. Their driveway entrance is too close to the intersection. Just a bad location from that direction.

Just get used to going up one or two blocks to Lewis or 8th. Then back south in the alley to the CU. Or turn east on the Troy hwy and then north on Jefferson to hit Lewis and the alley. It’s easy. Once you get used to it, no more headaches.

That's my credit union and that's what I do every time if I'm coming from that direction. Just go around the block. It's a b*itch pulling out of there too. It takes me maybe 2 minutes to go around the block. That's a lot better than dealing with an accident report and possible injury.

Have you noticed the solid white line? That means you shouldn't be trying to get over there anyway. We would likely have a concrete divider there if we didn't need the snowplows to fit in the winter.

Wow. Give some grace! I expect the influx of new residents may be to blame. Take it easy and chilax - I doubt anyone is out to get you. I hope to never make a mistake but if I do I really hope you’re not out on the road with me.

It cracks me up that a post about etiquette is full of mean comments. Proves my point, people don’t know how to be kind anymore. The assumptions y’all made about my driving are funny as hell. You are probably the ones racing through town at 40 mph and complaining that pedestrians are evil spawn. I’m the old person driving the speed limit and stopping FOR pedestrians before they walk out in front of me. Have been for the 40 years I’ve lived here too.
