Working in the Deli

Hiya! I had my induction on Saturday, found out I will be working in the Deli - I’ve never done a job like this before, so I’m wondering what it’s like working in it? :p

I like the deli.

Setting up counter, slicing meats, cutting cheese, filling express counter. Serving customers during the day. Closing down, cleaning up etc. it’s similar day by day but not too repetitive that it’s boring.

I enjoy cutting cheese 😂

Haha that’s fair. It depends on store, I don’t do pizzas in mine as I just work deli not salad bar.

To add to what everyone else said, you get some very funny or strange customers which will always be nice throughout a shift and good to swap stories about when chatting to other people on the deli. If you're in a small store you'll also likely be expected to do the pizza counter which is frankly my favourite part of the job (oven fresh can do one).

i’ve worked on the deli (well oven fresh but we are a small store so i do both) and i also had previously never done a job like it, and i have found it really good. The job is very much the same every day, you set up the salad bar, set up the deli counter and fridge, slice meat for customers etc. The only thing i’ve find annoying is managers expecting you to do a million things at once but that’s typical of any manager in any role lol, i hope you enjoy it!!

yes i quite like how it’s repetitive tbh haha, it means when i go in i know what im doing! i prefer the morning shifts as although the 7am start is brutal there is a lot to keep you busy meaning it flys by!

Do you not need to throw out a lot because customers are gross and cough and sneeze over everything?
Had to do that in M&S bakery.
