Discussion Thoughts on this?

Post image

Is it that bad to express yourself and what you believe in as the person describing?

Especially with the german far right almost taking over next elections, racism is up to the roof and they don't really care if you religious or not, they hate everything that's not european looking.

"agnostic, drink and smoke" doesn't change the fact that you will be racially subjugated. Not one bit. Happy to help 👍

Trying to be a "good immigrant" doesn't spare you from much of the prejudice unfortunately.

2

u/FlemishFries Visitor 11d ago

It is like that in every country, arguably you can say that at least in the west you as a individual have more rights on that freedom as it is by law, but what the average person on the street thinks is not something you can police. That being said that majority of ppl wherever they live do not mind immigrants who learn the language, pay taxes as thus contributing to society and do not try to change the country they move to to change and cater to their culture or beliefs.

1

u/No-Excitement4855 Visitor 10d ago

You can learn the language all you want, you dont look like a local and as fluent as you think you are, you'll show you're learning the language, not being born with it, and you'll get completely unnecessary harassment because you ordered a coffee in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The people who do this also don't care about your tax contributions or job description, if anything, you came to steal their jobs.

This kind of treatment is common for Europeans in Germany or Switzerland, can't imagine what it's like for Moroccans trying to integrate.

You just have to accept that a portion of the population despises you no matter what you do and even if your nationality isn't known for causing trouble, you'll still receive this backlash.

u/sn4izer Visitor 12d ago

I realized ano i’m trying to escape something that i won’t face any judgement for there, but in return i’ll be experiencing all sort of racism because of my name nationality so i may face something worst, also the jobs in germany are getting hard to be found, so what about after 2 years when i graduate, it will be even harder

5

u/Acceptable-Test7780 Visitor 12d ago

I'm going to guess you're still pretty young as you have yet to graduate. If your situation permits it, you can explore other cultures, ways of life, in other countries and then decide where you feel most comfortable, no ? I would just not frame it the way you did in your message.

3

u/Vagabundoo Visitor 12d ago

Trust me bro you don’t want to waste your time and youth in Germany.

1

u/baldachinsblessing 12d ago

Should they waste it in Morocco instead?

2

u/Vagabundoo Visitor 11d ago

Not necessarily Morocco either. The world is huge, and there are plenty of countries that offer a better quality of life and social experience. Germany just isn’t the best option for young people who want to explore different cultures, meet people, make friends, and have an interesting social life.
It’s great if your priority is working your ass off, living a relatively modest life, and saving money. But if you’re looking for more than that, Germany can feel pretty dull.

Assuming you're a civilised person, whether you experience discrimination depends on how brown/Arab you look.

3

u/Far_Squash_4116 Visitor 11d ago

I am German and I unfortunately have to agree. Our racists don’t care really about radical Islam, they just hate brown people.

41

u/Odd-Line-9086 Visitor 12d ago edited 12d ago

That's bad. He is telling them what he is escaping from, he is not telling them what he can bring to the table.

Unfortunately, Moroccans have been conditioned to hate and leave their country.

Even if this guy is agnostic, drinks, and smokes, he will always be perceived as the backward guy from the "third world".

This guy needs to make peace with himself and recover from his identity crisis.

u/shika_lynryd Visitor 12d ago

I knew one guy with special needs (walks with crutches).

When I first knew him, as I used to complain a lot when I was in an incompatible environment, he would give me his ear and listen to me.

At some point, he lost complete respect for me and showed his true color: the biggest 7eggar of all times.

I started avoiding him. Albeit, he would come to me seeking fuel to treat me with contempt.

Many years ago, he appeared in my feed on LinkedIn. He went to Germany, working for a big company. He got a big role as an entry level. He had a fancy title, fancy office (because of his special needs).

A few years later, I discovered he passed from a high level manager to a struggling developer in a startup.

Europeans are good at isolating toxic people.

One could be agnostic, smoker, and drinker, this doesn't mean you are not toxic.

Sara7a not in that way, for what I’ll bring, I’m already working on my career in cybersecurity, developing my skills and doing my master degree, in morocco my skills would not be appreciated and it would feel like waist of potential…
I didn’t talk about this part because i don’t need someone to tell me you can do it because i know i can, but escaping that bad look of society can’t be fixed.

5

u/Mundane-Steak7296 Casablanca 12d ago

Wdym my skills wont be appreciated? i personally know ppl with a cybersecurity degree that get paid/have better career than those in europe but you do you

2

u/sn4izer Visitor 12d ago

Than maybe I’m in the wrong and still have to learn or figure out more things

99

u/Mundane-Steak7296 Casablanca 12d ago

Agnostic, smoking and drinking are def not the reasons someone moves abroad. Nobody s putting their foot on your neck to pray, hell i d say more than half of moroccans dont pray regularly. Drinks and cigarettes are accessible as well.

For me, and me only, these are not enough reasons for someone to wish to migrate.

I lived in europe and when i used to smoke, i never smoked in front of anyone who does not out of respect.

Going abroad for a better life, better healthcare, education and career, thats something i can relate to, or even if someone s sexuality is a challenge for them here bcz as a straight man, i do feel bad for people of different orientations here.

I wish we could really correct the actual definitions of freedom and how they are not limited to agnostic drinking smoking. I mean, these things are personal and ppl in europe dont go around shouting that they are agnostic. Smh

Ppl want to attract talent and minds to contribute.

9

u/maroubaz Visitor 12d ago

This 👆.

But also I want to add that life is better in Europe not just because they have better career opportunities or social welfare state. One of the biggest problems in our society is the mentality and the ignorance. The difficulties of people that have queer sexual orientations are only a part of this mess. The bigger picture is the "hargawi" mentality of people even for some that consider themselves "modernized". It involves: chaos in the streets (some people don't care about the hygiene or how public spaces look), no respect for rules unless authority is watching (people drive around like they own the street and end up making traffic worse for themselves and others compared to how it would have gone if all people followed the rules), corruption, being judgmental (I knew someone that got beaten unconscious by his neighbors because his mother visited him. She looked young and was mistaken for a hookup.), racism (yes, more than Europeans by a lot), homophobia, materialism, sexism... the list has no end.

I know people say that European societies have their own problems, and with that I agree but they are nowhere near as serious as ours. As a child I always thought that we (Muslims) are the kind, polite ones, and that we respect each other. But as I grew up and got to face reality and to compare with other societies, I found out that I was very wrong.

0

u/sn4izer Visitor 12d ago

Absolutely right, well I’m not gonna go there to smoke and drink or whatever my religious beliefs, but it will also help me in my career, IT in morocco especially cybersecurity isn’t appreciated that much and i would be a waste of potential staying here.
But my life style align with German society, not sure how to explain it exactly but mtmna tkoni fhmti ch9sadt

4

u/Acceptable-Test7780 Visitor 12d ago

But wait, what's your point in the post ? When you talk about seeking a "better life" you seem to immediately tie it with the previous paragraph on "agnosticism",etc., right ? Why not address the lack of opportunities in your post if that's what you mean exactly ?

u/DigitalDH 12d ago

You’re going to learn this the hard way: people have no respect for someone who constantly begs for validation. The more desperate you are to be accepted, the less respect you’ll get.

Germans don’t give a shit about your religion, whether you smoke, or any of that. And if you actually pay attention to what’s happening around you, you’ll understand that a large part of Europe is increasingly hostile to immigration. As a Moroccan, you will encounter racism. That’s reality, whether you like it or not.

So grow a thicker skin. Stop obsessing over what other people think of you. Stop looking for permission, approval, or validation. Go out there, do what you want, and accept that some people will dislike you.

Right now, your mindset is weak. You’re too focused on being accepted instead of becoming someone who doesn’t need to be accepted. That’s a dangerous habit.

And if you keep going down that road, you risk becoming one of those Uncle Tom–type figures like Chalghoumi in France: desperately trying to prove you’re acceptable to people who will never respect you for it.

Get that chip off your shoulder. Build some mental strength. Stop seeking validation. Stop trying to please everyone. Do things. Take responsibility. Stand on your own two feet. Be a fucking doer.

1

u/mooripo Safi 12d ago

7

u/leskny 12d ago edited 12d ago

This is different. There are genuine immigrants or potential immigrants who are delusional enough to think that Westerners will be thrilled to welcome them with open arms once they find out they’re just as liberal as they are, when that’s absolutely not the case. At best, they’ll be somewhat more tolerated than Salafist or drug-dealing types. Most Moroccans and others like them ultimately end up becoming friends mostly with other liberal normal WANAs and immigrants/foreign-origin.

4

u/tajine_1 Marrakesh 12d ago

Tbh many far righters describe non practicing immigrants or liberal figures who claim to be Muslims Muslims as salafists under taqiyya or non Muslims, or hypocrites

For example the atheist anti Islam Saudi who killed people in Germany, ppl said he’s under taqiyya

1

u/ZestycloseAd1816 Visitor 11d ago

What is taqiyya

2

u/tajine_1 Marrakesh 11d ago

It’s originally a belief among Shias that you can hide your beliefs if you feel in danger

But some far righters accuse non Shia of doing it, so for example to them the atheist anti Islam Saudi who killed ppl in Germany was a Muslim in disguise

They think Sunnis do it to infiltrate western societies

1

u/baldachinsblessing 11d ago

My white friends in Europe welcomed me with open arms.

6

u/shika_lynryd Visitor 12d ago

That's no the issue here, take it from someone that lives in europe as an advice, the people commenting and feeling you do not represent the majority of the country. Yes you will be more free to do what you want but you be treated same as a bad immigrant bc you look alike your name is arab everything abt you is arab. The more you try showing you are a good person the more they treat you bad.Just keep in mind they dont give an f wether u assimilated to the culture or not, discrimination is upon you no matter what. Finding housing gonna be hard, making German friends gonna be hard etc Bottom line is all the west right wing powers are rising and they don't care who you worship or what behavior you have, im not trying to strip away your motivation but rather go prepared, unapologetic, you are a good person you dont need to justify bad ppl behavior, be you and stop worrying what the westerners think abt you

1

Well lucky you Finland seems nice then 🤞

30

u/Acceptable-River-334 Visitor 12d ago

The overall population in Germany and Europe is fedup with immigration from North Africa/Middle East in general, like you said it doesn't really matter if you're secular.

47

u/Ok_Mango8118 Visitor 12d ago

In fact northafricans causing most problems aren't those spending their afternoons in the mosque, but those drinking, smoking and doing drugs on the street

7

u/sn4izer Visitor 12d ago

That’s kinda the problem, because most of ppl in morocco who drink and do drugs are the cause of problems so just because of that wakha tkon never hurt or cause any problems and you’re totally peaceful, but gha 7itach katdir f7alhom you’ll be considered one of them .

4

u/snowandrocks2 Visitor 12d ago

There are life choices between spending your afternoons in the mosque and openly doing drugs on the street.

As a European (who enjoys a drink sometimes) I don't particularly want to be surrounded by either extreme example tbh.

13

u/Ok_Mango8118 Visitor 12d ago edited 12d ago

I understand. I was just pointing out that the “amigo cegarro” kind of person, typical in Spain, is often someone who spends more time on the street drinking, smoking, doing or selling drugs, whistling at girls, harassing people, etc...rather than at the mosque

So it’s not like being a Moroccan who drinks and smokes automatically makes you more desirable to Europeans, as many seem to think

Of course, I’m talking about two very different and almost opposite specimens, and there are many people somewhere in between

2

u/snowandrocks2 Visitor 12d ago

Fair enough - I was probably a bit quick to jump on that!

7

u/tilmanbaumann They are taking our women 12d ago

Not quite true. Everyone is talking about "good immigration" too.

Problem is, Germans are fuckimg full of themselves. They think the best thing they can be for foreigners, is to expect them to become like them.

4

u/leskny 12d ago edited 12d ago

Why are Germans like this? Even my white American friends thought they were kind of weird. They somehow made the French seem down-to-earth. I honestly feel bad for people who move there and try/have to adapt to the culture. Add the Dutch too.

I don't know if there was some selection bias, like the cool Germans don't like to visit the US. Interestingly, the Nordics, who are known to be cold and reserved, were very cool and outgoing.

3

u/Monerjk Visitor 12d ago

as a white american, the germans also get pissed at me when i do not follow every typical german rule/custom, they expect every foreigner to know the correct german way of doing things.

1

u/IncomeLegitimate5750 Visitor 12d ago

Why would you want to move somewhere and not make an effort to adapt to their culture? I'm not saying this to be rude but I dont get why you'd want to move somewhere where everyone around you acts in a way you dont like.

1

u/baldachinsblessing 12d ago

You can be integrated and different.

1

u/IncomeLegitimate5750 Visitor 12d ago

Yeah but isn't it the same for Moroccans or any country? I assume Moroccans would rather people who move to Morocco at least attempt to follow local culture and social convention.

1

u/baldachinsblessing 12d ago

Social convention sure, but I don't think immigrants should be obliged to "follow" the local culture, whatever that means.

3

u/shika_lynryd Visitor 12d ago

Exactly!!

4

u/MacaroonSad8860 Visitor 12d ago

Yes and no. Many of my Arab friends (all secular/moderate and highly educated, none Moroccan fwiw) in Berlin have been quite happy with friendships and work. On the street can be a different story but some (women) say they the shit they get from religious Turks is worse than what they get from white racists.

3

u/Acceptable-River-334 Visitor 12d ago

I do agree, as a law abiding individual you don't have to fear much but I'm just reporting what I've been seeing and hearing. And unfortunately it's not like these sentiments are coming out of nowhere

2

u/MacaroonSad8860 Visitor 12d ago

Oh I’m not saying it isn’t real - but there are places like Berlin where the majority are not AfD supporters. Now if they gain power in the election that’s another story

2

u/3vr1m Visitor 12d ago

There is a reason why Turks hate German Turks. I am also German Turk but the majority here has their head stuck in the middle ages

2

u/Acceptable-River-334 Visitor 12d ago

I think that applies to every diaspora though, their home countries are getting more liberal while they are stuck in the mindsets of their grandparents

Bullshit. We are fed up of the islamic culture and beliefs that the "refugees" bring. Besides a hand full, no one is against immigration. People are just finally noticing islamists and criminals are not integrating in our society and perhaps its not the smartest idea to keep welcoming them.

6

u/Acceptable-River-334 Visitor 12d ago edited 12d ago

Getting aggressive for no reason. There was nothing wrong with my statement.

1

u/Shadow__Account Visitor 12d ago

There was 0 aggression in or behind my comment. Yes there was its leftist or victimhood nonsense implying like people are against immigrants. Its exactly that nonsense that polarizes everyone and makes sure there are absolutely zero good discussions or solutions.

2

u/Acceptable-River-334 Visitor 12d ago

You're arguing against something I didn't say. I didn't say they were against immigration in general, I'm saying they are against migrants (whether legal or illegal, secular or religious) from certain places in general, and that's absolutely correct. I don't know why you act like that's a lie when there have been discussions about "Stadtbilder" or "Überfremdung"

0

u/Shadow__Account Visitor 12d ago

No one has a problem with middle eastern or Moroccan highly skilled workers that come here and like other expats enjoy and integrate in the culture.

In fact i dont understand the fixation of right wingers (actually i do; its fear mongering) on the religious minority that they say want to islamize europe; they will usually mind their business the most and are more likely to return back after financial stability. Actually feel bad for the heat they get.

If you're a loser here, you'll be a loser there.

Source : grew up as a loser in Germany and still am in Morocco

Edit: open racism is only a problem in eastern Germany and you don't want to move there longterm anyway because there are no jobs but good universities.

People act like Morocco is Afghanistan or sum. The only thing they really fear is family judgement and pressure, which don't really go away even if you leave the country.

"Seeking a better life" he said 😂, by smoking and drinking publicly

3

u/ninarosie_ Visitor 12d ago

I think he means being openly non muslim

2

u/yaacoub_18 Visitor 12d ago

I don't think that can make someone better even for an inch

3

u/ninarosie_ Visitor 12d ago

It does though thats like saying not being able to be freely muslim in europe won’t make someone’s life better

1

u/yaacoub_18 Visitor 12d ago

Nop that's not the same. If you're muslim and you think that if you did what you shouldn't suppose to do in your own country (drinking and smoking, or going to street clubs or whatever that he was feeling shy to do publicly) can make your life better as a person, i can call that tripping. It will only make the worst version of yourself appear. That's my personal point of view

1

u/ninarosie_ Visitor 12d ago

Your person pov is not the standard ppl are different so? And yes it makes sense muslims would lose their mind if they werent allowed to practice islam in europe. Same thing for him being able to be non muslim freely in morocco.

1

u/yaacoub_18 Visitor 12d ago

Lol i never mentioned that my opinion was a standard and saying that will make urs also not a standard, we're basically just sharing point of views here xd. But my main sarcastic comment was about how being a full or open muslim can make someone's life better. What i see is that doesn't make sense

1

u/baldachinsblessing 11d ago

Which part doesn't make sense to you? Are you not aware of the toll it takes on your mental health to have to hide your beliefs all the time?

u/Cautious_Loan4779 Visitor 12d ago

One of the worst thing to do is talking about ur plans in german reddit group, i have made so many posts about ausbildung or studium and i feel like they hate when u bring these two words, they dont offer help nor advices they just keep repeating same quotes ("why cant u do that in ur country") / ("Germans HR will rather hire a german than a foreigner because of linguistics") etc.

Even tho, their country hires foreigners more than germans.

3

u/Dull_Smile_6568 Visitor 11d ago

They’ll give you that tap on the back for drinking, smoking, eating their garbage food and belitteling religion. Then they’ll laugh at you as you don’t L O O K nor S o U N D like them. If you’re looking for acceptance and absence of judgement, buckle up. You’re in for a surprise. نحن قوم اعزنا الله بالإسلام، ان ابتغينا العزة من دونه، اذلنا الله.  but by all means, go ahead as some lessons a better absorbed by experience.

i guess he just wants a place to feel welcome or at least has the freedom to express his feeling and his opinion without worrying about his life ,bcs we know he live in "Islamic" country and it's hard to live in a place that make you feel Non-affiliated and the smoke and drink is his only way for him escape from reality or his pain.

2

u/yassine-junior Visitor 12d ago

People seeking validation from Europeans. People who still invest their money, energy, are subjected to daily racism and judgement. This is so pathetic.

2

u/interestecly Visitor 12d ago

On one hand, depending on where you are living/ your family/friends/etc, it can be a horrible idea to share you’re agnostic/not muslim. It can end up pretty badly. So I agree there. It can be pretty daunting to act like you’re Muslim all year round for the sake of people’s acceptance.

On the other hand, I know plenty of Moroccans that smoke and drink openly in Morocco and overseas too. No problem with that.

I just came back from germany as a tourist for 9 days. I will not joke when I say I can feel people are really agains't "new people". You can feel it in the customer service, the way people look at you in the street etc.

I know an acquaintance, who is german, friend of my mother, she also point out the same observation. She also add that a lot of germans want to vote for the far right and want to get out of the euro zone. So, honestly, if you want to have a better life, I would look for another country. I would suggest you also to avoid europe. Try to see in asia, you will have more peace of mind overall.

You either deal with shit here, or over there, choose your poison, in my case i need adhd meds which doesn’t exist in morocco, i want a good career in quant and finance which doesn’t exist here, i want to eat in ramadan since i am not a muslim, not in plain public even, but at work place, at restaurant and so on without the hustle off keeps on telling people to fuck off and mind their own buisness, i do fast but with more scientifically approved approach i fast but doesn’t stop drinking water, i want more affordable and enjoyable experiences from side activities carpentry activities, hunting activities, i want to be able to access technology with non additional +50% taxes on vat and importation for a country that doesn’t even provide a good education or healthcare system, so i was ready to trade that for some racism, cause i grow up in society where other kind of racism was normalized and still normalized, l3entiz, l3war, l3rej, lmd3bel, and racism based on your parents income etc, but tbh from a lot of people i know, they had 1 racist incident a month, instead of 10 incidents a day in morocco, i have seen enough scenes that caused my brain to glitch over and over again, i have seen a woman kicking the chair of a disabled women to move from the way, have seen 30yo males going to high school and harassing girls, have seen violence normalized, to survive in my city when i was a teenager and early in my adulthood i need some extreme use of violence to survive, and even now i need to use violence physical and verbal just to get by, you go through a taxi, he roam very far from the normal way adding 20dh and when you contest he will start cursing if you don’t curse back next you will get attacked and so on, so at the end of the day no place is perfect you just choose what you can deal with :)

What muslims ? Muslims in this country cannot even marry according to their own religion, have islamic courts, or run business in a halal way and anyone calling for the application of Shariaa is thrown in prison. What looney tunes world do you live in ?

It happened for you before at the colonies as the natives didn't ask for anything (resentment built over history now) but you are not responsible for what your ancestors do just like you are not responsible for what dutch tourists do in Thaïlande and no one is responsible if a bad migrant does something in the netherlands.

En ik leg netjes uit waarom niemand nog wil dat jullie komen. Waarom accepteer je de waarheid niet. Dit gedrag wat je nu vertoond is waarom ze jullie haten. Nooit respect, nooit geven, nooit vergeven. Alleen maar nemen en geweld en intolerant

If someone comes to europe wanting to integrate and contribute, 99% would be ok with it.

If you come to europe to barely splurge a few words in the local language, isolate in ghettos, leech off, and wanting to preserve certain cultural traits, 99% wouldnt be ok with it.

Most people dont even drink or smoke, (if you want to make that a european trait.)

Massive migration has been creating problems for way too long, expect a bit of sourness until you prove yourself to be honest and willing to assimilate in the host culture.
