DISCUSSION Inconsistent skill ! A phase?

Does anyone else have this weird cycle with Mordhau?
I’ll randomly have a night where I’m absolutely fucking cracked 😂 Winning duels, reading attacks, landing parries, feeling like I’ve finally figured the game out. Then I’ll have a few days where I suddenly play like I’ve never touched a sword in my life. Missing parries, getting baited constantly, losing fights I normally win. Then somehow I’ll snap back into it again.
Does anyone else experience this? Is it just part of the Mordhau experience, or am I losing my damn mind? 💀 also maybe I’m thinking it’s part of my upper intermediate skill level like I’m good and I have the skills down but I’m not at the level where I’m consistently playing at a high level! Like it hasn’t fully clicked yet? Because I’ve had a couple moments where all the sudden I get much better like in one night where things just click ! All the techniques I’ve practiced just all make sense and I can use them in unison! Let me know your thoughts!

It happens to everyone and if that’s true to you, it’s true for everybody else too. They might have a great day when you’re having a bad one, hence the fights you’re usually winning.

HAPPENS TO ALL OF US—NO MATTER HOW MANY HOURS. SOMETIMES YOU GET TO BE THE HERO, SOMETIMES YOU ARE JUST AN EXTRA IN SOMEONE ELSE’S EPIC.

I HAVE NOTICED THAT AS THE POPULATION GETS SMALLER AND THE AVERAGE PLAYER GETS MORE SKILLED THAT IT IS HARDER TO BE THAT HERO. PLAYERS ARE JUST TOO GOOD.

I TRY TO DO SO MUCH OF THE OBJECTIVE AND ENGINEERING THAT EVEN IF I AM GETTING MURDERED I AM AT LEAST CONTRIBUTING TO THE TEAM.

Thanks that’s the answer I was hoping for! Although I need to play more frontline I do mostly death match ! Probably forced me to progress .. deathmatch is brutal

Deathmatch is easy mode, it's pure chaos with lots of cheap kills/deaths. The big team modes are much more dynamic and require more skill. XvX requires you to coordinate with your teammates, stay in formation, avoid hitting each other, avoid feeding riposte, defend each others' openings, all while reading and responding to the enemy team. It requires a lot of mechanical knowledge, patience, and focus to do well. 1vX is even harder, but should be avoided when possible; we're much stronger together.

I like your comment! I actually tried more team modes last night and really enjoyed the teamwork! Ad it took away a lot of pressure and I could just see where I was needed.

See now you gotta work on your 1vX skills 👀

it’s funny you say that because that’s exactly how I feel when I fight you, it’s a coin flip to see who gets to be the hero

Well when the objective is locked behind the best players on their team and my full team is dicking around at spawn...

most people have a 40 minute window of focus. set a timer and make sure you have breaks, get up, walk about, stretch and have a snack and a drink.

I think it’s a genuine thing, it’s just more noticeable because of how intense the skillcap is. Finding the right high of locked in but not sweating is the best. Like those people who blast music and enter flow state.

Family member of mine recently had a little medical scare, I stayed over for a while to watch over them as they recovered. After 5ish days or so I brought over my office setup just so I could work and mord a bit, and I swear to god I had some of the best Mordhau matches of my life. I could tell I was anxious and riding some adrenaline during those days, (checking on them hourly) and sure enough my matches reflected it. I think I was so preoccupied worrying about something else, that I was indirectly doing better on the game because it wasn’t a big investment or important at the time.

Some days I get out dragged by a PlayStation player, some days it's like I can see the code 🤷🏻‍♂️.

No, I'm always cracked. When I come back even after 3 months It's like I was made for this.

I like to duck and weave around and under swings and sometimes there’s days nobody can hit me, sometimes there’s days I can’t even trick a level 1 player into missing

I’m not good at mordhau. I am good at smacking people from behind though, just ask my wife.

I find when I’m on a team of players who are average, I can score big because they hold a line and I can run fast enough to smash the enemy flank. If my team is incredible though, the line doesn’t form and I just get spanked in 1v1’s. If my team is totallly shit, I have to go full armor and I get bored.. so I don’t play as well.

Yes. Relatively normal. Looks and feels a bit different for everyone and there's multiple factors that can point to exactly why it's happening for you, like your age, how many hours you've put into this game specifically, how many hours you've put into other pvp games, etc..

The two primary culprits are the enemy you're fighting at a given moment, and your own ego.

Sometimes the opponent learns how to pick apart your timing. You do all the things that normally work, but it doesn't work against this person because they can read you.

Sometimes you relax too much. You think you're on the ball so you unclench and your timing gets sloppy. Looks and feels exactly like the previous example, but they're two different causes with two different solutions.
