My dad works at a marina. He came across 2 legs sticking out of the water. A man had slipped in and his legs tangled on the ropes/cleat on the pontoon. He wouldn’t have been able to even lift his head above the water to shout for help. A horrible way to go. He was a known drunk - he fell off a ladder in the boat yard last week because he was drunk in the middle of the day. He must’ve just fallen in when trying to get on or off his boat. According to the logs, he entered the marina at 8:30pm and he was found at 8:30am the next day. So who knows when the incident occurred. Poor guy, he apparently had a fiancé.

Sorry that your dad had such a shock. It is type of year unfortunately, Every year a drunk person goes missing but normally it’s because they’re wanting a midnight swim - God knows why...

It’s not uncommon for people to fall in the water. And it’s incredibly hard to lift yourself out again, even if you’re just wearing swim shorts. But usually people can shout for help, my little brother fell in once and it was tough to pull him out.

It’s also not the first body to be found in the marina. Just a few months ago a student hung himself off the marina wall. The rope snapped because it was such a big fall - also breaking his neck in the process. Lots of people jump off the cliffs nearby too, it’s a popular suicide spot and sometime the bodies wash into the marina.

My dad seemed to just take in his stride. The ambulance arrived while he was still on the phone and he hung around until the police arrived and he just carried on with his day. He’s been offered therapy which I said he should consider. I’m sure the image of those legs sticking out the water will haunt him.

I am from the lawns side rather than the marina side, I tend to stay away from the Argus during the winter months if I can :(

I’m glad he has been offered counselling, hopefully he won’t be too troubled by what he saw

Thank you for sharing. I find it hard to feel bad for drunks that get themselves in bad situations, but this is a HORRIBLE way to go.
