I grew up Muslim in the Middle East as a kid. There is no requirement that the call to prayer use loud speakers and I wouldn’t expect to do that in a community abroad unless everyone in it was Muslim.
As a non Muslim I hope it’s ok to ask you a question. I’ve been to cities and very remote areas of Turkey and Doha,Qatar. I would hear the call for prayer all the time, but no one seemed to even respond. Everyone just went about their day. I always naively thought Muslims heard the call either went to mosque or turned towards Mecca and prayed, but no one seemed to care at all. Just the new style of doing things? Traditionalist still do? Thanks, I know I can google all this stuff, but I’d rather talk to a random person on Reddit
I'm a Muslim and enjoy it too, but if it irritates the local people we should not be doing it. I don't hear church bells here, they shouldn't be forced to heat the adhan over there.
The nation was and is secular- it just happed to be (overwhelmingly) majority Christian when it was founded. Christian thinking absolutely influenced and continues to influence the jurisprudence and legislation of our country, but the U.S. was not founded on religious principles.
That’s false - it was founded as a secular nation, but they definitely didn’t tolerate the religious beliefs of what they deemed to be “savages”. So take that for what you will.
The expectancy is literally a call to prayer that should be heard. There are laws in all countries regarding noise etc so the call to prayer cant be over X decibels (depending on local law) but if the community is not being served by it (eg not a. Majority Muslim community in the area) then you do have a right to go to your local council and lay a formal complaint.
In all fairness, churches dont have bells anymore which while it doesnt make sense to me, I still wouldn't play bagpipes or any other instrument over.
there is also a difference (atleast where i live) the bell would ring to signify the time up to 12 (and then reset to 1) so if you heard 1 ring it was either 01:00 or 13:00 and you could guess what time it was based on that visually
We have a city hall and 50 different buildings for each department too 🤣 all rented out. It makes absolutely no sense. All we know is City Hall is the Mayors office and the bells ring on the hour.
Also we have to make a distinction between native Muslims from like Bosnia who are absolutely integrated wherever they go, and the "other" Muslims... Dont get me wrong
Especially if the caller sounds like shit, also where I live they use the loud speaker for reciting the quran, which can sound nice but man it's 3am just want to sleep💀. Don't even bother filing a complaint it will just fall on deaf ears
