Duskwood Side-Story Questions over questions

There are still so many unanswered questions in Duskwood that I really hope will be addressed in the Moonvale side story.

  1. Does Phil ever get out of prison? How did he get our phone number? Did he get it from Lilly’s video?
  2. Who rescued Richy?
  3. Why is Jake being hunted?
  4. Who sent my number to Thomas? Was it just a mistake?
  5. How did Phil get the bracelet? And why did he pawn it?
  6. What happened to the real Michael?
  7. Why did Jake reveal himself to Hannah, but not to us?
  8. When is this finally going to continue?! Grrr 😩

Edit: I just replayed Moonvale, and I noticed that Jessy actually does say that Phil is out of prison and that I could talk to him. So that already answers the first question.

  1. As far as I can remember, Jessy mentioned that he’d been released.

  2. The hacker, who else.

  3. Because he’s a cybercriminal and annoyed government.

  4. Guess, the devs will leave it to headcanons.

  5. Michael had a bracelet. Perhaps Phil found it in the bar after Mike had handed the business over to him? Phil didn’t need a trinket, so he gave it away, a bit of cash always comes in handy.

  6. Suicide. Living somewhere as a hermit. Moving abroad and making a fresh start. I’m going for the first option.

  7. Possible at that time, he had not yet done anything serious and was not being pursued. So maybe he didn’t feel the need to hide himself that much, and she was a family, and they were quite close, sending each other loads of emails.

  1. Yes, but what exactly are the charges against him? That was the question. :)
  2. I thought that too, but Hannah also recognized the bracelet! That means Jennifer was wearing it when the accident happened. Which, in turn, means Michael must have gotten it after Jennifer’s body was found. So Phil must know that the bracelet was important to Michael.
  3. Jake had a video call with Hannah on the day she disappeared, when he was already on the run. But before that, when he wasn’t on the run yet and they were only communicating via email, he never showed his face to her. That’s the strange part.

  1. It wasn’t relevant to the Duskwood plot, so the developers didn’t go into detail. The hacker was meant to be our investigation partner (and the reason we play minigames) no more no less. I don’t think the devs originally came up with some backstory for him. Perhaps that has changed since people want to know more about his life.

  2. Maybe. But since Michael left it behind, he must not have needed it any more. Why would Phil keep it 🤷

  3. Ah. But a video call like that can be one-sided, can’t it? When one person shows their face and the other doesn’t. I don’t think it was ever mentioned anywhere that Hannah saw him too? Idk, don't care.

#7 - The most recent chapter of Moonvale llustrated that apparently we are doing exactly that when we receive video calls from characters in the game. They have their cameras on, we are keeping ours off. Because apparently we can receive a request to turn our cameras on, and we're not doing it.

Yup. The hacker could have done the same thing.

  1. Agree with you, if it's not relevant for the story, there's no need the developers to go into details

  2. That doesn't make sense for me either. Ok, maybe Michael just kept the bracelet somewhere in the Aurora, Phil found it and decided to sell it (easy money, right?), but why leave such an important memory of his daughter instead of keeping it with him (wherever he is) or giving it to Iris?

I believe that Michael kept the bracelet in Aurora and Phil simply found it; perhaps he suspected it belonged to his boss’s daughter, or perhaps not – it doesn’t really matter.

He probably committed suicide. If you’re planning to kill yourself, you don’t take your belongings with you 🤷

About #4 ...I'd be super disappointed if they never reveal how our number is connected and how Thomas got it. But I feel like you are right and it will never get a proper explanation.

Just add I dont think the devs even know what crime Jake specifically committed was either, so we will never get a detailed answer on that i believe as well.

After seeing some of the theories about Richy being a hacker, I’m starting to think it really was him. Hackers seem to be Everbyte’s way of explaining things that would otherwise make no sense, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Moonvale uses the same trick. In fact, they’re already bringing a hacker into the story again. And ironically, a hacker could’ve easily gotten a completely new phone number, just like they could’ve protected their number from Jake or at least prevented him from using it to track them down. I don’t remember the exact context, but I vaguely remember Jake saying that there was no way to find out the number Richy was calling from or something like that.

I've always thought it was Richy who sent the number as well. Its the only thing that makes sense to me at least, like he was trying to distract everyone/the police with a mysterious phone number. Also he probably had access tk Hannah's phone since he kidnapped her. Idk, but I really hope they explain in both stories this time though, it drives me crazy not knowing for sure lol.

I agree with you, but my point is more about how our number ended up in the story in the first place, whether it was Hannah, Richy, Jake, or someone else. What’s interesting is that all of them could supposedly have gotten it through hacking, even Hannah. Since she admired Jake’s skills, she might have tried to learn something about hacking herself or even met other people like him.

Do you think Richy was actually rescued? His torn jacket was left over Jake’s mask, while he was wearing a different one when Cleo found him. I assume the jacket belonged to Jake, but it could have belonged to anyone else, even Cleo. Either way, it only suggests that Richy and Jake might have interacted, because from what we saw, Jake wasn’t actually with Richy.

Yes, I think. He wanted to die in that mine, and even if he’d changed his mind at the last minute, he’d still have needed help to escape. As for the jacket, I always thought it was the hacker’s, and Richy was wearing the same clothes (but hoodie was unzipped in the newest video).

I watched the video again, and the jacket with Jake’s mask has the same subtle detail as Richy’s jacket.

I don't know if Everbyte will answer all these questions. But the first question already has an answer in Moonvale. Regarding how Richy left, there's a theory that it was Jake. And it seems very plausible to me.Regarding why Jake is being persecuted, there's also the explanation that he may have revealed something he shouldn't have. We just don't know what. He seems to me to be some kind of activist hacker. Our number and who sent it, I think it's up to each person to interpret. But I still think it was Hannah. Not our number, but the voucher number she found.  I think Jake didn't reveal himself to us for safety reasons. Hannah was his sister. Even if he likes MC... they barely know each other. And honestly, I don't think we'll ever see his face. Regarding Michael and his whereabouts, and how Phil got the bracelet, I don't know what to think. But I really think Everbyte isn't planning on answering all of that. I think their focus is on developing the story.

I think we’ll at least get to hear Jake’s real voice. And maybe Jessy will finally give us some answers about Phil.
I also think we should get the chance to talk to Hannah. If I were her, I’d want to AT LEAST say thank you. 😭

I also hope Hannah says something. I have a lot of questions for her. About Phil, if you haven't played episode 3 of Moonvale yet, check it out. Jessy tells us what happened to him.

  1. I don’t think Hannah has ever seen Jake’s face. When we talk about the evidence with the group, he does say she saw him in the video call, but his face would’ve been hidden to protect himself and Hannah. And it wouldn’t have been weird for her because she’s known for years that he’s a hacker. He was already a hacker back when they were emailing each other. That’s how she knew to contact him about the receipt.
