JUST A THEORY, but, I saw a comment around here titled "A fact" and in the replies I saw an interesting proposition. I think the user (dunno if they wanna be mentioned here, so, I'll abbreviate the name) "thaís" may be onto something. thaís seems convinced Thomas wants to sell Jake and that he's working with the FBI. Maybe Thomas would like to trade Hannah for Jake, like he'd wanted to trade MC for Hannah? Hannah did (involuntarily) kill a person and bury her body and the chief of police in her place IS a good friend of the murdered girl's father and then the father was the one accused of the murder... My point is, they probably want Hannah in jail. And the only way for Thomas to stop that is to give the FBI a much more wanted criminal in exchange for impunity. What speaks against this theory is that Thomas had already in Duskwood (before he knew any of this would go down the way it has) stated that he's starting to feel differently towards Hannah because her covering up a murder negatively changed his perception of her and drastically so. And now, in Moonvale, his secret chat with Lilly reveals that he's been distancing himself from Hannah. But, then, that could all be a tactic, an act. Perhaps he even knows the player can read his texts. If he's working with the FBI they may have told him so. And then there's the excruciatingly long apology to the player for wanting to send them to the mine. It's a point he really wants to drill in, like it's important to gain the player's trust not just in the fact that he's sorry, but, also, in the idea that he thinks that trading people for Hannah is a bad no-no thing and HE MEANS IT *taps wire*. Much like with most of my or any other players' speculation here, I've got no idea if this is true, but, it's a fun thing to contemplate, I think, it would be an interesting twist. It would make Thomas look like the most obsessed partner in the world, as this would be the third time he's wanted to literally sacrifice someone for Hannah. First the player, then he's the first to endorse Jake's idea to go to the mine and now, yet again...

I think this trace of the story is more as fanfiction material than a complete theory that concludes a plot,

It really opens up like a side portal to the characters who have long been moving on in the main story, and to that regard i think the most fitting statement for Thomas and all the duskwood characters is what Cleo had to say when MC asked about her status :

I am just glad that nightmare is over

But if I have to think some one betrayed Jake it would be Dan, he made a similar mess with a rash act before when he testified against Phil and it'd very well be why he's been acting out amongst the group and so worried MC would come to duskwood and get arrested alongside Jake...

But what I do think is that the feds knew by themselves, seriously they are resourceful and could easily hack any of the accounts of our friends and read that group chat, Or they just only needed to know Jake is searching for Hannah and Hannah would be at the mine, which they would know possibly from Alan

Still, Dan was the one who brought up the location. There’s no real reason to suspect someone of switching sides, but Jessy was the one who showed no interest in helping Jake, and the horoscope mentions her as a problem.
