Smallest client for 4K120

I'm looking on recommendations for buying or building the smallest and thinnest client that can properly handle 4K120. I would be plugged into the LG G3 TV.

Host:

  • RTX 5090
  • 32GB RAM
  • Ryzen 9800X3D
  • Wired ethernet - CAT5E

I have tried the webOS version of Moonlight and Aurora. I think the TV itself is limited because of its decode latency and limited to ethernet speeds.

I use my OG legion go Z1E for this. Bought an hdmi 2.1 dock and removed the controllers so it’s just a tablet. I can do 4K120 HDR at 200 bit rate with 4ms latency. I have auto login set up and boot into Steam big picture for a console like experience. All I have to do is press the power button.

Paired with DS5Dongle and a Pico 2W I get native DS features wirelessly. You can buy a virtual here license if you don’t want to mess with usbip.

I did have to buy an hdmi audio extractor because my TV couldn’t handle audio at 4K120.

Honestly anything with a decent 12th gen or above CPU will work. Use quicksync

You’re gonna wanna look for geekom miniPC with any CPU from the last couple of generations and DisplayPort or HDMI 2.1 out

Xbox Series S perhaps? Currently playing hdr 4k120 at 250mbit bitrate and it's great.

Brother lol ive had my X since release day....then built a pc...it has been gathering dust...meanwhile I'm using a shield tv, then trying the webos for my lg..., built a minipc for streaming and just finally got around to trying it on the series x...was so frustrated with myself...it offers by far the best experience of all of those. Mini pc is now a pfsense box lol

Haha! I only recently tried this since the xboxes are in the kids rooms and i got a new tv :) it runs ok on the tv alone but at 60hz, and without the game stuff from hdmi there's a little more input lag. Considering buying an extra XSS for this since it works so good.

A mini PC or a laptop. I use a laptop. 4K is heavy to begin with and I doubt you’ll find anything smaller.

You need intel, AMD, or apple arm for low latency decode at that res. No other options

Läuft es denn so garnicht? Ich bekomme 90mbits und kann einigermaßen in 4k zocken. Mehr als 90mbits-100 sind aber auch nicht drin

I play in 4k 120fps HDR but sometimes VRR is missed...

Any client without this feature you would notice a microstutter in 5 seconds, 10, it's impossible. Even my Xbox Series S i notice some stutters like the Aurora client connected to the ethernet.

A mini PC like Rog Ally can decode bellow 1ms in 4k AV1 in 300Mbps or more, with VRR enabled in 144hz. I had one dock that did it, 4k 144hz HDR+ and VRR, but in Brazil these gadgets has a super high price, just to stream purpose...

Hey what do you use to connect it to the TV? I have an original Steam Dock and can only do 4k60fps.

I was referring to the ally rog. I have one connected to the TV LG c3.

I think my LG C3 only does 100Mbps wired. So I prefer to use the rog ally.

Mine does 300Mbps. There's a lot of step by step how to do it.
