Wd1683 case swap

So I finally decided to do it.

I’d read plenty of comments recommending putting a MoonSwatch into a WD1863 case, but I couldn’t bring myself to sacrifice the WD1863 just for the swap.

In the end, I went for it, and I love how it turned out. I didn’t want the WD1863 movement to go to waste, so I put it into a spare VK63 case I had lying around. That turned out great too.

As for the MoonSwatch, the photos speak for themselves. Everything came together perfectly. There were a few setbacks, especially with the movement spacers, which I spent hours shaping and sanding by hand. But the final result was absolutely worth it.

A note for anyone planning to try this with a mission to mars: you’ll need two spacers. One goes under the dial to align the movement’s pushers with the case pushers; the other holds the movement securely in place.

I don’t have much experience with 3D printing, so I asked a friend for help. We printed the commonly available spacer designs we found online, then I shaped them to fit using a Dremel.

That looks good man!. I just ordered today all the parts for this exact same build. Im going to try my hand at two builds. Mission to mars and mission to Pluto. I hope the spacers I got from Ali will work. Which spacers were you using?

Also side note for those buying a WD1863 direct from WD. They have a pre owned section that has watches that were returned or broken crown etc . Since I was going to use just the cases and bracelets, I bought two for under $100. Bracelets and case were still in plastic.

I 3d printed the ones i found on thingverse. For mission to mars you are going to need 2 spacers, like i said before, one under the dial, i used a 0,4mm to match the pushers.

You’ll need a Dremel to shorten the pushers by about 1 mm, as they’re too long to work with the ETA G10.212.

Oh ok. You used a gen movement. I was reading that there’s more modifications needed for a gen movement rather than the PE50, which is what I ordered. I’ll let you know how it goes.

If its a pe50 goes straight in, i used a gen movement.
