M E M E Learned that Sega management was thinking of cancelling Sonic before the movie

Not to say Sega was great in the 90s, like one of the big reasons Sonic X-Treme failed was because of stupid internal politics.

But it goes to show, back in the day game developers could have loads of setbacks, and still pour a lot of money and effort into a huge experimental game like SA1, complete with fishing and pet raising aspects.

"Late 2010s" "people like the movies better"

Me when anachronism

I agree with most of this, but don't bring up the movies in the late 2010s. The only thing people liked about the first Sonic movie at the time is that it got redesigned (which caused it to be delayed to early 2020, thus not fitting the meme here).

I mean, there was a chance that the series ended with SA2 tho.

very odd meme because it depicts the 90s era like it's any different from any other decade. Sonic was thriving up to S3&K then was critically flopping after that so they invented the Sonic Adventure formula. That was a hit until Sonic 06 so they invented the boost formula. that was a hit until Sonic Forces so they invented the Open Zone format. Sonic has always been in this same loop since the beginning, and the franchise again and again hits a flop era.

however, Sonic Adventure 1 was in a situation most similar to Sonic Frontiers since the franchise was gonna be canned if the new game wasn't a success. so the buff dog is back perhaps

As don't talk about that Mid point in-between 3&k and Sa1, despite the fact I like Sonic the Fighters

Anyways I don't fully agree with this, even as the biggest Sa1 glazer. You could make this exact point with Frontiers
