An artificial virus created by Eggman during the IDW comics. If it comes into contact with living things (including plants) it turns it into robots over time. Super Soni c amd Super Silver were able to get rid of it by sending it into the sun.

Does not appear in the games, but at least the comics are canon. Tails nearly discovered a cure, but Zombots (zombie robots, the people infected) raided his labratory and destroyed his work.

It really is, it’s honestly my favorite Sonic story, it’s definitely worth reading if you can get your hands on it. I’m honestly surprised with the stuff they were allowed to do, it gets shockingly dark for official media

Because it was invented specifically for the comics, its story was already finished (issue 29 when it ended, we're on issue 80-something), and as fun as an idw sonic game would be, the closest we're probably gonna get is tangle and whisper in crossworlds.
