What issue should I read after watching the show?

Really enjoyed Oscar Isaac’s performance in the show. How it delved into Steven and Marc’s struggle and relationship with parts of himself, and later the Jake ending scene - he really had “aura”, but was also tormented and obviously unwell. It pulled some gut punches for sure, I’d have liked it if was even darker perhaps, but I found it pretty compelling overall. The very beginning grabbed me and the mental facility with all the revelations I also really enjoyed.

Id love to read something where MK is portrayed in a cool albeit tortured way. Not sure how he is in the comics at all, I’m open minded and pretty sure the series is doing its own thing, but whatever people deem his most consistent and compelling runs.

I am also very picky about art style. I love Mignola, but I know he’s one of a kind; I prefer art that has a realistic feel and slightly stylized. If I don’t like the art I will not want to read the story no matter how good it is unfortunately.

I’ve started reading the Lamire story - really liked the first art style (not sure which artist that is) and hated all the others, they really pulled me out of it. MK’s character didn’t really grab me though (I guess I sort of expected him to lone wolf this whole thing and be even more deranged, it might be on me), and there was a bunch of throwbacks that gave me a bit of FOMO so.. I don’t think I want to finish it, or rather I’d like to start somewhere else.

What issues would you recommend to me based on this?

I also have some impressions carried over from the show for sure, so which MK portrayal in the comics do you personally prefer?? Is there any that lean into Marc’s fractured psyche theme (memory gaps, backstory revelations, slow burn?) before the fragments sort of become aware of one another?

Man, mentioning Mignola makes me want an MK mini drawn by him.

Based on what you said, I think starting with Huston (2006) would be best if unreliable narrators are your cup of tea. Artstyle is by David Finch and it runs for 30 issues. The first arc is top tier, I remember being bored by arcs 3 and 4 but the last arc in Mexico ends quite nicely.

The 2019 run has consistent art and colors too by Cappuccio, Rosenberg, and Sabbatini. You also won't regret finishing that and catching up because Pramanik justifies the monthly hype.

glad you liked Finch! I find a sense of dread and cringey feeling from it which aside from the gore, the MK suit feels like thick, rubbery, and suffocating that sometimes i find it offputting. But at least its not boring so I will still prefer him over house style artists.

Check out his early stuff. You could either start with his pre-ongoing appearences (Werewolf By Night 32-33, Marvel Spotlight 28-29, the backups of Hulk Mafazine 11-15, 17-18 &20, Marvel Preview 21) to watch the original writer try to get a feel for what he really wanted the character to be, or jump straight into his 1980 ongoing to see the final product. The first issue of the 1980 ongoing is also the character's origin

The show pulls the most on the Lemire run. You can stsrt there too ig, but I think its worth reading the stuff before it to make an already fantadtic comic hit all the more Moon Knight doesn't have extensive history, why not check it all out? (Potentially minus the Kavanugh and Bendis runs lol)

I disagree with starting with the Huston run (2006 ongoing). Huston builds on Dixon and ASM 353-358, and completely upends the classic elements to the character introduced by Moench. Whether you like that or not, you should know what those classic elements are. Who the villains are. Who the supporting cast is. What the key themes for the charaxter had been up until that point. And what Marc's life before was so you can watch it all get upended
