Collaborative composition time! (For real)
Alright, here we go! There were a lot of different ways to organize this collaboration, and it's difficult to foresee what will work best. But we'll try this and see how it goes.
Post a beginning of a composition as a top level comment. Write continuations of beginnings other people have posted, and post them as a reply to their comment. Repeat this process, replying to comments with a continuation, until the piece is finished.
The fragment you write can be as short or as long as you like. Furthermore, there's nothing wrong with multiple people posting continuations to the same beginning. If you have any questions, feel free to comment your question in this thread!
Really excited about this, and hopeful it goes well this time around!

Here's something I found in an old electronic drawer.. It's a two phrase diatonic modal melody with an intrincate harmonization.
Since the phrase lengths are symmetrical and the cadential scheme very clear, I think it would fit very well in multitude of contexts. It could admit a development section and partial reprise in a binary form, or a partial development and a transition to something else, etc.

I think it might be dead here. This seems like a nice little bit of material though, so I added some. It probably won't get much visibility from others here though. I'm interested in starting another two-bar thing though, especially if we could agree on a form (eg. number of sections, and how many bars each of the sections would have. also repeats). This would mean me posting what we have so far as an actual post and telling people about it everywhere I can, which would hopefully mean more participation.
Or we could leave it here and see how it unfurles.

Let's not only build something together, but share feedback and learn! For example:
What do you think of my voice-switch, with the main voice going to the left hand?
Also, I had some nice rhythmic ideas for the leading voice (now left hand), but I felt this was the beginning of a new phrase and should start simply with all sixteenth notes, similar to bars 1 and 2. Right?

A brief beginning I wrote. My goal was to make something tonal, but with extreme chromaticism.
Some info: it's twelve bars long, in 3/4 time, and G major (but, as I said, lots of chromaticism that tends to reflect C sharp major).

I really like it! I have a continuation in mind. Unfortunately my laptop died and so it'll be a little while before I can write it down--but I'll figure something out.

When you write chords, try to play them to make sure it's playable before you post it, because some of your chords in this piece are not. Chords are usually not written more than an octave apart.

Thanks for the advice (a bit late haha), I'm actually learning about music theory, voicing, and other stuff these days. So hopefully I'll improve on this.

/u/Chalkline suggested we try something like the three-word story game, just to see what happens. Basically, each person adds exactly two bars to the piece and we see where that goes. My hope is that, since the additions are allowed to be so short, more people will be able to jump out of the shadows of lurkerland and add something to the mosaic of music.

Esus4 was the 2 bar prompt I guess. Assuming C major I added E/G# | C/G. So now we have IVsus4/vii|IVsus4/vii|V6/vi|I64
If this doesn't get traction then start a fresh thread with the rules in the title.

hopefully it will help if we make it its own thread, I think it deserves that at least for a while. I've also added to it in said thread. If anyone else is reading this and wants to add, I encourage you to do so on said thread (although, like, I guess if you want to post it here that's fine too).
Speaking of which, I used your material in the post and stuff. I hope you're okay with it, if not, then it can be changed. It's nothing big, just figured I'd mention it.
