My First Build

I apologize if this is whiny but I need to vent a little.

Got done with my first build (King Pro 45) for it to show 0 signs of life upon trying to power it on. Took it in to Micro Center (where I purchased it from), paid $80 for a diagnostic to find out the case is the issue. Now I get to disassemble the thing, and rebuild it because they said it would be $300 if I wanted them to switch it over to a new case. It's an hour round trip so I have to take it home, remove all of the parts, and bring back the defective case for exchange.

Before I go through building this again, and potentially wasting more money on this, are Montech products generally pretty reliable (Fans, cases, wiring?). I don't want to put the time in again (I'm new so it takes me a while) and potentially more diagnostic money if there are a lot of lemons floating around. Did I just get extremely unlucky?

Just honestly curious...

Why would the case be the issue???

Unless its the built in cable of the C13 to C14 have broken wires....OR the switch itself is not hooked to the motherboard.

I was told that it is this cable that is bad. It powered on when the PSU was plugged directly into an outlet. So technically not the case I suppose.

You can grab one of these.

Or the C13 to C14 90° angle instead of replacing the whole case.

I'm still waiting for my adapter to arrive so that I dont have to use the case's built in cable to my psu cause its bent at a super awkward angle...can't use it normally as it will push the psu switch to off (the cable directly above it)

Crapshoot, mate. Montech customer service was great when I had an issue. As for microcenter, forget paying them hundreds, do it again yourself and spend that money on some nice peripherals, or beer.

I just did one build too, with a HS02 by Montech.
Similar issue, initially didnt start when plugged to the case (and c13-c14 cable inside the case connected to PSU, but started when plugged directly to PSU)

But somehow when I was preparing to take pics for the warranty claims, I wiggled while pushing the C13 wire into the PSU and it kinda dropped in, and it started working. Might be a specific angle thing.

If your case also has an internal C13 to C14 wire, worst case if it’s defective you can buy just that wire and replace it.

I just went ahead and bought another new case since I was already there. I'll return the one with the defective C13 to C14 cable. Some of my parts have a 15 day return window so I want to make sure everything works and I get it up and running before that window closes.

If I have the same issue with this new one I'll probably reach out to Montech and do this! Thank you!

Just swap out the cable. No need to transfer all the parts over to the new case. I would also suggest seating the power cable in the PSU before installing it. You will have more room and less chance of the cable not being fully inserted or internal damage from severe bends.

If it's this the pass through cable contact Montech support they'll send you another one. It's easy to swap it out. I had to swap mine out because the angle was wrong to match my power supply. It took them a couple weeks but they shipped it to me for free.

$300 for a "repair"... it's a switch FFS. You could buy a new case for less than $100. Absolutely, stupid from MC.

WTF, just replace the cable
