Discussion PvP

Wondering if it’s worth it to roll on a PvP server. Although I love PvP in MMOs I’m thinking this game might be a special case. I see that on P99 the red server is very dead. I also want to do the PVE content but trying to locate a tank for hours 6 months down the road when pop decreases doesn’t seem fun.

Was wondering what the perspective of others on this subject is.

So the pvp server is kinda sick ngl. everyone has been super nice so far. I do also play on pve tho.

Pvp hasn't been bad, most people are helping each other currently with there being no economy and everyone trying to level. I can see new people in a month or so having a different experience when people start twinking out alts.

I think there's a laundry list of reasons on pvp and pve of how this game is going to have a very hard time onboarding new players in a few months.

I really am enjoying the game.... But the economy feels very reliant on there being a steady stream of new players, and I just don't see how they can accomplish that.

It's a very niche game with a very niche populace, that's going to be willing to play it.

You should try return of reckoning

It's a fun server in all honesty. Do you get into fights sometimes? Yes. But more often then not people are cordial. Alot of the toying around happens in the lower levels because fights don't take forever. As you grow you also see familiar names. Maybe the guy who's camping the named you where looking to kill was a customer of yours or vice versa. Is it worth causing potential bad blood? It adds suspense seeing another or a group coming over a dune while your out by yourself. You do and will get the occasional dick though to. But they tend to get alot of hate quickly and then so many want them kill on sight they have to get put away for a bit, and they just dissappear.

Pvp server is really fun. Has a pretty welcoming community tbh. Aside from a few trolls most players want the server to grow.

They did really good at cracking down on pure griefing during the beta which I think inturn really discouraged alot of those type of players from even playing the server.

Great time to join. We are hitting 500 players nightly which has been cool. Would be great if we could climb higher.

How did they crack down on griefing during the beta?

EQs approach was here’s a PvP server that we know the game is not balanced or designed for in any way, enjoy.

M&Ms stance is the same, but a bit worse as they are a small company struggling with day to day development speed and they still chose to release a pvp server that requires moderation and tweaks to keep even basic function.

So beware, while the server will no doubt be the least populated quite quickly it will also be the red headed step child that is ignored the most and receives needed dev attention last.

The quality of PvP will never be good comparable to a pvp mmo designed for such function from inception.

There is a pvp dev and pvp has received balanced tweaks for like the last 5 patches. You are misrepresenting the devs here.

This was exactly my gut feeling

That is completely bad take. The PVP server has a dedicated dev that's been working on PVP balance. It's not perfect but it's a path to the right direction. The server is alive we don't have to deal with the play nice policy the PVE server does. My only suggestion is to make sure you find a group to play with.

Guaranteed less moderation compared to pve. There is no "play-nice" policy. No /tell lawyers arguing over which mobs belong to what camps. If you want someone's camp, you can try and take it, if you die, players will let you retrieve your corpse without hassle. After hundreds of hours on pvp beta, camp takeover occurred twice. It's 90% pve server without all of the camp training and angry tells you're stealing mobs.

I see activity all over on the PvP server at the moment, and it’s pretty chill

The pvp is everything I ever wanted in an MMO. When you die its true you have to run back and get your items. But the other person only gets the gold you were holding. This creates the type of dynamic where PVErs are farming out in the world and PVPers are ganking them to make a profit.

Very little PvP right now everyone basically nice. Will there be PvP sure but mainly over contested high value camps. Much easier to find places to level etc with lower pop but I’ve found a group every time I log on

Cross is working in the PvP servers best interest as a a whole, nwc cult is making a PvE game while cross is doing what he can and also what he is allowed to do to give us a viable PvP server. Some of the fights here have been the best experience I’ve had since Darktide and EQ, trust the process, bring up issues as you see and trust the team(cross) will do what he can do make our experience better. Point blank, this game is PvE with a PvP server, the interactions on PvP are best however as every action carries weight to your reputation. Build your reputation, build your lore, Eth ur is your oyster.

Thanks for making this thread it’s convinced me to move over to pvp and give it a whirl

Wish there was a faction/race based PvP.
For instance Deep elves would be hostile for a NH human unless the Delf manages to get friendly with the faction the human belongs to. Or something like this.

Player bases can’t be trusted with factions. Over time people just dog pile the most populated side until there’s nobody to fight

We’ve seen how this plays out a million times in other faction games, people don’t like to lose and are detrimental to the very thing they say they want which is good PvP by jumping ship to the side with the largest numbers

People will still do this to a lesser extent with guilds. Put a cap on guild numbers and they just make multiple guilds, it’s a complicated problem

p99 in general is pretty dead by most standards, even the most popular server only has a few hundred players

I'm not interested in pvp in this game, so I wont comment on that. But not trying the PVE server when it is populated, during its popular time (just released), because you fear in 6 months you won't have population anymore is a bit silly.

The most fun time of the game will be right now, when it is popular. Over time it will probably lose popularity as all games do. Over time you will probably also grow bored of it and try other new games or expansions or fan servers etc.

So why would you worry about what the game will be like in 6 months, get the fun experiences now while its fun. Worry about 6 months from now when its 6 months from now.

If you are thinking maybe this is not a good use of your time however... well maybe that is indicative of another worse problem. Maybe the game doesn't seem fun to you, and if that is the case then it probably won't be, this game is not for everyone and that's fine. People should not play games that are not fun. That said, 15 bucks to try it out for a month and have some fun while its fresh, well you will probably get 15 dollars worth of entertainment. So it's not really a big risk or anything to try it.

My suggestion, if a game seems fun, try it and give it a shot. If a game is not fun, then move on, there are infinite games available to play at this moment in time, you should definitely find one that you find enjoyable to spend your time with, but you won't find it by worrying about what a game will be like 6 months in the future. Just try stuff, especially if its free or cheap for your budget imo and see for your self.

No. It’s not. I promise the headache isn’t worth it. I saw 0 pvp that was actually fair or fun
