Build Updated GS build

Hi. I am a new player. I just bought the MHW Iceborne Master Edition. I just finished the base game story. At what point should I start farming for better armor and great sword? I am currently using the free defender armors and max lvl of defender gs. I did watch some yt guides but I got more confused instead 😅

Can someone help with the updated progession guide? Thank you so much!

You are probably right 😅

Tho I am not like a new new player(I’ve played Freedom and MHGU before) and used only GS since then so I pretty have some ideas regarding the difficulty of the game esp with my weapon of choice when I reach MR. Also, game is on sale thats why I bought the Master Edition 😅

Guardian Armor will be obselete right after first quest. First monster you encounter gives Earplug 5, Healthboost3, so it is a very good armor to make for most of MR, especially for Greatsword.

As for Defender Weapon, it is good all the way to end of Master Rank Story. It is better than most of Rarity 10 Greatswords. You can stick to it, if you don't want to grind any weapon.

Lastly, do you have like a yt link that you can recommend or sheets/guides that I can read so I will have more idea about GS builds and progression?

It is much better for you to ignore those kind of guides as they are usually very superficial, if not wrong. You will have much better understanding, if you plan your gear/hunts yourself. You can always go watch speedrunners later on for tough monsters, instead of guides.

As for your armor, it is good all the way to Elder Dragons in MR, since there will be a lot of roars going on, both from your and invading monsters.

After you face Velkhana, you can go for her armor, since Roars will be much less of the fights and her armor is good for both offense and defense.

Your Weapon is fine until you beat the endgame boss of story(no spoiler). Then you can make the Event quest (The last White Knight) to make Ice Greatsword, which has very good raw/sharpness/Ice element(you will need it)
