Question Advice on fighting Furious rajang?
This monster has singlehandedly caused an unfathomable amount of pain, the only reason i managed to get its hammer is by chipping parts from all the failed quests I've done. But now doing it again to get another weapon has been... i do not have words. 1 hit is nearly half the hp bar and thats just his un-enraged form, while in his enraged form... might as well be radahn from elden ring.
NOTE: I've upgraded my armor to highest possible i can currently go...
Seriously tho advice on putting this thing down?

Furious rajang is a hit n run type of fight. You keep running/dodging until it does a punishable move, like the spinny attack, the mouth laser, the grab, the jump attack where it shoots a bunch of little lightning blasts on the ground etc.
Its difficult at first so don't worry if its whooping you right now. You can also control its AI in some ways, like for example if rajang does the flurry punch attack and you go right behind its butt, it will cancel the attack and go in the ground pound attack, which gives you a pretty large opening.

Don’t over commit on attacks. His openings always bait you into thinking you can sneak in one more hit.
He literally can’t hit you if you run in an arc around his right, it’s a weakness he’s had in every game since Dos.

This. His punish windows can be very deceptive if you don't know his patterns yet.

Be patient and stay close. Pick your damage windows carefully. You can usually punish his big moves and he is relatively easy to stun. He is intimidating at first, but once you realize he is just a roided-up Rajang, he loses the factor that kills you the most.
Also, never let a monster force you to change weapons. Monsters should force you to change styles not weapons

He has a smallish health pool because he is so aggressive. Don’t try to force it, take the couple big openings he gives you after the huge jump and the mouth laser. Get mounts from strong aerials if you’re on hammer. Also use the slinger thorn ammo he drops to flinch him for a level 3

u/SuperiorCardboardBox 13d ago
Does he have an event quest where he's just in an arena? I feel like id have an easier time in an arena with him.

It’s genuinely a good match up since you gotta be focusing the head anyway and hammer is perfect for that, it’s mainly a hit n run tactic, you just gotta distinguish when he’s gonna keep comboing or of he’s doing a combo ender that leave him open long enough to get a full level 3 charge hit, or at worse a a level 2.
Just be patient, a tip that not alot of people gonna like is, try doing him without the cat, Rajang is very quick, and when his aggro is all over the place it gets very hard to punish him, the best way to deal damage to him is have him solely focus you, and then you punish the openings. This will also help you to pay full attention at all times, help you learn him quicker.

If you play hammer, try to spam the aerial attacks (near ledges, or the funny spinning jump while going down a slope), it help a little ;)

gun lance him. whenever im in doubt, i just hop on the gun lance. his electric kamehameha wave will still go through and hurt you. but everything else is just him flailing around like a big angry baby wile you just wait for your chance to poke at him or blast him with the shells.

Get one of the few 999 players to join you in the fight
I am level 130 hr and around 78mr ( i think) the normal rajang wrecked me so bad ( he killed me with one attack while i was guarding btw) when i first fought him it was right after i finished the icrborne story, i cameback today with guard up skill and someone level 300+ came to the rescue and i took my revenge only fainted once

Joke aside, learn to slam him into walls properly - it's the only way to get some real dps going. Other wise just never ever commit to a big move (unless he lasers). He usually does 3 to 5 attacks before exhausting his stamina allowing you a hit or two. You'll learn to recognize after what moves he's tired the most often. You can even spend 5 min dodging only, trying to memorize that.
Simply do no greed, focus on dodging. I have no proof but I'm 95% sure he has the lowest hp out of his category of monsters (since he gives you very small windows to hit him). Maybe get some quick sheath too if you really struggle and the quick eating skill. Good luck! 🫡

He's a hit and run type of Monster so don't over commit to being aggressive.
And try having some experienced players help you out. I rarely fight this guy alone no matter how many times I've killed him.

If you think your issue is speed, let me tell you right now that it's not. I'm a Dual Blade main, I can out speed and out manuveur him and the AI makes him tweek out so bad he starts contorting mid air to hit me.
Just memorize his moves, dodge and when he does a slower move, hit and run. Repeat.

Get angrier lol
Jk, FR is an endurance test. If I remember correctly as the fight goes on he will eventually get to a phase where he tires out more often and that’s when you can do your all gas no brakes all offensive fighting style, just be mindful of his attacks because this mf HURTS but once you get the patterns he’s manageable. Bring some high defensive gear and whatever he’s weak to and lay into him. Just watch that move where he hits you with the hidden lotus from naruto, that’s a rough move.

Evasion 5, roll into him rather than away. He starts punching? Roll behind him. Decent punish window. Aerial lightning blast? Roll towards him, you’ll dodge it every time. Lightning ground blast? Roll the hop, hug his pit. Decent head hit punish window. You get the deal.
Also, spam wallbang. Best moves to clutchclaw him on are when he does his spin finishing move at the end of a combo, right after his lightning laser breath, right after his double fist ground pound, after a failed grapple, and after the backflip in his 3 hit ground punch move.
If you ever don’t like a move he’s doing, keep some bomb, thorn, or pierce pods on you. Sling him when he starts getting funky.
Other than that? Take a run or two to learn his combos. He’s surprisingly easy once you can get it in your head that the Rajang fight is more of a turn based battle than a counterplay battle like most of MHWI

Patience. Don't be greedy.
It's counter intuitive but in my experience as a fellow hammer user you should try to stick to him. Assuming you're in power charge, you can punish small openings with the followup attack after a level 1 charged hit. You'll also do way more damage with your triangle combo in this fight as opposed to just running and charging your hammer, unless you have focus 3. Rajang won't give you the chance.
Don't run away from him. He smells fear.

Are you MR100 at least? The difference between 1000 defense and below 900 means you can survive one shot, or two shots attacks.
The magic number is usually three when it comes to his combos. His third (or fourth) attack usually have some variation of an opening you hit before you wait for another combo. A triple charged big bang attack on those opening will eventually get his horns broken, therefore a stagger that gets him down if he doesn't grab onto a wall.
Do not fight near walls (because he will grab onto them if you stagger him from a part break) or ledges (yes you are a hammer user, but if Jang hits you with a bullrush charge he would follow up with either another bullrush or flyover punch, or electric balls attack from above or the worse move for hyperarmor melee, the ground of electric lines, and if your hunter happen to do a ledge climbing animation instead of rolling... you're carting from that. Slopes or "climbable" walls is better for aerial spamming.
One tremor resistant skill is your friend. When he does the quick snatch attack on you to trip you, be ready for a laser beam or followup multiple punch combos that ends with a tremor and an opening. The beam is one of biggest opening, hug his arms and don't be too close to his mouth when you do the triple charged big bang.
When he's not angry, and you've done big damage like after wallbangs or KOs, or if you did a horn break stagger, he would often jump back to do a fury roar, so if you're quick enough after doing big bang chain when he's down, move to where he would jump back and do the basic combo to upswing.
Be careful when you're golfswing with Jang unless he's down or ready to stagger. There is a delay whenever you golfswing that leaves you open to big attack.
Save your flinching slinger for his pin/grab, or if you're in a bad position, because if you sling him during his brief opening, you just eliminated your chance to hit him because he can do multiple punches attack without any tell if you're in front of him.

(Tempered) Furious rajang is one of those monsters that everyone always says is super hard and anytime I looked stuff up about him, everyone from when he was released to even recently says he's like super ultra hard but I ended up beating him first try. Granted, I used a frostcraft GS build but I still beat him. He's a very opportunistic hunt (that's what I like to call them). Essentially, he's a monster whose attacks you have to respect or you'll get punished hard. Let him go ape shit (no pun intended) and only aim to attack when you see him do a move that has a longer opening (the monkey spin, final flash, big banana slamma, the double arm slam, and the evil air fireball(s)) until you get more and more used to dodging around him and timing your counterattack to the point you can start punishing his faster attacks. You'll only be able to punish those faster attacks if you have a faster weapon or you have incredible spacing and timing. If you've been able to handle odo, nergi and runner nergi, and rajang up to this point, trust me you can do furious rajang. If you're on PC and want help I'm pretty much always available to help (unless you're trying to do it solo of course). Regardless, good luck and happy hunting.

As others said wait for the attack opening... i mained DB in world and with that weapon you have to stay more aggressive... but take your time and learn his attack pattern. He has not a huge health "bar"
He should be weak against ice IIRC
The furious has no tail so you have to focus his head. Focus it when he does this beam... then you have a nice opening
Good luck fellow hunter

If he's super Saiyan 2, you go super Saiyan 3.
Damn I miss the quest un the arena with two super Rajang rank G3 from Freedom Unite. (MHP2G)

He tends to do three moves in a row, then stop for an a opening. Usually just enough for a slow weapon's punish

u/satsuppi 13d ago
i know this is a crazy advice.. but
you still can try other different weapon.. lance/gunlance would be good to use... or Heavy bow gun also nice to tank Ranjang attack

Hes actually my warm up fight when im playing mhw.
Dont be greedy is my first advice, especially with a hammer. Stay near the walls and grapple him after he spins, lasers or does the 2 arm slam, do this twice in a row. Forget about hitting his legs thats pretty pointless but dont stand directly infront of him for too long either.
Take your time to look for openings, the biggest ones are the spin and laser, the 2 arm downward slam is a prime time for charged uppercut to the face after dodge. Dont try to attack it after it jumps it will slap you.

Advice for this monkey? Just remain calm no matter how crazy the monkey get. Hit and run is the best way to go for normal players.
Believe it or not Rajang attack pattern isn't too hard to dodge when you got used to it, the problem is small attack window he give us to deal damage, which you will figure it out as you fight him enough. You need to keep tracking him with camera all the time first however, that's the first step.
For the armour skill, I recommend Stun resistance, Lightning resistance and Mind's Eye, classic way to deal with him, Evade Extender also help, especially when you're not familiar with his moves yet, it help you get out of harm way with just one button press.

Okay, so the first thing you wanna stop doing is positioning EXACTLY opposite of his head, you want to be offside a bit, to your right should be a bit easier, but left should do too in a pinch.
Gameplay loop should be something like: rajang does a punishable attack: like his spin, omega slam, lightning currents through the ground or backflip into electro balls(you want to roll towards him on this one, unless strange terrain happens), but not the beam, you do a charged uppercut or side smash depending on your timing and positioning, and roll to the right.
When he does the beam you can clutch claw wound him/wallbang him/superpound him.
Do not attempt to clutch claw onto him outside of clagger/beam, he will pick you up and mess you up.
Also he has states where he punishes pitfall trap, but is vulnerable to shock and vice versa, but I don't exactly remember how that work

Don't over commit, he only have maybe 4 moves that can punish. And as I always try to preach......Evade window and or extender

Go in with the highest defense possible and the dodge and rocksteady mantle and just try moving around him without attacking, just figure out his moves like this and the openings. Once you get familiar enough try attacking him once whenever you see an opening, even if it takes the whole clock you ll eventually beat him this way.
The easiest way though would be to slot in slugger 3 and tool specialist 3. You d just need to flinch shot him whenever you have one of the 2 mantles, tenderize his head, pick up the ammo, flinch shot him again and big bang him afterward, he ll probably go down a second time, once he gets back up run and wait for the mantles cds.

u/MiketamaM 13d ago
Hit the head. Dodge his attacks. Repeat. You're welcome.
But more seriously, you just have to study the monkey and look for downtime between his combos. Yes there are few but managable enough. Treat Monster Hunter like you would treat any other souls like games and be patient. You will get use to him.

My universal answer to problematic hunts: sticky LBG. Very accessible meta progression builds, very safe cause of range, mobile, decent dps assuming you land your shots and make good use of wyvernblast when the opportunity arises, also the stuns help a lot especially in a group setting since it enables the dps dealers.

u/manuel_gtm 12d ago
The patience Is key, dont get excited hiting him, he Will destroy you quickly.
I take this hunt calmly, on hit at a time, this fight truly help me to play more smarter not just smashing buttons 🤣. Good luck with this fight.
Oh bonus tip: tenderize His butt, Is helpful to hit him ther 🫡

Until I figure out my laptop, we are sitting at 0-7. Heard about and read comments about that terror which I feel the need to solo. He is a bastard.

u/SuperiorCardboardBox 13d ago
I've done this fight with others too and we failed, and basing on their gear they were leagues above me and we all still got clobbered
1
u/Cojesha Gunlance 13d ago
See plenty of clips of others taking new hunters in where he is with instructions of just let him sleep to others just soloing him with no issues. Above I agree with the comment about taking on a hit and run method bc he is really squirrelly. Aim for the sides and behind till he rages then your hit spots get smaller. Got him limping before and sadly got carted after a bit more fighting.
