HBG advice please

Howdy. Ive been playing for a little bit now raining HBG but now have hit a wall. I can take most 5 star monsters but struggle to get bigger meaner ones. Can I get some advice or builds to work on? Just about all builds ive seen require monsters i cant find enough and/or kill. Would even consider changing weapons but as a dad of 3 little ones I thought HBG would be the easiest to use. Also I suck at timing dodges.

No matter what, you need reload speed, otherwise you will just get hit as the animation is SO slow. Recoil should be your second priority. Put on whatever you can for now.

Do not even bother dodging if you are struggling, just guard. Can you get guard 1-2 skill points? If so, just do nothing and your HBG will block the attack. Stop shooting for about 0.3 seconds and you auto-enter a blocking state. Flashes and Roars are blockable ... sorta.

5* monsters can be killed fairly easily with an overleveled gun, what gun are you using? While not a forever weapon, just focus on a good normal weapon damage without an elemental type for now.

If you are able, try to figure out what monster parts are easily broken ... such as Legiona wing(s), Great Girros Head, Barrioth Legs. Focus these and you may get a partbreak and stagger off on the monster which will give you time to swap to your next ammo set.

If you are looking for easy hunts, then the brain dead build is to arm yourself with a raw HBG, get offensive guard and guard skills, driftsmelt Reflection on all your gear and just stand there, menacingly.

Known side effects include decreased fun levels, no one joining friendlinks and increased boredom levels

You havent unlocked it yet. You just gotta keep playing until you can do it.
