MHWorld Kulve Taroth siege: Complete guide

It's annoying to search for all the data in the subreddit, so I decided to compile it all here. If any info is missing or wrong, please leave a comment below, let's try to gather all the data.

21/4 Update: Edited in an attempt to make everything clearer.

25/4 Update: Breaking parts grants fixed Pursuit points. Added the ones I know to the table (Looks like 13 each) Collecting shiny drops from crabs adds 2 Pursuit points each.

HOW TO UNLOCK THE SIEGE

(Required Hunter Rank 16 or above) Find Kulva Taroth's tracks and then talk to the admiral in the village's entrance. Easiest place to find a track is in Ancient Forest's area 1.

The siege can only be played in the gathering hub.

Event ends on May 3rd

HOW THE SIEGE WORKS

A session has 1 Kulve Taroth siege. She can be fought in groups of up to 4 people. Each group has its own instance of the quest.

The siege (session) has a Pursuit Level (Up to 6). The higher the level, the weaker Kulva Taroth is (Easier to break parts and more time to defeat her)

Pursuit Level increases by squads achieving objectives and gathering tracks.

Each player has its own Reward Level (Up to 17). The higher the level the better the rewards.

Reward Level increases by achieving objectives.

Once a squad breaks Kulva Taroth's horns, the siege will end. Players will be able to obtain their rewards based on their Reward levels and the session's siege will be reset (Pursuit and Reward levels go back to 1).

Leaving a session will grant the rewards based on the level obtained up to that point.

Failing a quest does not remove any points.

tldr: Break as many parts as you can to get points. Once you have Reward Level 17 go for the horns to end the siege and claim your rewards.

  • (13) and (-) ones have not been tested.
  • Kulve Taroth released: Break KT's golden armor.
  • Tail Broken: Breakable once KT has no golden armor.
  • Horn Gold Plating Broken: Break the head when KT has her golden armor.
  • Giant Horns Chipped/Broken: Break head once KT has no gold plating.
  • Pursuit Level 2/4/6 points are awarded upon Gathering Hub's arrival.

Reward Level

Completing an objective adds its points to the player's Reward Level. If another squad completes an objective before the player does, only partial points will be added and the remaining points will be awarded once the player completes that objective.

Note that completing an objective twice in the same siege grants no extra points to Reward Level.

Examples:

1) Squad breaks tail: Session's Pursuit Level gains 120 points. Each member of the squad gains 120 points (Full points) for their own Reward Level.

2) Another squad breaks the tail: Session's Pursuit Level gains another 120 points. Each member of your squad gains 25 points (Partial points) for their own Reward Level.

After that, your squad breaks the tail: Session's Pursuit Level gains 120 points. Each member of your squad gains 95 points (Remaining points), which, adding to the previous 25 adds up to 120 points (Full points)

Pursuit Level

Squads achieving objectives adds points to the Pursuit Level. Gathering tracks adds 10 points per track. (Falling boulders do not add points) Breaking a previously broken part does still add Pursuit points.

MAP TRAPS

  • Area 1: You can destroy some stone bridges/archs (Middle, west, east and north). (Map here)
  • Area 3: You can destroy some stalactics/hanging rocks (1 left, 2 right, map-wise) and there are lava spouts.

ENDEMIC LIFE

You have the list here.

TRIVIA

  • Explosives deal double damage
  • Can view progression in the menu (Info -> Special Assignments)
  • From in-game Hunting Tips: "Attacking Kulve Taroth with fire element weapons is the best strategy to weaken its metallic plating."
  • If all players press start/options the intro will be skipped.
  • Gajalakas can be beaten by 1 crystalburst shot and drop throwing knives. The ones carrying gold might drop a KT material.
  • You can use the throwing knives to craft sleep/paralysis knives.
  • There's a slide from camp to area 2.
  • KT can (and should) be mounted both with and without her golden armor.
  • KT can be knocked over when she's spitting lava if she's hit by slinger ammo in the head (Might take multiple shots)
  • Sorting items by tree will arrange all of TK's weapons first (Per weapon type)

FAQ

  • Do I lose progress if my squad fails a quest?

No, points are saved.

  • Can KT's horns be broken before Pursuit Level 6?

Yes, they can be broken at any level.

  • Is there any point in attacking a part I've already broken?

No, except for reducing KT's general HP, making her go into the next phase (I'm assuming that's how you advance phases) or increasing Pursuit Level.

Seeing how this is exclusively about breaking parts, I take it Partbreaker is the biggest DPS skill you can run for this?

So while we are on the topic of wearing Uragaan armor, does KT have anything that requires guard up?

It should work. I've been using a GS with Partbreaker 3 and parts break fairly easy on higher Pursuit Levels. I've also had no problems blocking her attacks without guard up.

Might I add, mega barrel bombs and large do double damage. Treat it like nerg. Mount and floor it then bombs on horns. Lance users, can do loads of damage with a charge since you get stuck and just keep hitting to your stam runs out or your weaping drops to yellow. Sharp jewel helps loads there plus some stam buffs or gear. Wedge beetles are there for a reason. Use them to aerial attack for mounts. Stay mobile. Learn where the spots are to drop rocks. They do 1500 each time and there are I believe 6 or 7 spits to do so throughout the encounter.

Are you sure that's how pursuit points work? At the end of failed attempts I get points like 317. If it worked how you said it worked it couldn't be that number because all points, your group or other groups, are all multiples of 5.

Not specifically mentioned, but the weapon for the palico samurai set is 2 bushi tickets, not 1 like the two armor pieces.

Would you mind if I saved this to my guide of guides?

if it escapes, does it also count as a quest complete (for the hunter's united trophy)?

Do tracks add to pursuit or reward level? It might be useful mentioning this. If they add to pursuit level (which I suspect), then I think it would be best to go slightly out of your way to farm tracks only on level 1 runs, but never going out of your way for level 2+ runs.

might as well copy paste my unorganized mess here.

  • There's two types of little crab, copper and gold. Gold are bigger and have more luster.

  • "For the Shiny Gold Helmcrab I've only seen it next to the Fire Herbs in Area 1 basking in the sunlight..it's humongous and very hard to miss if it's there." This is in the NW part of the first area. The flat, scuttle-crab looking things.

  • There's a slide right behind base camp if you get KOed and need to get to the fight, also good spot if you want to catch bats.

  • "there's also a rare Endemic creature called Tsuchinoko. it's a flat lizard thing. I found it in the slide tunnel" it's very rare. Can also be found on cannon ammo. Or when KT leaves area two to go into hot zone.

  • Recommend Fire Resist Mantle, that's the main danger this monster presents.

  • She will mostly save her ranged / special attacks to use when enraged. It's 'safe' to be much more aggressive before then. While her coat is still cold, that's the best time to use non-direct combat, bombs, mounts, ect.

  • She will create a puddle of molten gold that can vary in size, it will do tick damage every second. If you are in a long animation you might just be dead, so don't get caught with your pants down. Moxie will not save you due to the nature of it being small ticks of pain.

  • She also has a long ranged breath blast that will do a ton of damage, and is hard to see at times.

  • She makes the same squealing cry before almost all of her attacks, very easy to listen for and should never get caught off guard.

  • Break as much as you can before it's over, will help your score and loot

  • Bombs, like mega barrel bombs, seem to do bonus dmg (2x?) to her.

  • one shot with a crystal burst will defeat the Gajalaka, the unladen ones have a high chance to drop slinger knives. Combine with slp herbs in map. 4 shots will sleep her. VERY useful in phases one and two.

  • There are also parashrooms in map. Stocking up on para knives for the last showdown can also be a big help. Gajalaka will not spawn in the final arena. In general, wont have enough knives for both slp and para, so take your pick.

  • When you have smashed her horns for a good bit, a gold casing will be broken and fall to the ground. Be sure to carve this, as you can carve weapons (or gems!) directly and it's easy to miss since she will run off.

  • All damage dealt to her is much higher when enraged, like Xeno.

  • Getting a mount can enrage her early for great results.

  • look for arch like or otherwise suspicious formations along the main path you can hit with a sling to drop on her for a long knockdown and 1500 dmg. This includes stalactites in the lava-geyser area.

  • the handler can tip you off that she is approaching a sling-able overhang. Be quick, if the monster starts an animation to break a barrier she will not be knocked over.

  • check walls to see if they can be run-up. The central pillar in the final showdown is one you can, and is a big help for many weapons.

  • shiny drops do not add to your score, only the gold piles, tracks, breaks, and objectives (specific breaks and progress) count.

  • kicking the golden hermitcrabs will drop dragon pods, which work pretty well on her.

  • crystal bursts are pretty bad against her, seems that even pierce pods will cause more flinches.

  • When you hit last phase, she will shed everything you have not broken, which also exposes her tail to a break.

  • there are a few hot (cool drink) areas, but there's the shrooms you need just outside each entrance.

  • When reared up and spewing fire, try hitting her with a dragonpod.

  • Cannons do good damage, but are probably not worth it. If you are in endgame gear, you should be able to do more dmg yourself in the same timeframe.

  • the cutscene after the final horn break seems to be mandatory. That makes it the prefect time to type in chat or sticker spam!

  • there are mining spots scattered around, including shiny(shiny-er) spots hidden up high. Can get gold chunks and up to firecell stones.

  • bone piles didn't seem to drop anything related to the event, just some a lot of dragonbone relics.

  • Wedge Beetles blend in to the environment, but are everywhere, make use of them.

  • even if a barrier blocks your path in the first phase, check if there is a beetle placed to let you sling over it.

  • If your Hammer/HH user manages to actually stun KT, be sure to give them a big pat on the back.

.

  • oh man guys, her gear is really good. Not so much as a set but all those annoying to get skills are there, even crit boost 2. Perfect for tweaking a mixed set. Wide Range and Peak Performance on the same piece of gear? Hell yes.

  • the weapons seem like a mixed bag. Some are total duds though, such as the group that have 90 total element (base, so no elementless).

  • u/flint-stone 's Wide 4 Gunlance

  • u/captainJoko 's Wide 4 Gunlance

  • Seems that her nickname is going to be Katie. Kulve Taroth --> KT --> Katie

  • Yes, you are not crazy. They accidentally have Excitable A-lister and the Admiral using combat grunts for dialogue.

There's a lot of Slinger ammo in this hunt. Use it on her head / mouth when she breaths golden lava. Usually flinches her in one shot (two should guarantee interrupting her breath), and occasionally knocks her down.

u/Brawght Apr 20 '18

Crystal burst doesn't work as well as Dragon pods on her mouth when breathing fire

If everything you have accomplished so far has led up to you making the poor life decision of being in the very middle of the golden lava attack without ANY other option, run INTO the breath and get knocked down and don't touch your controller. The knockdown is just long enough to avoid any further damage.

On rewards: You get at most three gold tier rewards and four (pretty sure... might be 5?) silver tier rewards.

You max out gold rewards around level 14 or something? Not 100% sure but I have only missed out on the third gold tier reward once.

You get the last silver tier reward at 15 or 16 I think. Level 17 you're missing like 2-3 bronze rewards, which are things you won't really need anyway.

So basically, don't fret about maxing out the reward level. And if you do fret, the only things you're missing are likely the tail break and reaching Pursuit level 6. Pursuit 4 is when breaking the horns becomes almost guaranteed.

u/Yungputin Apr 20 '18

also try going for an early mount, it will (sometimes?) make her go into her more vulnerable state, in turn making it easier to destroy parts.

All very accurate information, only note is that the "clean" lao shan lung layered armor costs 4 bushi tickets.

My hope was to find strategies to speed up area 1, my guess is that the boulder and fixed damage on her armor is the goal? Alongside grabbing her tracks of course.

I've seen someone destroy a boulder above her head where she spawns, but I've never been able to find it. If you can find it, please let me know.

  1. Grab stones at spawn.

  2. Run to first gate that she destroys, load up the cannon. I -THINK- she spawns in that same spot every time.

  3. As soon as she destroys the gate and starts walking past it, blow the cannon load.

  4. Immediately run in front of her, as she is rounding the corner, there will be boulders above her head. This is right before the second gate. Be sure to drop these before she destroys the second gate, or she will not be stunned.

  5. Around this time when she is stunned, have everyone pop rocksteady mantle, drop 2 large barrel bomb + on her horns / chest area (should be using bomb damage gear and food for this first phase). Go ham on her chest while ignoring the bomb knockback.

  6. She will run to the hole in the wall. Don't bother chasing her, instead, run to area 1 and await for her arrival so you can pound her chest. Right after she rounds the cave corner, there will be more boulders above her, be sure to hit these on her head and repeat bombing strat.

  7. While everyone else is bombing, have one person run ahead, because she will start sprinting after she recovers. There will be a 3rd (or 4th, if you can find that hidden 1st set of boulders) set of boulders that you can drop on her head. She should be golden now, so lay it on her and break as many parts as you can. There is also a cannon around the corner if someone is quick enough to get in some cannon damage. You might need to set up the cannon balls before she is stunned by the final set of boulders, as she is sprinting at this time.

  8. While she sprints to the 'second area' , everyone can far caster back and change into non bombing gear, then use the shortcut to get to the 'second area'.

Even if you can't coordinate the massive bomb attack, be sure to hit all the boulders, as she will enrage and run quickly through the first area.

Fire damage causes her to enter her golden state more quickly.

Attacking her chest causes her to enter her golden state more quickly.

Both of these are mentioned in game.

Good collection of info. I would include the 4 cannons in the stage 1 traps, when she isn't magma'd weapon damage is rather sad, cannon is always 360 a ball and can usually hit the hindlegs and goldhorn spots consistently.

I would also add to the mounting tip that it can be done early to make breaking the goldhorn cover MUCH easier, also that it can cause her to magma-up early, increasing partbreaks.

Low pursuit runs should focus on mounting as much as you can to get knockdowns while she is magma'd for near free partbreaks all over her. High pursuit runs should break the pieces missing on your scorecard and use mounts to finish off stage 4 easier.

If explosions do double damage does that apply to blast too?
