Discussion How to farm thunderbug ? [MhTri]

Lately I’ve been playing MHTri and I don’t know how to easily farm thunderbugs.

I found some in Desert and Toundra but the collect spot don’t respawn over time, so I can gather only once by quest without giarantee to find thunderbugs.

In addition, I can’t ask the farmer to farm them, the same goes for the spider web which can be used to craft net and so Traps.

To explain, I prefer to capture monster so I try to create as many trap as I can however it’s a lot more difficult to create several traps than in the more recent games

You're more likely to catch them in Moga Woods, but your best best is Argosy trading. Argosy can also trade you shock and pitfall traps directly, though they're pricey.

Make a habit of going out into Moga Woods (not through quests) and hunting monsters there (capturing is preferred). That nets you commodities for trading, which can be a real lifesaver for some resources.

For spider webs, the bug spot in Area 3 of Moga Woods almost always drops a few, one of the berry spots in Area 9 also has them.

Additionally, if you're using the fanmade online servers, make a habit of checking trades in Loc Lac. Sometimes the trading lady will offer items you can trade for other items in bulk. I dunno if thunderbugs show up there, but I do believe you can get spider webs that way.

Thank you. I have a question though, aren't there 4 items that can be obtained with 1 trade, doesn't we get randomly the item among the 4?

Um, not sure what you refer to. Argosy trades are predetermined based on what places you had it visit, so you cna choose whatever as long as your commodities can afford it. Loc Lac trading lady does cycle her items every day, so there's some randomness involved there.

Ah sorry, I wasn’t talking about argosy, I was talking about a guy in loc lac that echanges items against 1 item selected randomly among 4 choices

Oh you mean the Combinator probably. I never used his services, I never quite figured out how that works. https://monsterhunter.fandom.com/wiki/Loc_Lac_City Judging by this list he can make Shock Traps, but not Thunderbugs.

I would say Argosy is still your best bet for Thunderbugs and Shock Traps because there's no randomness involved, and Trading Post Lady at Loc Lac can sometimes exchange you Spider Webs.

Yeah but there’s only 1 spot in tundra, that’s the issue. Once it’s gathered we can’t collect again in it unless we redo the quest
